Something to consider for next year - If you lay a tarp under the ground cherry plants before they drop fruit, it makes collection very easy. They will keep in their husks in cool storage for months. And if you have leftovers you don’t get to, they’ll just dry right in their husks and turn into ground cherry raisins!

My grandmother cooked on a wood stove and nothing else. She passed in the early 90's and I still miss sitting in the kitchen with her. She always had a pot of coffee and a pot of beans on the stove. Still sits in the kitchen but only gets used in the winter time. I feel like my dogs never not smell like skunk lol. Hey I have a Jack also lol

Hot tip for the kale. Take enough to load your dehydrator twice and string up the 2nd load in bunches near it. It'll start drying out in the room air and as soon as the first load is done you can stick the 2nd load straight in.

For the ground cherries: you’re right that they likely will NOT be a problem for you in terms of being *invasive*. Here in Maine, in my zone 5-5b garden, the self-seeded ones that do pop up very rarely have enough time to fruit. The ones that make it only ever grow to about 5” tall and wide and end the season with maybe 7 viable fruits. I would be shocked to learn that they were able to fruit in your much shorter season. Also, I just love your videos so much and you’re inspiring me to start making videos here in Maine of my (much smaller) little homestead.

Thanks for not making us wait to see the stove, it's beautiful and so is that root cellar. Here in Texas we can't even have a basement because of the clay soil, so I've been researching to see if there's a way to do a root cellar. No luck so far but I'll keep looking. It was a lovely day to go with you to harvest. Thanks Chelsea!

Concerning the root cellar being warm in the beginning of fall, it may be because your floor/walls are dirt or uninsulated dirt...especially at the back. What happens is the dirt berm that covers your cellar will absorb and store the summer heat, which can travel up to 20 feet in the 6 months of warming, then when it starts getting colder the heat is pulled from the berm back into the cellar.

Lol "smelley dogs? I have 2 miniiature Doxies... although they're not livestock Guardian dogs, they DO keep the moles and other critters out of my small veggie garden! I live in a condo setting with a fairly decent sized outside area for a condo and am able to grow a lot of food in the limited space I have. I developed a mole issue this summer and one of my doxies has taken it to her mission to eliminate moles and actually all creatures she sees out of my veggie garden lol She killed 3 moles this summer but the only problem is, she barks at anything now that moves in there because I praised her so much for eliminating my moles lol. She now bards at everything that moves. Not actuallly surprising, because Dachshunds were bred to flush badgers out of their holes... The minis were supposedly bred for smaller critters such as moles, voles, etc. Mine are afraid of NOTHING. They'll go after anything lol.Once they dig them out and catch them in their mouths, they shake them and I guess it breaks their necks and viola...eliminated!

Love, love the root cellar and the wood stove you’ll be as cosy as anything. Minus degrees make me shiver at the thought. We wingers here in Australia are complaining when it’s 15 degrees.your cabbages we’re so successful. You really are a first class farmer girl. Have fun and I know about having to cook homemade meals and not having take always when you have many ravenous mouths to feed. The family relies on mums creative meals using veggies and meat. Congratulations on your wood cook stove! We've been cooking and heating with our Baker's Choice wood cook stove for over 22 yrs and we live in MT in a 1910 two story farmhouse. We still have swiss chard and kale in the garden, we also dehydrate it, some gets ground into a powder along with beet green, radish greens, lettuces, nettles, strawberry and raspberry leaves, dandelion leaves and is used in soups, casseroles, smoothies for the nutrients. We store in our root cellar too, we love red rock cabbage, late dutch and savoy also for storage. We enjoy your vlogs, thank you for sharing.
