I LOVE this! I have zero children yet I have 3 freezers and 2 fridges plus I garden, can, and preserve lots of food for harsh winters here in Wisconsin. Then I can pay it forward and donate to friends, neighbors, coworkers that need the food or just a morale booster. Thanks Chelsea!

Hi Chelsea, the upright freezers in the UK and Netherlands have either a flap door or drawers which prevents too much cold air escaping. It does take away a little bit of space away, but it is also easier to fill. I had never seen a freezer with just shelves. Eveline in Scotland

Always glad to see you in action. I’ve thought about adding freezers as I bought a calf that a friend is raising with his steers. Debate in my own mind-would a merchandising style commercial upright with windows get the job done. My extended family could access it then. Or even a glass top commercial chest freezer with compartments for each family. Any comments knowing we are in a hot summer climate?

You guys have some serious freezer space. Gonna have to let us know how that cantaloupe turns out. I bought my freezer in 1981 used so it's over 40yrs old. I'm going to get another one just for meat. My dad and I hunt together so one elk and two deer fill all the freezer space we have.

Great video Chelsea. Questions...what is the issue with your fam not liking fresh butter? Is there that much of a difference from store bought? Store bought is all I've ever had, so not sure of the difference. I have gotten some Amish butter and it was wonderful..so much better than from the store. Just curious.

Instead of Ziploc bags have you ever thought of using a Food Saver machine, I had one and I loved it you can keep food twice as long because it takes all the air out and you don’t get any ice crystals on anything you should invest in one of those since you’ve been freezing so much I bet you the maker of the machine will sponsor you and probably give you one for free check it out

Hey Chelsea. I am curious what it is you don't like about the home made butter for eating. I find the home made butter better unless it is not rinsed enough...then I can't eat it. Any amount of buttermilk left behind just destroys it for me. You have been busy! Looks great! Take care.

I know this will probably seem a silly question but are your freezer ok to be outside. As here in the UK we have to buy freezer which can be used in outside sheds/garages, that are ok to be used in unheated spaces and not the one you would buy to use inside heated spaces.
@LittleMountainRanch
@LittleMountainRanch 3 жыл бұрын
Not a silly question at all. You’re right, in general you want to make sure it’s the right kind of freezer for where you’re putting it. We’re kind of rule breakers over here and don’t worry to much about that.😉

Great video! Do you have issues with landslides in your upright freezer or freezer on top? We solved this issue with some rectangular dollar tree bins, plastic file crate(common at back to school time). They work great for containing and organizing the baggies of frozen veg and fruits etc. Just a suggestion! Keep the fantastic videos coming, looking forward to seeing the cat warming box video

Hey there, I really like your videos but I always wonder how do you manage all of this work? I myself have a huge garden and some chickens and rabbits and I can hardly keep up with the work in the summertime. Imagining having 11 kids at home, all the housework, animals, garden, homeschooling ... I would really like to know how you manage all of this. Maybe it`s a video idea for you. Thank you so much for your inspirations and sending you nice greetings from Germany.

Many hands make light work really is true. 7 of my children do one chore each in the morning, plus me, so it really doesn’t take long to do everything farm related in an hour or less. When we do any big canning days or harvesting we all go at it, which cuts down how much time it takes hugely. I also make an effort to rest for an hour every afternoon so I don’t burn out. It’s a balancing act, for sure. Thank you for being here.🙂

I’ve thought about this a lot and I think maybe I’ll do a video and address it. The short answer is, no, I’m not concerned. Here’s the deal, if the SHTF and people are going to think about hiking all the way out here to steal my food, it’s likely already gone. Simple as that. I think it’s more important to inspire people to put up food and the best way to do that is to show what I’m doing. Maybe I’ll regret it one day, but for now I’m fine with it. Thanks for your caring and thoughtful comment.
