A last chance for Garrett and I to bag some deer. We brought out his new custom 6.5 PRC. The build is an Origin action, Proof Research barrel, Manners stock, and Nightforce NX8 2-5 - 20x50 F2 scope.

Can't say I respect this long range shooting at big game. Not my cup of tea. Both shots weren't accurate or on target. Lucked out to hit them mortally.

Wait for the long range guys to come pouring in on this. Plain and simple, clean and ethical kills are a lower priority to them. Not sure why that’s so hard from them to admit.

I mean c’mon. 690 yards? That’s why he hit the deer in the ass. Not only because of wind hold. Just rifle accuracy itself has to account for 5-6 inches. Add wind to that and i don’t understand why you take that shot. I’m sure they could have moved in a couple hundred yards closer without being noticed.

Are any of you bow hunters? I’d be willing to bet more animals run around with horrible archery shots having broadheads festering inside them. Nothing is ever everyone’s cup of tea. How many times do you see or hear of guys shoulder shooting animals with archery gear and not recovering. Or gut shots, or anything other than vital organs? Nothing or no one is perfect.

Glad you got both deer in the freezer and looks like a sweet rifle setup, love my 6.5 prc! That being said, pretty irresponsible to be taking almost 700 yrd shots with a rifle if you haven’t spent some serious time shooting at that range, and don’t factor wind in properly. The deer’s dead but a hip shot is not the right way to respectfully treat an animal in my opinion, probably a long and painful death. Appreciate you owning up to it and hopefully you get dialed in for the next hunt!

I killed a doe this year at 125yds with a 6.5 swede and I hit that deer through the hip as it was quartering to me. It was in tall grass and I just estimated wrong where the deer's vitals were and I was apparently off by a couple inches. The deer ran about 100yds across an open field, slowed down for another 50yds and layed down just inside the treeline across that field. I watched it all from my binoculars after the shot. Gave her about 30 mins and followed a pretty good blood trail right to her. It wasn't the shot I would have liked to see, but she died quick and is in the freezer.
@ChuckinTV
@ChuckinTV 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it happens unfortunately, but you have to be thankful when it still works out in the end. And it was a very long day knowing that this deer was injured. In the end I feel we made the right decision to not chase this deer and put pressure on it. We were very relieved to come back and see it laid out in the field. I think if we went with our impulse to run up there to finish the job, we might not have been able to find her. I appreciate your comment because you came forward and was honest about your experience. We are expecting some negative comments to come from people that would never dare post their own mistakes so others can learn from them. Thanks!

@@ChuckinTV to be honest, I don't really consider what happened to me this year and what happened on your video a mistake... at least not a careless one. It's just what happens when things don't go perfectly. I have no doubt that you, your friend in the video, or myself have tons of shooting experience with our equipment on the range where things are as comfy and controlled as they are gonna get. Hunting is in the wild. Deer move, they shake and reposition, they duck, they jump, they breathe and do random things, always in living motion. The wind blows, swirls, and gusts. Random wispy sticks fool the rangefinder. Rifles and ammo don't act the same way at 20 degrees that they did over the summer and early fall. Point is, the only thing you can do is bring your "A-game" to a wild situation and put your best effort into killing a game animal as quickly as possible without causing undue pain and suffering. It's a decision that is made with care and contemplation, and only the individual hunter can make decisions that they think are ethical. Don't worry about the negative comments.

It was a tough choice to back out on that one. I think we made the right decision to give it time though. Had we went up there, we could've kicked the deer and never found her. Luckily it worked out even better than we expected it too.

I hunt with the narrator and this was not that long of shot for the cartridge, the equipment, or the person at the trigger. The point was a reminder to even the most experienced, in the heat of the moment, to ground yourself and confirm your windage and elevation adjustments. Applies to any hunting situation, regardless of implement, or distance.

What barrel twist you have and what speed would that bullet leave the barrel? I wonder if my creed with 1:8 would be ablte to stabilize that Berger 156. I have good luck with 147 eldm sofar Good shooting guys if People haven’t done it them selves they have no clue what it means ... I find out to just about 700 it’s pretty doable after that I start hesitating to shoot at animals right now ... I have a custom 300 Norma I still haven’t tretet enough bullets but I’m sure that one will be good enough for ethical 1000 yard shoots
@ChuckinTV
@ChuckinTV 2 жыл бұрын
This is a 1-8" as well. I'm not sure how the Creedmoor would handle such a heavy bullet. It might stabilize and be very accurate. But I don't think you'd be able to obtain very fast velocities. The PRC is pushing them about 2900 fps MV
@henryhenry5897
@henryhenry5897 2 жыл бұрын
@@ChuckinTV thats for sure fast I only shoot 147 at 2580fps as it only a factory barrel ... but it kills just fine infact guys report after 2800 the 147 start to blow up in flight occasionally ... I’ll maybe give them a while I found Berger have a tendency to fly faster tho than others idk why

@@brandonsimon2804 that’s awesome haha! And yeah truthfully it’s the best bang for the buck when it comes to the action itself. I am a huge fan of the proof barrel. Pricey but awesome you can just drop right into it.
