I have always wanted to learn to play this song and I love your tutorial! I am a beginner at the piano. About 1 and 1/2 years of self teaching. I am finding this a little difficult to get under hand, but I am getting it. No matter how long it takes to learn this, it will be worth it in the end. Thanks for all that you do! Jim, This has always been my favorite. I could sit and listen to it repeatedly for hours. I would give anything to be able to play this song on the piano. I do not play piano but would love to be able to play this one song. Floyd Cramer, Jerry Lee Lewis and Micky Gilley all played piano with this unique sound and I just loved it. They have all passed away now and nobody else plays like this which I think is sad. I hope you learn to play this song the way Floyd played it.

Oh! Thank goodness! I’m so glad to see that you are teaching slip style! It’s my next challenge because a friend’s father, who lives in a home, is now alone after his wife (my friend’s mother) died recently and I would like to play for him this song. But I want to be sure to play it authentically. Thanks so much for breaking down the fingering. Your videos are great!

I was a kid growing up when this was first released. It seems like I recall this just being played everywhere, ..(even big cities like Los Angeles)..from car radios, to supermarkets and hardware stores, from the time I was in kindergarten, through the years I grew into adult sized clothes. It always had that magical quality, and still does. Floyd ‘unlocked’ the coolest piano sounds! Thanks for ‘unlocking’ this, and so many more for us Christian. Really like the songs/artists you’ve been playing and teaching !

I love this technique. Norah Jones with her magical fingers and her less is more voicings does a beautiful job of applying it to many of the songs that she performs, specially Jesse Harris’ One flight down. Excellent job Christian with the tutorial. It’s funny, but Last Date was the very first song I attended to learn over 30 years ago on the piano, quickly realizing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star was a better option, but it starting to pay off. LOL
