I want to thank Scott for coming by. No laying in a pasture or a parking lot in the rain. Sitting in a sort of air conditioned boat, rocking and rolling for three days shows stamina. Calling him the DD whisperer just does not sound right, and DD muleskinner is far off too. His sense of humour is tremendous as is his patience in explaining what he was doing. I needed to learn about these storied engines and he taught me well. The boat is an Ocean Yachts 46 Sunliner. I am rebuilding/recommissioning her. She needs a lot of work, but I could never feel good unless the engines worked. They now work. Great job and a fun few days. I recommend Scott, Bus Grease Monkey very highly. You can see more of my boat on my channel Buena Ventura Life

NUMBER ONE thing to do when you encounter a boat.......Pump off a gallon or ten of fuel into successive jugs. I use water gallons because they're opaque and give a good view of the separation. I deal mostly with smaller gas pleasure boats but the concept is the same. These huge marine fuel tanks with their huge vents are WATER FACTORIES and it ALL sinks to the bottom. Haven't played with Detroits since the early 70s but really enjoyed your MCI rescue and this boat one in particular. Good Luck to you.

Man, you dodged the bullet once again on that stuck #1 injector. It's amazing how huge the injectors are on those boats to get the required horsepower! Just goes to show just how tough the bottom ends are in those 6-71's. I don't think I've seen an M15 injector before, even in marine apps. I would imagine those 2 turbocharged engines will play with that 45 foot cruiser once they get the rest of the gremlins out and the fuel tanks flushed out. Well done man!😁👍👍

I'm surprised the fuel filters didn't have a water detector warning light and/or engine shutdown system, given the peril a disabled/damaged engine could cause in open seas. My 1994 Dodge Cummins diesel has a water-in-fuel warning light which consists of two probe wires, in the filter, measuring electrical conductivity, which is greater in water than fuel. Anyway, thanks for the video's Scott, they are always a pleasure to watch. Looking forward to your next adventure.

Last month I had my fuel tank professionally cleaned on my sailboat. They pumped out all the fuel then pressure washed the inside of the tank, 40 gallons. My "Racor Filter" was full of water and so was my secondary fuel filter. Maybe next week I'll have a chance to clean fuel lines and HOPEFULLY there's no water in my injectors or pump! Oh I hope! $$$ Your boat owner NEEDS to change the impellers. Easy job if he can get at it. On my boat. The one in the picture above is a Ericson 41. The engine is flip around. Westerbeke 4 107. A cat would have trouble getting back there to change the impeller. Flush those fuel tanks. Once you get on the way, all that muck at the bottom of your tank will come up. FLUSH.

I hope they have their regular marine mechanic fix the neutral safety switches. Probably change the impellers, too, because they sat so long. even in a boat, Detroits don't like to get overly hot. I'd hope they go to a Laundromat or cleaners. Not to insinuate anything, but I once had a co-worker who would stop at a truck stop and do laundry rather than just take it home and do it (for almost free) in his own machines. I asked him about it, he said he didn't take laundry home for his wife to do. I didn't push the issue, but I often wondered what he did with the clothes he wore on his off days when he wasn't working. I know they had a good washer and dryer, because I helped pick them up at Sears, helped pull the old ones out of their laundry room, and help lug the new ones in there, as well as other visits to their place to help them with projects. I've also known guys who would buy a second set of washer/dryer that would be dedicated strictly to shop clothes, to avoid getting oil and grease in the "good" laundry machines.

Hi Stan - Many thanks for that - I live in the UK and as far as I am aware our service areas do not have the Laundromat and if they do they are certainly few and far between and also would be damned expensive also you are only allowed to park at the service areas for 2 hours before they fine you (talk about being ripped off) - we have cleaners in our towns but parking Scott's bus would be a complete nightmare. Good thing that you check the fuel filters before restating the engines.. Dealing with a hydrolocked engine is not a fun thing to deal whit.....
@rolandtamaccio32855 жыл бұрын
,,, hydrolock will almost never come from the fuel, usually: intake, head gasket, head, injector cups, possibly back through wet exhaust manifolds, but water can sure foul up the injectors, but many times will just shut down, because it won't go through the fuel filter. Worst scenario for the injectors, if it gets in them, freezing and cracking them, but very rare .
