Good morning Granny. Yes, potato chips are a needed snack. I buy the 2 for $1 little bags if I want some. In fact, because my body throws off sodium, when I feel the urge for salt, that's what I eat, doctor approved. I've reduced my shopping because of my garden. We're the same age as you, and yes, eating less. I don't eat lunch anymore, unless it's a late one then it's my dinner. I've reduced my cholesterol, glucose, and weight just by cutting portions and only eating two meals. Have a blessed day

My husband ( not a huge person ) is on a diabetes drug that's cut his appetite waaaay down so I am eating the same tiny portions to support him. He eats off baby plates! It's so cute. I love the savings the smaller portions are providing. Savings! And very little cooking too!

Good morning! I watch all your videos. This a.m you showed eggs you bought and pointed out the expiration date. I worked in the very first super market in Battle Creek, Michigan. We had a big cooler in the back room and eggs were delivered only twice a year. Consequently, I don't use eggs often and keep them for months at a time. BTW, I turned 85 on January 2 and I was 14 when I started working at the market. Most expiration dates are far shorter than than is necessary. Keep up the good work you do and have fun along the way. Hope you are having a great day, too.

Keeping track of prices at different stores is such a great tip. Where I live in NJ, ShopRite and Trader Joe's have the best prices, hands down. I compare each week before shopping and make separate lists based on each store. For example, I can find eggs at TJ's or ShopRite for $3.49, and then see them at another store in the area for close to $8. It's crazy!

I can't remember where I read this but it goes to what you were talking about. Try explaining what an appetizer or desert is too someone from a Third World Country. As difficult as times may be, we are so much more better off. I don't know if I have ever shared this about myself. The 21st of June I will celebrate 20 years in recovery from drugs and alcohol. I thank God everyday for everything. I have found (about myself) that when things are going wrong, UT us because in have stopped being grateful. A little long winded this morning😂. Cyber huge for you, my friend and, as a always, please give Mr. Gizmo a big hug😸❤🙏💕

Yes, we are spoiled. When I was a child we did not know there was any other different foods. For breakfast, we had Biscuits and gravy. For lunch, we are leftover biscuits and for supper we had pinto beans fried potatoes and cornbread. I remember my first taste of pizza we went to stay with my sister in Indiana she made a pizza one of the ones from a box. I thought that was the best thing I ever ate LOL Then she fed us cream of wheat but she did make it interesting with food color LOL

I grew up the same way. Food was home grown or purchased in a small grocery store that sold the basics. Maybe 2 choices of cereal, if any. No long isles of nothing but breakfast junk food (for the most part) to be served with milk. Flour came in 25 lb bags. Homemade biscuits were the norm. Loaf bread, (except to take to school for lunch) was rare. Don't remember pre-made cakes, as people baked their own. The list can go on. We ate lots from the garden. Lots of dried beans & peas. Home cured salt pork - hams, shoulders and side meat. I love home made pork sausage. Nothing in the store compares to sausage aged in a cotton cloth bag. I was an adult before, I learned about things like pizza, Mexican foods, Chinese foods, and more. Grew up eating mackerel cakes because we couldn't afford salmon cakes. Prefer them today! Remember when we had fresh fruit, only when it was in season. We had oranges and tangerines, as special treats, at Christmas. Fresh salt water fish only on Friday. That's the day trucks from the NC coast brought them inland to my area. Again, the list can go on, as memories surface on the simplicity of my youth, when compared to today. And, YES, WE ARE SPOILED.

I have lived in the country, and also small towns. I remember only going to town (40 miles through the mountains) once a month. We would buy flour, sugar, and staples. Mom and me would can up veggies, and the freezer was always full of our own butchered meats. I had a awesome childhood. Nowadays I live in Indianapolis. I still grow a garden, but have to buy everything else. Your cabbage looks good. And the stir fry is a great way to stretch out your meat. Thank you for sharing your video.

I was raised to make a meat a vegetable and a carb. Of course with the years I have learned that a meat should be a protein of any kind and that corn and peas count as a carb and not a vegetable. I cook a meal on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday for the 2 of us and then it's leftovers for the rest of the week. Saturday is frozen pizza, hot dogs, burgers etc.

Great price on your eggs Granny! I paid 12.97 for 3 dozen at Walmart this week myself, But I have info that eggs are going over 8 dollars a dozen. One question -Is anyone else having problems with whole milk clabbering up before expiration date? I've checked my fridge it's fine, bought milk at two different stores still happened twice in one month? Very strange 😮

Your cabbage reminds me of how much I like cabbage soup. I make up a big pot and freeze it in quart containers. That's enough for a meal for 2. All sorts of ways to make it depending on likes and dislikes (or diet restrictions) of various ingredients. Thinking about taking a quart out of the freezer for supper. Thanks for sharing. God Bless.

I watch the ads for the more high-end stores in our area because sometimes they have the best lost leaders. County Market has Penny Pinchers, which can be really a great way to stock up. Schnucks will run great sales on frozen vegetables and thier bakery clearance when i don't want to deal with going to the Walmart super store because its crowded and parking is a mess. I also use the Fetch and Receipt Hog apps on my phone, it takes about a year to get $40 on RH but only a second to scan the receipt. I also have Ibotta, but i don't buy that many name brand items, but i just cashed out $30 and it took about a year. I email companies for coupons, such as Amy's, they have blessed me in the past and some companies have coupons online to print. Hope this helps.
@bettyir43028 сағат бұрын
Never heard of Amy's Enchiladas but I don't buy prepared foods so wouldn't know. Whew, $6-10! Homemade enchiladas take no time to throw together and a whole casserole dish costs less. BTW, just lay the tortillas flat and layer ingredients rather than rolling each one. Good you found half price chips. Did you get your cabinet organized? Tip - is there a little space somewhere to hang the chips and pretzel bags on a hook on a wall or inside a door? Use a hole punch to make a hole in the sealed part of the bag tops to hang them out of the way and they don't get crushed. It has been years since we had a bag of chips in the house. YMMV, I have more time than $ so a 25 cent potato is the same weight as a bag and have homemade BBQ, taco, etc. seasonings in half pint jars for about $2 which lasts forever.

I live alone and older. I try to keep my budget for food only to about 100-125 a month. No beef in my cart hardly ever, as you say, basic foods that can be used a number of ways. Eating and saving money nowdays almost has to be a full time hobby. When I see carts piled high with expensive ready made food, out of season produce, snacks, organics, high priced meat and fish I suspect the same people complain about how they can't afford to eat. When our family was younger I felt that these expensive items were money stolen from owning a nice home, kids college educations and retirement. We ate well but I also had kids who were not allowed to whine about what they had to eat. I have a daughter who thinks liver and onions is gourmet cooking, a son who comes home for chili and homemade bread.LOL

Good morning. It's funny that you had shredded cheese on here. I will not buy shredded cheese, but what I did this morning was shred three 32 oz blocks of co jack and three 16oz mozzarella. I weigh them out into 8 oz packages and freeze. Lol. I don't mind the work. So, if it's convenient for anyone to just buy it already. Do that! It's just cost efficient for us. We live over an hour from any grocery store. Love you, enjoy those chips! I have 3 chicken breasts marinating in fajita. So that will make 6 meals. 1 chicken breast for 2 plus all those veggies and side of rice. Many blessings have a great day ❤

Just to show you how GREAT the insurance companies are now, I recently switched primary carriers and among the benefits that I qualified for by doing so was a benefit card for groceries.(I now have a.medical condition that qualified me) I was told I needed to use the benefit before the end of the month or it would not roll over. I was also told that I would have the card immediately. Well.... Here we are almost at the end of the month and I haven't received the card yet nor can I get an affirmative response from my insurance company as to just where the heck it went. Same for my over the counter benefits. So, I'm missing almost $200 worth of benefits with no way to get them, nor are they going to fix it. Not to mention they screwed up my insurance card info, (listed wrong primary care physician!), so i had to reschedule all appts for January. Finally got that one thing fixed, but no appts. available with specialists until February !!! They truly don't care. Oh well,.....😢😂. I'm glad you're having better luck than I am. Blessings from Central Florida. This, too, shall pass.... 🙏🤗
