Now this fucking piece of music right here.... Did you know it was originally meant to be much more epic ? And by epic I mean louder and chaotic. But here, the way the sound is distributed makes from a really better track. I see it like this, the violin represents the conflict between Zuko and Azula, and the beats are their hearts/minds/souls. The higher pitched one is Azula's which goes for the attack and the lower one is Zuko's which is protecting Katara, because if you notice after 1:13, when Zuko is hit, that lower-pitch beat is no longer there. Damn, I've put too much thought into this. Luckily I'm on holiday, so it's time for a rewatch.

@joTheBonas10 жыл бұрын
kinda odd to respond to 8 month old comment but i will do it anyways :D something terribile happend, a women broke, azula got insane. She lost controlled and she broke under the weight of herself. That once so controlled and intelligent women, that strong women broke and thats a tragedy, yes she was "evil" kinda, but her intelligence and strenght must be respected. I also like to see it not so black and white, yes she was evil but why, seems like because her mother left, she never has been loved, but mostly it seemed like she doesnt cared about it, or did she? maybe she did, maybe not, even the comcis dont deliver a clear answer.
@lordofthecuttingmoon7 жыл бұрын
I do have to agree with @Zombyyy !!! on this. She wasn't through and through evil, not like her dad was. She just wasn't able to receive and understand the love others had and gave so freely. Her own mother was unable to completely, truly love her and raise her right, even going so far [in Azula's mind] as loving Zuko "more" than her and just up and leaving them. Ozai never seemed to truly care either. He only wanted her to be his "perfect" firebending daughter, the one who was "worthy" to succeed him instead of Zuko. She was judged, critiqued every second of the day. She had to present the ideal image and, coupled with the lack of affection from her own family, she was left in a position where she had to be a "perfect", intelligent, always in control young woman. Which meant a degree of sociopathy, to put it mildly. But as we hear from others, she always was a bit scary. All of that, wrapped up into one person like it was, the pressures and betrayals of her choices, the "friends" she caused to turn away from her, her own father getting mad at her for her failures while demanding perfection, led to Azula having been warped and eventually breaking. I won't say that there wasn't already something in her that tended toward madness as it was implied in the show that there was but with a homelife like hers, no ******ing wonder.
@imbibesyourlunae7 жыл бұрын
Zombyyy !!! I agree with you completely, except that Azula was hardly a woman... She was only 14, which adds a whole other layer of emotion to her tragic downfall.

+Lukas Rivers But it's the showdown that was always meant to be! Still I agree and disagree with ya. I got the sad and terrible aspect, but not so much something that was never meant to happen. I got more that it was sad and terrible because it had to happen, there is no other path, this is something that has been building and has to be done.
@DaBroski1006 жыл бұрын
I love the strings at 3:25. It conveys Azula's sanity slipping away in a way that's just so perfectly terrifying. To me, Azula going crazy parallels exactly what's happening to the Fire Nation as a whole. Sozin started the war with good, albeit warped, intentions, but in the end, Ozai's final solution was just pure madness. In this way, I think the whole story is a warning of how pursuing altruism through war and violence will only lead to destruction, and the good intentions you started with will end up being forgotten and corrupted.
@og.K73 жыл бұрын
sozin started the war by committing genocide to the air nomads, tf you mean good intentions
@DaBroski1003 жыл бұрын
K7 Lol fair point. Well I was referring to the flashbacks with Roku when he talks about wanting to “share” the Fire Nation’s greatness with the rest of the world. He started the war by first expanding into Earth Kingdom territory, then attacked the air nomads after Roku died to remove the threat of the Avatar. So that’s kind of my point, he starts off with the sincere belief he’s making the world better, but becomes so obsessed with it he ends up committing genocide.

This song feels the way Azula did during her descent into madness. It's calm at first then there's a building tension that gets blown out like a candle. To me this represents her psychopathic tendencies and incredible control. Then it gets loving in a very sad way before being immediately hit with a tinge of white rage. Like losing her mother. After that the song plays a more demented tune. She's a broken girl. That shrieking end is just the realization of that. That she was able to keep it together as long as she did is a testment to her incredible strength as a person.

She was never concerned about her father's love. It was the betrayal of her "friends", realizing that she no longer had control over them that pushed her over the edge...
@veggies_and_veggies50496 жыл бұрын
Azula was affirmed by her father for her talents in contrast to how Zuko was treated poorly for his lack of utility to Ozai. She quickly became the perfect instrument of warfare in hopes that her father would continually love her, namely since she was convinced her mother never loved her. Her whole entire complex is that relationships based in trust and friendship are faulty and that fear and respect are proper and reliable. Her fall into insanity starts when she realizes that even she, the child of near perfection (referencing the scene where she shoots lightning and has one hair out of place) is actually quite incapable of preparing herself for her coronation without the help of others. However, since the only relationship she can rely on is now her father she banishes all others. In the mirror she sees her mother and this quest for genuine unconditional love haunts her. Her defeat at the last Agni Kai is her lowest moment in which frustrated and saddened she is unable to act and will certainly be shamed by her father.
@veggies_and_veggies50496 жыл бұрын
Duck Soup I don’t deny that the Tai Lee and Mai incident was the trigger for her trauma and insanity, but their is a huge subtle characterization to Azula and her parents. If you remember at Ember Island, the place that smoothes out your character imbalances, she replies somewhat jokingly, “My own mother thought I was a monster... she was RIGHT of course but it still hurt.” Clearly Azula has a trust issue stemming from the fickle home environment she was raised in. And to use the song in conjunction with the fights visuals and along with all the narrative and thematic backing. Azula and Zuko are parallel to one another. Zuko obviously has his complex with seeking his father’s love that was “taken” from him, rather than the “honor” which he believed to be a prerequisite for. I don’t think its far fetched to infer that similar conditions apply to Azula who was aptly named by her father to appeal to his own father Azulon to correct the “failure” that was prince Zuko. Azula can’t fail, she shouldn’t fail. She is the product of heavily militarization, and her existence is relegated to her performance. The motivation for her perfection is unconditional love in the same vein that Zuko is searching for the avatar to reclaim his right to it.

Its not the typical avatar fight music but so intense and emotional especially when you think that all what zuko and azula have done in their life ends in this dramatic (last) fight between a brother and a sister

the combination of the taiko drums and the violins always gives me the chills. those taiko drums just make everything sound so epic! and btw i found out that azula ended up in a fire nation funny farm. thank god. oh and i saw a picture, she's in a streight jacket! she scares me sometimes she's so evil! grrr!

I'm serious, I will watch Avatar every year for the rest of my life. When this fight happens, I AM READY TO BECOME KATARA! I feel like this is one of if not the best song in one of the best series to ever come out. Last Agni Kai is very emotional and the fight scenes are cinematically amazing. When Zuko and Azula are fighting, I loved how the creators of the show blocked out the sound of the fight and numb it with the music. I also get feels when Zuko takes in the lightning and Katara has to fight Azula. When Azula started crying, that's when I knew what was going to happen. Avatar The Last Airbender is by far my most favorite, would recommend T.V. show and the series, in general, wants you to learn from it. There are many story arcs, like Zuko's Redemption and The Cycle of War through Katara and Aang, that can really let you see different views. Live long and prosper, ATLA! You deserved it for bringing out the most beloved characters in cinematic history.
