Hey Storm, love your videos, been a sub for some time now. Do you ever explore outside of Gary? Even though I lived in Gary as a child, I mostly grew up in Hessville. Any chance you could get to some areas of Hammond? Like Hessville/Kennedy Ave/169th area? North Hammond and Cal City would be great too. I'm sure it's changed a lot since I left the area back in the 80's.

First off I really appreciate the love and your subscription for a long time now. It’s good people like you and these kind of messages that make me keep wanting to do what I do and I really appreciate that so much. I did plan on doing some of those spots And I have been doing outside of Gary for a while now, but I will definitely start concentrate on Hammond and Calumet city. Thank you for suggesting those areas and keep an eye out for the videos coming sometime hopefully soon.

So much has changed since the 80s and that is a good reason to do these videos because it seems like they are knocking them out of these places down or refurbishing them

That building used to be Pepper Pot Pizza. The motel I remembered being a Travel Lodge at one time before it was the Interlude.

Wow, that really is going back in time. It does make sense now the way the building is shaped. Thank you for that info. I really appreciate it and I love her and about these places it seems nobody really remembers them. For taking the time to your comment, I enjoyed reading it, and I will be pinning it to the Video so others can enjoy your contribution to this Video.

@@TheSteelCityStorm Also Storm, hoping I remember correctly, Jonathons Pancake House was once a Big Wheel restaurant. To the east of the now Mosely motel was a Pepe's taco and it was also the Burger Chef before Pepe's. I'm not swearing I'm right my memory may be going hah. As always I enjoy the ride and the exploring!

The Scuttlebutt was actually a bit farther East on 20. Scuttlebutt and The Little Red Mill were on past where 51 meets 20. Spent too much time there as a young musician.

Use to repair beer coolers and ice machine in Red Mill. Yes interesting. They paid with 1$ bills cash. Imagine $250 in your pocket walking out at night! Yikes!

Oh my goodness, don`t remember that club but been in the interlude club in the `80s. That parking lot was the zaryes parking lot, ran away from home one time in the winter and hid in the store after closing time, got caught by the janitors and went to jail. Dad had come and get me, oh the memories.

OK, you are right. I forgot which one was which there was so many of them in that little bit of area. That story is crazy. I enjoyed reading that and I’ll bet you do have some good memories. The funny thing is like me when it was happening it wasn’t funny but looking back, it sure made good stories. Thank you Steve for sharing that memory and I’m always looking forward to seeing your comments my good man.

I was actually here once, circa 1995 or about, think it was the Caddy Shack then. Like the Pink Pussy Cat on Broadway, I walked in, then walked right back out as fast as I could. This is still standing? I need to get a photo!

Those places were really sketchy back in the day lost Vlog for sure and yes, it is still standing. I just took the video about two weeks ago. However, they are doing a lot of work in that area and I do not expect it to be there much longer. If I was you, I would go get a photo as soon as you could just be careful. Everything is rotted out in that place, including the outside Porch

@@TheSteelCityStorm ok thanks, yes I will be checking it out and will post a pic on your FB page. Also, I respect what you said in the vid about shoes. Last year, I was in Georgia, exploring a famous old race track. It was getting late, I forgot to put on my work boots, so of course I stepped on a board in a field with 3 rusty nails sticking out, one of them got me pretty good. I learned my lesson for sure.

Even though this place is gone I'll bet there's a million stories in the minds of people who have patronized the place. I think a lot of these kinds of places are gone now. I don't know of anyone who has gone to them but of course they probably wouldn't tell if they did anyway lol. I say that anything you can't talk about after visiting you probably shouldn't have gone to in the first place 😅. I'm kind of glad a lot of these aren't around anymore. It's hard to explain to your young kids what they are when you drive by, and they ask lol. Hate predicaments like that 🤪
