Had one just like it in ND in the mid 1970's. We were a John Deere family but having operated both Deere and and Cockschutt tractors of the era I have t say I think Cockschutt was superior until the 3010/4010 came out.

I still live north of Brantford Ontario where the Cockshutt originated and died. Dad traded a Cockshutt 40 with a 50 diesel engine installed on a brand new 570 in a factory to farmer sale in August 1959 (LPTO and I think dual hydraulics). An company executive named Norm Moore presented Dad with a coffee percolator at a deacons meeting at Church claiming Dad won it in the raffle at the sale, mortifying my Dad no end. Drove the 670 during my teen years.

40 mph, damn, that's breakneck speed for a tractor.

Cockshutt was the first with live PTO ,an oil bathed clutch unit bolting externally the rear of the differential housing. Faultless from being. They were also first to use direct injection diesel 4 and 6 cylinder engines.

Doubt they were the first to use direct injection, when the diesel they used was a Buda, which was never direct injection until Allis Chalmers bought them

@RJ-lj3zt Sorry. I ment in 4 and 6 cylinder. Edited the comment to correct.

The last Cockshutts built had the red frame. When the 500 series first came out they were painted only the cream colour and then switched back to the red frame like the Deluxe series had because farmers didn't like the all cream

Cockshutt was absorbed into White by 1962. They already bought out Oliver by 1960. To say this was the last tractor before the buyout seems a bit inaccurate

The 570 Super ( engine upgraded from 298 to 339 Hercules) was the last production tractor built . After 62 they were all Oliver built painted red and remarketed as Cockshutt

@@johnbailey5304 I had a 570 super I bought back in 2012 and got it running. It had the Hercules diesel and then later sold it to my employer.

@@mtpocketswoodenickle2637 I now see the innuendo there. Wasn't my intention the battery box on the tractor really had just a bungee holding it in and I noticed it wasn't secure.

Belive that they had a 580 built but was destroyed by white only the frame survived or something someone in Ontario has rebuilt it either using a white frame or the original frame.

Nice tractor but like the owner I don't like the colour - the older Cockshutts had really stylish lines and very nice colour scheme.
