Benedict (Charles Dance) shoots Jack (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and then Danny (Austin O'Brien) distracts Benedict long enough for Jack to kill him.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Arnold Schwarzenegger appears as a pumped-up Shakespearian hero while an announcer bellows, "Something is rotten in Denmark -- and Hamlet is taking out the trash!" This gag sets the stage for the post-modernist action epic The Last Action Hero. The film concerns Danny Madigan (Austin O'Brien), a lonely eleven-year-old boy who escapes from his bleak New York City reality by glorying in the action adventure movies of his favorite film character, Jack Slater (Arnold Schwarzenegger). Danny's friend is an elderly movie projectionist, Nick (Robert Prosky), who lets Danny into the shabby Times Square movie theater where he works so Danny can see Slater's new movie. He hands Danny a magic ticket given to him years ago by Houdini, and when Nick rips the ticket and gives Danny the stub, Danny finds himself catapulted from the theater into the back seat of Slater's speeding sports car in "Jack Slater IV." Danny becomes Slater's helper as Jack battles a trio of nefarious bad guys --Benedict (Charles Dance), Vivaldi (Anthony Quinn) and The Ripper (Tom Noonan). But things get out of hand when Benedict steals Danny's magic ticket stub and transports himself into Danny's reality. Benedict and The Ripper proceed to wreak havoc along Broadway, forcing Slater to cross into reality to get the villains and, in the process, learn about blood and pain.

That's what brought me to this clip... that empty chamber line I've always loved since i first saw this classic when i was 8 back in 94 but much like the rest of the movie I've only grown to love it more as I've gotten older.. it's that moment where u see Benedict and Jack was starting to fully grasp how the real world works with Jack quoting Danny's line about movie mistakes and Benedict showing he no longer has unlimited ammo..such an amazing movie that deserves far more appreciation

Question: Benedict brought back The Ripper to delete Swartzenegger. "No Swartzenegger, No Slater!" The Ripper failed because Slater intervened. It's unknown whether or not Benedict is deleted in Slater IV. It is also not known the fate of the other half of the ticket. Which stands to reason: What if Charles Dance comes back in Slater V as Benedict? What if someone finds the ticket and comes out of the movies to finish what the previous Benedict didn't finish?

T1000 is an amazing movie monster, but this guy is absolutely an incredible villain. There's no question that he's got the brains to match Slater's brawn - look how quickly he learns and exploits the differences between the movie and real worlds, including their assumption that he made a movie mistake. Really man and that's not an overstatement.that line and so much of this classic underappreciated film is some of greatest cinema ever..i was only 8 when i first saw this movie but that line resonated with me even then and has only gotten stronger as I've gotten older.. just imagine being Benedict coming from a world where the bad guys never win and then coming to the real world and realizing that not only Can the Bad Guys Win..many times They Do Win..this movie deserves so much more appreciation

Lee Ermey in an interview from 2006.

Seriously, Arnold went up against the Terminators (T-1000, T-X, T-3000 and Rev-9), Thulsa Doom, the Predator, Arius and Bennett, Webster and the Klane brothers, Damon Killian and the Stalkers, Vilos Cohaagen and Richter, Cullen Crisp, Noah Banes, Salim Abu Aziz, Robert DeGuerin, Myron Larabee, Michael Drucker, Jean Vilain, Warden Hobbes and even Satan himself. But NONE of them could compare with Benedict. A villain who knew the laws inside and outside the movie realm, even recruiting others like the Ripper, was definitely the most dangerous of them all.

Antonio De Simone the eye shot here always confused me. Was it another bomb and did Jack use Benedict's gun to 'kill' him? This movie was a lot for me in theaters and family members had a lot of fun watching it with me- when I was willing to stay quiet) I think the cast and crew was onto something clever with this film, I think it only flopped because Jurassic Park was released about the same time. Plus, audiences may not have been prepared for many injokes, esp 'Arnold ' mocking himself. It looked like Charles Dance had a lot of fun playing Benedict though, and not just in this scene.

You can see it glow red right before it explodes. He even hints about it being a bomb when he says that he has "another explosive surprise" awaiting for the cops if he couldn't manage to avoid them.

This movie needs a sequel. I’ve always had an idea that the slater franchise would jump the shark with more entries and eventually going straight to dvd along with a failed remake with another actor, leaving Danny disinterested and moving on to have a family. Finds the ticket on eBay and buys it, sits down to watch one of the worst entries that went to dvd and gets transported to that world where an aging Jack Slater is literally on auto pilot phoning every line in to contrast the quality of the film along with terrible special effects . They movie hop to the gritty broken action hero films of modern day and that’s all I got

Sad thing is the only one that'd be on board is Freddy and Hitler. While Dracula has no qualms reeking havoc, he still needs the soil of his birthplace to keep him strong. King Kong would be pissed because the girl he had a crush on would have to be held hostage to get him on board. Hannibal would like his sophistication, but he wouldn't want to play second banana to a guy he's smarter than. Same with Rosemary's Baby. Freddy would relish at the chance of killing kids in the real world, just as effectively as he does in their dreams. Hitler would relish recreating his reich in a world that thought he was dead.

I kind of think they'd all just be human essentially considering Jack lost his main character/plot armor outside of his own movie world. King Kong though would still be a colossal ape and quite a dangerous creature in the "real world".
