LAST DB 'TUG' Standing! The only Operational DB Class 60 not at Toton!

Sad news in Jan-24 that DB stood down their class 60 locos from active operations. All previously operational class 60's were moved back to Toton with the exception of one..
See 60024 'Clitheroe Castle' stabled at Arpley Sidings in Warrington as the only remaining DB operational example anywhere other than Toton in Nottingham.. 60082 has been stored at Crewe TMD(E) for years plus there are ex DB locos in the car park at the former Brush facility at Loughborough however non of these have been active for a long, long time.
Hopefully this loco is being kept maintained and at some point it will see one last mainline run back to Toton (hopefully under it's own power).
See views of Arpley Sidings and Warrington Bank Quay station also. The yard/depot now resembling a fraction of what it was in the past (like a lot of depots unfortunately)..
All footage was captured using a compliance sized drone in-line with the current CAA drone rules as of Feb-24.
Hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching.

Sad to see what has happened to the 60s as they still look a relatively modern loco. British railways are a bit of a mess nowadays with the amount of locos and rolling stock lying idle. Great footage anyway 👍

Excellent Footage as Always 60024 is Down As Stored. Shes Stood there with 4 Hoppers as The Arpley Tunstead Hoppers had to be Reduced From 24 to 20 So 66s could manage the Loaded trains

Great footage! From my understanding, 60024 is technically already in the stored pool of DB locos, as are the examples being held in Toton. To me, that indicates the best that can happen is she'll be dragged to Toton, not under her own power😥
@trainsplanes
@trainsplanes 6 ай бұрын
I’d agree that a drag is the most like option however we can always hope for a pool change/move under its own power 🙏

I guess its easier to ship in another European 66 thats more "standardized" than think about trying to keep the 60s going.

Sad to see. Doesn't seem that long ago they were getting overhauls to become "Super 60s" much to the delight or railfans. I'm aware that the reliability still wasn't great post refurbishment, though. I've personally witnessed 60s limping on two occasions. I guess that's what it comes down to at the end of the day. I wonder if they had done a better job with the overhauls it might have worked out better, or have they always been doomed to be troublesome? A shame to see less variety. But at the end of the day, what's best for the operators and what's best for enthusiasts isn't always going to be the same thing.

If the upgrades had made them reliable enough they almost certainly would have stayed in service, shame it didn’t work out

Nice catch. Hopefully DB sell them on to DC Rail or GBRF 😊. I hope DB loses all of it's contracts as personally I think this is a stupid idea to use 66s on everything.

Logistically it’s a good idea to use the 66 for everything; then you have parts/maintenance commonality, only one class for crew training, etc

@@trainsplanes I'm not really focused on the mainline these days and it's a bit of a shocker. But having seen that the class has had a history of faults stemming from design flaws to being retired early 20 years ago, this is probably not that surprising.

@@joecurly3637In truth the real reason is due to poor management and lack of proper investment on rebuilding the Class 60 fleet back to how DC rail are doing their own fleet. Would it not work out more logical to buy a new batch of Stadler Eurodual locomotives? Especially as EWS/DB have not bought any new locootives since the 1990s.

@@BritishRail60062 I think your point is valid in the privatisation process has made the care for trains (including maintenance and investment) to get more lazy. The class 60 has been really unfortunate in the process, especially how it's been stored and somewhat revived similarly to the class 56, but they're certainly luckier than the class 58!
