On October 18th 2024, Canadian North’s final Boeing 737-200 left Canada for the very last time.
C-GDPA first flew in 1980 and has a storied history flying for Dome Petroleum, Pacific Western, Canadian Airlines International, Air Canada, and then Canadian North up until it was retired in May of last year. Since then, it had been stored in Edmonton, awaiting a buyer.
There were apparently a few interested parties, but eventually, it was purchased by Quintin of ‪@QFSAviation‬ here on KZbin and was ferried down to Roswell, New Mexico, for preservation.
This is a project Quintin is working on to preserve different commercial airliners, with a couple MD-80s and a 747 so far, with DPA being the 5th plane in the collection.
The Alberta-based society I volunteer with, the Time Air Historical Society, was hoping to get it for our own collection of Canadian airliners in Lethbridge, but that didn’t quite pan out.
Still, I am genuinely glad that DPA will be preserved and not turned into plane tags like so many other historic airliners have been.
For all of those reasons though, watching it leave Edmonton for the last time ever was certainly emotional.
A big thank you to Quintin and the awesome folks at Canadian North for letting me tag along to get this close up footage, and I hope you enjoy.

As one of the board members from The Time Air Historical Society, we tried everything we could to keep GDPA in Canada. Thank you to everyone who helped trying to get her to stay here. If you want to see what we are trying to do and wish to help us via our many different ways of social media and our monetary goals, because the cost of one cup if coffee would have prevented things like this from leaving. I want to thank Alex for being a part of history one last time for everyone to enjoy for DPA. We all believe in our goal and will always work hard. Stay tuned to The Time Air Historical Society l, we will have more interesting thing via the world of JT8Ds coming in the near future. Thank you again to everyone. JM-

I flew that bird for a dozen years. My favourite of the B737 fleet at Canadian as Dome Petroleum spared no expense and it had all the toys. -17 engines, Omega navigation, big airspeed indicators on both Captain and First Officer panels, heavy gross weight, fancy autopilot, etc. End of an era…

I flight planned this aircraft many times during my career with Canadian Airlines In Calgary Dispatch. I was always happy to get this one because of its JT8D-17 Engines as most, but not all, of the other gravel kitted 737s had the lower powered -9 engines. One of my fellow dispatchers had been a flight attendant for Dome Petroleum.

Nice - brought back some memories. I worked on the gravel runway package for this a few other 737's back in 1967 ish. You can see the NG gravel ski and vortex dissipators on the engine inlets.

Alex huge thanks for catching this one. Emotional goodbye for those of us who actually sat in the seats of C-GDPA. Trusting it and the talented operators to take us Northward to work and return home safe. Goodbye friend. So happy to hear she isn't being bagged and tagged.

I miss these old birds. Used to fly on them a few times a year as a kid back in the 90's when Canadian Airlines was still around. Always wanted to be near the back where I could watch the flaps and thrust reversers on landing. Since flown on the classics & NG's and while they are still a nice plane to fly in, I miss the old -200.

Hey Alex. Kind off a sad day. I was with Nordair Canadian etc in the east. Ties and friends in YYC YEG YXD. and knew DPA. I grew up on 737-200s and in particular those who had gravel kits. I’ve landed in YUL, YOW, YVO, YGL, YGW, YVP, YFB and YXY in the north on 737 200C. Probably a lot of more southern airports as well. Have friends east and west who transitioned to Canadian North. Sad to see this era coming to a close. Thanks for the update.

Not much of an aviation guy myself, but as a greater Edmonton area resident who has gone to see C-GIPW in person at Villeneuve a few times, the small 737s are a personal fave when it comes to jet airliners, and definitely my favourite of the underwing twinjets. Crazy to see yet another case of one of these old workhorses being flown one last time to bring it to a new home. I do wish I had been able to see C-GIPW's flight out of Blatchford in person, but I was too young and oblivious.

There's a 737-200 in the PWA livery sitting at villeneuve airport west of edmonton which is owned by the alberta aviation museum. They don't seem to have any solid plan for its preservation as they have no facilities at villeneuve. It would be great to see it moved to Lethbridge where it can be properly preserved and appreciated

Decades ago I used to fly to the Yukon and NWT and had a lot of flights on these combies, they were great aircraft as they could land on gravel runways. Some of the best flights were in the winter with the norther lights were just outside the window with the cabin lights off at 30,000 ft., awesome.
