I rember designing a website in the early 2000's with the original D-Stock Moquette colour scheme many years ago. The I.T. teacher was confused at my unusual choice of graphic design, and when asked where I got my inspiration, 'tube train seating upholstery' seemed to bewilder him. I was sooooo nerdy back then, and I was only 11.

My favorite London Underground train. I remember going on them in the 80s and I thought they were pure quality with their Aluminium skinned carriages and the elegant single outer doors that looked so ultra modern and clean in design. They were quiet and powerful when pulling out of a station and of course were made by Metro-Cammell at Washwood Heath, England before the Company was taken over. I wonder why they are being replaced; I guess in these times where labour is more expensive than in the past the bean counters decide to pull the plug on keeping older designs going, I dunno. After all the wearing parts like bogie bearings will presumably have been changed many times in their long life. On the other hand new trains are usually lighter and have regen braking to save energy.

I can remember seeing these brand new coming out of the works at Washford Heath. I dont like to make it a "North vs South" thing especially when a lot of the North doesn't have a T&W Metro (and Teesside could well do with a tram system to link up the major towns, Sunderland & Washington too), but it says a lot that so much old TfL stock got replaced prior to 2018, 30-odd years old and the T&WM is soldiering on for another year and a bit. I know its not an N vs S thing because the Type 1 EMUs lasted with NWSE for years and years, and I think some of them hit 51 with Connex and FCC, but T&WM is going to be about 44 when replaced (and to think there's Class 155s doing the run from G'head MetroCentre to Sunderland nearly as old as the Metro), and how many DMU's and EMU's have come and gone from TfL etc.? I know footfall makes a *massive* difference, but I'm gutted at how badly T&WM extensions have gone compared to say M'cr Trams & obvs. the Tyne & Wear Electrics etc. were never turned into a sort-of MerseyRail style, heavy-rail but local self-contained network a'la Ldn-Overground etc.

Before I was a professional entertainer/radio presenter, I drove buses on London Transport, the 207 from Uxbridge to Shepherds Bush. One afternoon on my way back to Uxbridge, at the traffic lights at Ealing Broadway, a lorry came round from the station, with a train carriage on the back, and it just got round, with, I SWEAR, barely 2 inches from my drivers cab. If it had hit my bus, imagine the accident report...How did the accident happen? WELL....THIS TRAIN CAME ROUND THE CORNER!!!! Shortly after that, just about every Friday afternoon, someone would crash into the back of my bus, in the bus stop. This went on for about 6 months. I transferred to the underground, I thought, you so and so's can't find me down here. SADLY FATE SHOWED ME I WAS WRONG! One morning at Northfields Depot, I was crossing the tracks in the train shed, to get to my train, when a train came through the shutters! I thought, "I'M OUTTA HERE!!!!" That's when I turned to being a professional entertainer, later, a radio presenter.

Yes it was reported a few years ago that the Leeds-Harrogate-York line would be replacing the Pacers (horrible ride, bus seats and squealing wheels - especially on the tight bend at Crimple Viaduct) with "discarded" tube trains (maybe these D Stock ones) but since then they've changed their minds and gone for purpose-build heavy-rail trains, rather than LT trains. Maybe the D stock will go to the Isle of Wight for the Ryde-Shanklin service. Are any going to museums? I imagine the Acton (Covent Garden overspill) LT museum will get one.

Could somebody tell EastEnders that the D-Stock has gone? The show is still showing characters travelling on this stock and not the S7 Stock.

My favourite trains the jubilee, for the sound as accelarating and pulling into a station. Really going to miss them trains, the 96 stock and the northen line trains.

I never knew that they upgraded the Maketts on the D-Stock. I only remembered the original ones

One thing which will be missed is the transverse seating, which is much better than the longitudinal seating on the S-stock.
