You got to adjust the shocks springs and so on to the track your running on its difficult though especially if you don't have tech guys that know what to do. All of you on the crew are doing the best you guys can do without having big money like the top competitors do. I heard Davenport bring that up that his car was crap but they worked at it with the shocks and so on. You guys I know and see do a lot of Tire and gears maybe try and figure out the shocks though keep digging though you guys have come so far since I started watching y'all. That's awesome
@chbal99352 жыл бұрын
Seems like the shock adjustments they like keeping off camera. Everytime I’ve seen them make shock adjustments they’ve kept it a secret(by mentioning they made shock adjustments but not showing what they did) in there defense it’s easy to be here in the comments and be a arm chair quarterback. I love the fact they are keeping it in the family. seems as if Joseph is noting changes they make in a note book and noting track conditions and what they did to make the car better so they learn from the data. I think they should (temporary) mount a go pro under the car so they can see what the suspension is doing depending on the adjustments they make. Also seeing the suspension compressing and sagging will give a better idea as to what the car is doing. Just a idea though. Not sure if that’s illegal to do at a race. May only be okay for a test session
@mrray552 жыл бұрын
@@chbal9935 Something I never see. And we've seen them at every point before and after the race. Checking the tune on the engine (checking plugs for optimal output.) Tire pressure we've seen them check it prior to putting the tires on never after coming off the track. The tire pressure could be huge during the end of a race on a slick track. Their shock setup is very different from many of the cars up front. Some of that could be driver preference. Their car bounces a lot and rotates like crazy. If you watch the faster guys their cars are very rigid with half as much roll. I've been around dirt racing since I was 15. I'm 52 now.

Im not trying to be a couch crew chief or anything but wonder if the guys have a slick track package of penske shocks. Wonder how much affects the shocks have on getting the power hooked up on a slick track. Would an actual shock dyno in the trailer be helpful or would you need someone to be able to rebuild them and revalve them?
@craigcarney44642 жыл бұрын
Shocks are a Big part on a slick Track instead of moving bars to tighten them up u should be able to put more bite in with a shock adjustment ! I’m thinking they truly need help in that department
@IS4AU2 жыл бұрын
@@craigcarney4464 Craig thats what I was thinking too. Would a shock dyno help? I mean they shouldnt have to revalve them . They should be double adjustable already.
@craigcarney44642 жыл бұрын
They have a spring smasher and I thought they had a shock dyno a year back or so. When the track slicks off you always put more gear in the rear and adjust the left rear shock to keep the left rear planted on the track for more forward bite. We would also adjust the j-bar to get a little more pinion angle which will give you more forward bite. There biggest problem always seems that they get pulled down the back stretch from center off you can watch the other cars gain 4-5 car lengths on them every time! They have had the same problem for over a year now and it doesn’t get any better. So until they figure that out they won’t make the bigger shows!
@IS4AU2 жыл бұрын
@@craigcarney4464 I knew they had a sprong smasher for checking loads when they change springs and such but never saw a shock dyno. I see what your talking about off the corners but could that be attributed to corner entry or not being able to pick up the throttle earlier because its just bustin the tires loose?
@GentryRacing6292 жыл бұрын
@@IS4AU really dont see a shock dyno being useful other than checking to see if shocks are bad. They would have someone that can change the shim stacks at the track. But honestly the penske stuff has like 40-50 clicks of adjustment. Dont see why you need to revalve
