Few years back some people I know bought a huge lot of comics that had been stored in a barn for around two decades. The lot was from a store during the 90's comic boom. You could almost tell the exact date the store was closed, somewhere around 1996. But the lot was incredible. They let me go thru it at their house. Found a #1 "Eightball," still got it. Felt like I found one of the secrets of the universe when I hit that gem. They flipped that old lot into their own comic store: Bratz Comics in Tupelo, MS. Check 'em out if you're in the area.

I have to thank you guys again for turning me onto Daniel Clowes, as I had no knowledge of him before finding your channel. However I was lucky enough to find your channel just a month or two after you launched it, before you guys had started addressing the Kayfabe effect in every video. You would sing Dan’s praises often and kept mentioning this Eightball masterpiece, so I took your word for it and quickly hunted down the original issues online. Managed to score all 23 of them fairly quickly and easily, and didn’t even have to spend too much. Boy things sure have changed since then, as now those back issues are crazy expensive. You were absolutely right though, this series is a work of pure genius. I was also lucky enough to snag all of the non-eightball graphic novels he did, as well as the big hardcover biography, and all of the later issues including #23 in one big eBay lot for $75. It’s really cool he put this new collection out, I just wish he would start putting out new material!

It’s funny, I preordered this book in a flash sale. Hadn’t heard anything in a couple of months so I sent a polite email to Fanta asking what’s up. Four days later it arrived. In my head, I was picturing Eric scrambling to throw it in the mail. Book looks great! Solid reading copy.

I pre-ordered this Eightball collection the instant it was solicited in Previews. I didn't know about this or even Dan Clowes before Cartoonist Kayfabe and by the time I watched your first video about Dan, the HC collection was long out of print and prohibitively expensive on the after market.

Yes, please do a video on Velvet Glove! (3rd time's the charm indeed. Pre-ordered this a while ago, while also regretting how I wasn't even aware of the hardcover version until it was sold for crazy prices on eBay, and regretting how I passed over the single issues back in the early aughts because they were slightly pricey).

Issues 19-21 are collected in David Boring, 22 is reprinted in a slightly changed format as Ice Haven and 23 is reprinted as The Death Ray.

I feel fortunate to have a copy of the hardcover version, but is there a compelling reason to buy the paperback too?

To have a cheaper copy that you can read more often and not wear out the valuable copy. That's what I've done from time to time with valuable comics/books I own that I want to keep re-reading. I buy a cheaper trade to preserve the condition of the more valuable copies I have.
