My kids are 7 and 9 and their father slowly has made his way out of their life and they have been taking it really hard. To see Asa with Abbie warms my heart. You guys are truly amazing parents and I cant tell you enough how important that is to your kiddos. No matter how hard life gets you still push through. You guys are awesome.

About the sensory overload: I know y'all are well in tune with this. I can tell, because you listed a bunch of ”it might be” causes. But, for new to autism parents, I find it really helpful to sit in any given place/situation and try to concentrate equally on every part of the experience (noise level, fans, seating sensations, kitchen noises, engine noises riding by etc) at once. If you do that a few times, you can see why our kids get so easily overwhelmed. I hear so many well meaning loved ones say things like, ”why does he let those little things upset him so much?” I try to explain that they really don't understand what is important to concentrate on (traffic and temperature of food) versus what is unimportant (like a fan, or a loud ice machine), so they try to take it all in with equal importance, and it is OVERWHELMING when you try it yourself. Sorry for the lengthy comment, but it is helpful to try and empathize. Thanks for what you all do. P.S. LOVE the overalls!

Yes!!! I cried when they cut her hair so short! Asa and Priscilla, PLEASE don't cut her hair that short again!!! Pretty please! And it's actually harder to take care of short...longer hair is easier for ponys and braids or whatever...can't do that very well with shorter hair and if you do manage to, it falls out fast. Just my .02 cents..

Cristina Gilly I don’t think she would wear that type of clothing, autistic kids are generally really picky with clothing because of sensory overload. Chiffon or anything that sticks to your skin would cause them to just take it off because of the heat. Notice how she almost always wears a certain type of comfort shorts made out of synthetic cotton, or if it’s denim it’s loose stretchy jegging type material and not harsh to the skin. She’s better suited to softer clothing from Ross, even though it’s not as cute for her it’s more a comfort thing with material for autistic kids.

Donald Wambugu i never wear anything tight or not soft I actually have a sensory thing as well. Only thing I wear are leggings. U can find anything in those stores if you look! All of my rompers are soft soft cotton.

I bet you guys know this, but just a tip. Prepare the area a while before you start the training. So that she is not all about the plastic covering on the sofa, but thinks that the plastic on the sofa is the norm. Like just have the whole house be something she is okay with a while before you commit to the whole thing :)

FIrst off, my condolences, Asa. Side note: My dad's mother lived in Upstate NY, and had the same issue. When she died (years ago), she died in March and couldn't be buried until June due to the ground being frozen. Second, Abbie looks adorable in those overalls, and Priscilla, I have that same dress! It's so comfy! Third, the Abbie-cam at the post office was great!
