Last Ever Day of Daycare

Yes it is true. I know that headline will shock so many people. Some are going to feel very sad about it, and we understand. We’ve felt sad too. Tears have been shed the last two weeks by Luke whilst he’s been driving the bus each day.
But the future of the farm is still bright and magical. It just feels hard to see it right now when it sounds like goodbye.
But it’s not goodbye.
All the day care doggies will still be able to holiday at the farm whenever they like. Just them. We won’t be open to the public.
AND many of the day care dogs have been chosen to be a part of our therapy pack. A weekly trip to the farm, where these highly social, highly responsive, purely positive, beautiful, incredible dogs will now help us, help the rescue dogs.
This is what we will be focusing on now. The rescue dogs in our care. Those we have now, and more in the future.
They need more from us than what we’ve been able to give and we simply cannot juggle both. It has been a dream of ours for a long time now, a dream that existed before we even started the farm. But the decision was brought forward this last month with significant change in staff and resources. We just couldn’t continue as we were.
But Luke and I are big believers that most things happen for a reason and we feel this is where our hearts lie at this stage in our lives. And also the direction of the farm.
There will be lots of questions. We had a big hour and half Q & A last week behind the scenes and we’ve included a shorter version in today’s video from about 12:20 onwards.
We’re hoping it will help with initial questions. But we would also like to do some more talking videos over the next couple of weeks about our plans and how it will all work.
Some people will feel sad thinking they will no longer get their happy daily video. This isn’t true. There will be lots of happy daily videos continuing. The farm is just moving on to the next adventure or chapter in it’s story. And we certainly want to take you all along with us.
We are actually very excited about the next chapter. Enriching the lives of these dogs that have been literally discarded by humans and society. Swimming lessons, camp outs, beach trips, birthday parties, Easter treat hunts etc. It’s going to be something special.
We’ve been so fortunate to have had so much support thus far with our little farm, we hope to continue to do this together with you all.

How can we be anything but thankful and supportive to a family that has opened up their hearts and home to so many of us each day? They owe us nothing, really. Even though I knew this day was coming, I did experience the same mixed feelings as the two of you. I love your last paragraph that you wrote Sam, because it truly is the truth. Whenever I see Yoyo and Freddie and Shadow, I can't help but to think of all the hard work and love you put in to helping them become the dogs they are today. And I love to see Freddie with your children and how kind and tolerant he is the little hands all over his head and never a yap to be seen or heard. I have worried about the very long days you have been putting in Luke and am very happy to think you might get to sleep in until oh maybe 530 AM! As a member, I knew this day was coming, but I felt this was a great video to let everyone know. I hope everyone will see that the videos will still be here, and we will still be seeing the majority of the daycare pack in these videos when they come up on Wednesdays or for a vacation or holiday stay. Second, I don't know why but Miss Red and Miss Violet ALWAYS crack me up, so I look forward to more of their antics! I am astounded at how far Freddo came in his journey! He went from being afraid of life and swimming to an accomplished diver! Freddo watching everything Bandit was doing and Bandit's mentoring was quietly spectacular! When you started your journey you had the courage to follow your dreams, so you took the road less traveled by so many other folks. Kudos for that because the reaction to that is folks all over the world who are watching, and feeling wonderful and healing themselves of their blockaids in life. So, I see this as a fork in the road, taking the road less traveled will inspire more and more folks to take that step onto their paths to helping out where there is a need. Sam, I have been worried for you & Luke lately with how stretched thin you were, especially Luke with the grueling hours of driving a bus along with his never ending list of responsibilities elsewhere. What you’ve been able to accomplish with so many rescues while still operating the daycare has been so impactful and meaningful. Seeing how invested you are in the welfare of every dog that finds themselves at the farm, especially the special needs ones, it doesn’t surprise me at all that you would open your hearts and your energy to do even more to help rescues. You two have very unique gifts to nurture and rehabilitate the most difficult rescue cases with your abundance of love, acceptance, and huge talents in dog behavior and training. It really moved me listening to Hope & Faith’s story and how it related to the ptsd that Luke and his military mates also go thru. Perhaps now that your energies are focused on rescue, maybe combining veterans into that mix could be really amazing. It’s pretty life-affirming to see Violet, Red, Maggie, Barnie and others actually thrive at the farm and develop amazing coping skills to overcome their own particular disabilities. Have you thought about involving veterans somehow as volunteers or dog-related therapy? I think it would be life changing for them to witness to magic of the farm pack at work. Each of the hardest cases you’ve rescued have turned around and paid it forward with others in need on the farm. All you have to do is look at the contributions of the original rescues like the shepherds, shadow, Freddo, and yo-yo. I am so proud of the work you’re doing, because it is clearly a calling for you. May god bless and protect your family in your effects. I will certainly keep watching even more so in support. ❤️

I was sad at first, but you found an incredible calling that gives so much back to dogs and their future owners. Shadow is an incredible example of this. I remember that video assuming that Shadow would never be able to be around other dogs and the goal was to just make sure she wasn't reactionary when she saw another dog when out & about. Now look at her!!! Also, it seems like Shadow has an extremely special place in Sam's heart!

Have I been watching you on Facebook for 6 years... then U Tube, when I discovered this. I'm an old duck, mostly bed bound and watching the puppies all the time, is a joy for me. I am kinda sad but also very happy 😊 that you guys are saving so many puppies 🐶 that to me is most important. I was thrown in the heap, gave up, wanted 😒 to die 😑 . I am sad that the daycare has come to an end. I have looked forward to your videos for years now, as they have always brightened my day, especially during the Covid crisis. Seeing all the different dogs with their quirky ways and the sheer enjoyment of the pool and dock diving, the hunt for treats on the walks and all the chases. Watching them board the bus with such enthusiasm and excitement. Seeing the dogs' total enjoyment and their carefree devotion to enjoying every moment with you has been wonderful. I understand and commend your decision to change direction and hope that it is successful. Many dogs are euthanized because of behavioural difficulties that are easily dealt with given time and attention. Sadly, kennelling can cause even more problems. Hopefully, you will be able to save many lives, giving them a second chance for a loving home. I will be watching for your future videos and wish you every success with your new endeavour.

With everything that has been going on in the US lately, DDFT videos have been my escape. I love watching dogs large and small racing out in the paddock, little white pillow pooches sinking down in the mud puddles proving they are farm dogs, too! But I really love seeing the love and changes wrought in the rescue dogs. I just watched every video I could find on Shadow, and watching her relax and love life feeds my soul. I cannot wait to see the new, emotionally wounded dogs find themselves at the farm and then find a new family to love. Well you took me by surprise, but also didn't. If I can be contradictory? lol The bonds you built with the rescue dogs, many lucky pups found homes, and some you kept for various reasons. Gorgeous Freddo's shocking lack of interest, continued structure for beautiful Shadow, the health of the staffy girls, but there's a heap of love in those decisions too : ) which is all testimony to your good hearts. So moving focus to rescue work, seems a natural progression to me. You're good kind folk, it shines through. Magical things happen at the farm, and its been a pleasure, a privilege...and a rollercoaster witnessing a glimpse into your world.
