Morning Granny! I've had a small hiatal hernia for about ten years. My gastroenterologist never told me I needed to have surgery. The only problem I have is if I eat too late and then go to bed food feels like it is going to come back up. I totally understand your recipe for lemonade! My husband died in 2022. Six months later my van died - had to buy a used car. A few months later my old clay sewer line collapsed under the street and I had to pay $14,000 to replace it. The Lord impressed on me MANNA FOR THE DAY. Remembering that when I'm overwhelmed gives me His Peace. You are wise to read and learn about your condition, and glean from others about their experiences. So glad you shared these concerns so your KZbin friends can lift your needs up in prayer. God Bless you & keep you in His care.

My car quit and I'm riding the bus now. Also my plumbing goes down very slow. I don't have the money to do the plumbing. I do have my health and I'm happy about that. My mom had a hernia like yours. She never had it operated on. She lived to be 95. Granny do what I do. Take it one day at a time. Read your Bible praise God through good and bad times. JOYCE in Kansas

I am Canadian, so my experience is much different than those who live in the US. But what I do know is that the longer you wait, the larger the mass can get. The larger it is, the bigger the surgery will be, and the higher the risk of complications. I wouldn't wait. It's not worth the risk.

I have hiatal hernia. Have not had surgery. My doctor told me some things to do to help with symptoms. The best for my specific symptoms has been eat small meals, never eat 4 hours before bed, sleep proped up at night. Drink lots of water. Deep breathing exercises helped me with cough. I truly hope you can get feeling better and glad you trust us to talk about your feelings. Know your loved and prayed for.

I love the fact that you are doing the research about your medical issues and looking at your options. You are incredibly sensible and will weigh up the benefits against the risks and will adapt your decision if you need to if things change. Now you know what you are dealing with you can work out how to manage it. Same with the van and the septic tank. It is assessing the situation that is scary and uncertain and you are almost through that. We are all rooting for you.

I recently had a transesophageal and hiatal hernia repair after many years of trying to deal with it. It did not get better with weight loss. And i lost a lot of weight. It was still there. It made a huge difference! At least for me. But do be careful if its causing you to wheeze even if mild. You do have symptoms. But. The surgery for me was no joke. Because it was transesophageal, and i had allowed it to go so long, it was huge. And i was on operating table for 7.5 hours. In hospital for two nights. I had no one st home to help me. So i prepared ahead of time. Made food , put in freezer so i just took it out, thawed and microwaved. Even had coffee pre proportioned out so i could get it easily ready. My dog stayed with someone else for a week. I just took tylenol gor post op pain because i was by myself and was afraid of falling as narcotics just keep me groggy. I will say, the surgeon told me that many people live sith histal hernias. It depends on what other organs it is affecting sometimes they can press up against your heart and lungs and that is a different situation. Because they can inhibit complete expansion of your lungs and cause you to get a pneumonia or something like that if you get a cold or if your allergies are really flared up where you’re making a lot of mucus becomes more difficult for you to handle that mucus. I think it’s just up to you as a medical professional, I am a critical care, nurse retired, if it’s not causing any problems you were able to eat normally and it’s not bothering your other organs. You possibly could wait in many people do but I am concerned about the doctor thinking that it was causing you to wheeze because that means in someway, fashion or form it’s interfering a little bit in your airway and you are not actually symptom-free so talk it over with the doctor, see if he thinks that your risk for the things I mentioned above are even it pressing on your heart and decreasing the functionality of your heart, but at our age we cannot be too careful. Surgery is hard on our bodies. There is no doubt if it’s not needed it’s not needed if they don’t think it’s going to cause you any problems with your other major organs and you’re comfortable, but I wouldn’t also let my body get too old before I suddenly needed to have it happen becauseit becomes surgery becomes harder and harder on your body the more you age so it’s it really varies, but it’s ultimately up to you. I personally am going to try to avoid any more abdominal surgeries. I just have had four of them and I don’t want anymore.

I’m sorry to hear that. I’d get a second opinion…too many doctors try to find something to get more money I’m afraid. My mom has had that hernia for years and years and they will not do the surgery. They gave me a scare during a mammogram and after several doctor visits, biopsies & around $8000 out of pocket, it was nothing. It was right after the pandemic and they hadn’t had much business….praying! ❤

Uggh, never a dull moment when things go awry, that's 4 for sure.. I watch your channel and you are such a sweet lady! In my honest opinion, I would get a 2nd opinion and discuss the situation as to whether it's a life/death situation and what's the outcome if u decide at this time not to have it done especially if you are having no symptoms such as pain, acid reflux, and/or any of the other signs or symptoms that come with having a hiatal hernia that you can research online. My sister had hiatal hernia surgery but she had a large visible protrusion you could visibly see between her upper abdomen and chest wall, causing her pain. She did well with the surgery. Knowing what you do know, probably best to avoid any heavy lifting. You're a smart lady and your plan sounds reasonable to me.. Thinking of you and sending hugs and prayers your way..

First as a new follower I want to say that you shouldn't worry about music and fancy editing. I love your channel and your approach just fine as it is. Its like sitting and talking with a friend at the kitchen table. While I don't have a hiatal hernia my husband did for most of his adult life. His doctor never suggested surgery but like many others here made some adjustments for the symptoms like losing weight, sleeping slightly upright, not eating late at night and staying away from foods that would trigger symptoms. Your issues sound different than the usual symptoms though if it is bothering your breathing. As many others have suggested a second opinion with a gastroenterologist to see what they recommend for lifestyle changes and if they would help you avoid surgery might be helpful in making a decision.

There is nothing wrong with sharing this with us. A family member of mine has had a hernia like that for several years. If the management is followed things are ok with it. It flares occasionally and pampering is required until it lines back out. I’m doing a pantry challenge as well. It always seems to come in bunches! Same thing happened to me a few years ago. I went in for a routine exam and found a mass in my lung. I had to have lung surgery. Thankfully it was removed and benign. I am a camper too. The most important is your health. Everything else will work out. Hernias are a very common surgery. My husband had 2 hernia surgeries. In and out in one day. As for me, I am 78 and still going. Don't let this get you down. We must keep pushing through. I like challenges too. We are made of good stuff! We are that generation! Contact your church and ask about a mechanic. Some will help seniors at low cost or no cost. Just an idea. Sewer, sounds like you need a pump out. I have a septic system too. Good thoughts to you! Hugs my friend.

Granny, wisdom is within you. I think you know your own answer. No symptoms, is just that. Sometimes, it's best to leave well alone. Look up and look within. I do it all the time. Can't say I'm perfect. But I can say when I ignore that still small voice I've paid the price 😊 For instance, 2 weeks ago, I walked into dollar tree and heard within me, someone is very sick in the store, turn around and leave. Well, did I listen, no! I got so sick, 2 days later, I thought I was going to die. All better now. However, I have never been that sick in my life. Always listen 😊

This! This is sooooo true. Listen to that still small voice Elijah heard in 1Kings 19:12 (God's voice). I myself would not have the surgery if I had to be "opened up". I'd do laproscopic or DaVinci surgery once it begins to bother me (you). Sell the camper and individual contents, get an older, one owner vehicle, and meet up with others to go camping. Definitely need septic repair. Do what you gotta do to pay for this, ie look into Senior loans, SBA (you do have a YT business), AARP recommendations, and the like.

On the septic, are you hooked up to the city line? Could it be roots in the system on their side? If it's your own septic, not hooked up to city line... do you think your tank is full? Have you tried a septic cleaner/derooter? If they offer free estimates, I would get one to at least have an idea of how much you need to save for it even though its at the end of the list or at least Google to get a price range. Knowing is less anxiety, I think. No problem sharing whatever is on your mind that you want to share. We all have ups and downs and need prayers and support...or just a listening ear. Hugs and prayers being sent your way.

Hello Granny, we have had our share of lemons lately as well and are trying to make the best of it. I have had a hiatal hernia for many years and I asked three doctors about surgery. I was told by all of them that surgery typically isn't done for those anymore unless it was really bothering me. They advised me to eat smaller meals and try to lose a little weight. I've lost 25 lb and I feel so much better. The only time the hernia bothers me is when I over indulge. Best of luck to you with the van, the hernia and everything else life throws at you.

Thank you for sharing with us, you are right, we all have issues and problems that we deal with. I have been a diabetic for 25 years and I didn't take care of myself Like i should have. I started having vision issues with my left eye this past weekend, so I called and got right in with my ophthalmologist here in Kingsport Tn. Tey ran scans and found that my retinopathy has worsened and I've leaking which has caused macular edema in that eye. So on the 30th, I will start getting my first eye injection. I've taken several of my patients for those injections and watched them thinking I can't imagine ever having to go through that. Well, it's my turn, and like you I've researched and have educated myself. My meds have been changedand I'm eating better so my blood sugars are much improved. So thank you for sharing your experiences. I've had several patients and some family with those hernias, they didn't have to have surgery so I pray you are able to avoid it, but glad you have educated yourself and are prepared if you do need to go that route. Always love your videos, and pray fopr your continued good health. Sending love from Justin and Paul in Kingsport Tn.

I think holding back and maybe checking into like you are doing is good! I had a belly button hernia way back in 1997 but didn’t even know it and the way it was found was when I was getting my gallbladder removed then he found it a small one and repaired it. But one like you are talking about I just know that some Dr’s not all, but some like to be quick to do surgery. I’m so glad you check on things. They tell you not to google stuff but I do it anyway. I have a substantial hiatal hernia too. Like yourself I have chosen to try to lose weight to lessen the problem. After research and speaking to a gastroenterologist I discovered that the surgeries have a high failure rate. So I prefer to not put myself through a surgery that may only be successful for a year or two. It is something that I can address with a few changes and although that will be frustrating occasionally it is still far more preferred over a surgery. And I also understand about life just getting messy sometimes. In fact just this morning we had a plumber here to fix a problem. Never a cheap fix. Will add you to my prayers. Love your videos.

I was told that I have a hiatal hernia 20 years ago. I was so bad that even drinking water gave me terrible heartburn. I gave up eating meat and dairy and went on a plant based diet and I felt better in only a few days. Today, 20 years later, I'm still on a plant based diet and I have no problems as long as I stay away from meat, dairy and processed foods.

My mother had a hiatal hernia and never had surgery. She had a wedge at the head of her bed that helped. She didn't eat anything heavy after 7 pm at night. Tried to eat her larger meal at noon, and a bit lighter at the evening meal. Spicy things were not in her diet, nor were brassica's. I believe she also took a medicine, but I'm not sure what. I have had trouble with a hiatal hernia twice in the past. I did not opt for surgery. I went to a chiropractor who fixed the problem with 2 - 3 treatments (adjustments). That was when I was in my 20's; I'm now 56 and haven't had a problem with it in over 30 years. I'm SO thankful I tried something less conventional and saved myself all the pain, both financial and physical!, in the process. I'm praying for you. God bless you, Dear.

They say bad things happen in threes, that’s so true in your case, I’m sorry to hear you are having these problems. I’ve had 2 major abdominal surgery including repair of a large hiatal hernia. Both were done laparoscopically so only very small incisions to heal. One I was allowed to go home same day (day surgery), the other they kept me for a few days for observation. Then I just had to be careful with lifting etc until I healed the rest at home. My advice is to do the surgery asap because you never know if it will be available to you in the future. I know it’s scary, I was terrified both times, but any risk only gets higher with age as you heal slower, as I’m sure you know. Also, if you get it done now you should be healed up nicely in the springtime. If you have any questions just so, and I hope things improve for you soon 🤗

My mom and my husband both had a hiatal hernia. They never had surgery. They just watched what they ate and were fine.

I don’t have a hernia so I just read up on it. Looks like you could get one or two more different tests to see where it is and what it’s pushing on. One of them is an injection of radioactive material and a scan to see what its pushing on. I get that injection and a heart scan every other year to see how my heart stents are doing. It can tell them a lot, and I would want to know if I were you how dangerous my hernia is right now. Prayers for you always💕

Hello, Granny!.. Just letting you know that I am praying for you. You sound very wise in making your decision about your health issue. I'm like you, I don't like a doctor who likes to rush a procedure, especially surgery. Of course, there is a time where something is life or death but this isn't the case. I went to a doctor that was so eager to set me up with a surgeon for my gallbladder stones. I told him no. Boy, he didn't like that! Today, about 2 years later, I still have my gallbladder and I did research and take all natural ingredients when it wants to flare up, I calm it back down.

Granny, yes, please get a second opinion before surgery. Surgeon told me I needed surgery for a hernia a couple of years ago...my gp and cardiologist said no surgery. My old gp from many years ago told me that a surgeon will offer surgery, a gp will offer medication....its the way they are trained to treat people. Im axious to journey with you if you choose to lose weight. I've been trying to lose extra weight just to feel better in general. We just got our truck back with a new transmission...truck seems happy and we are happy. Our plumber is coming to our house Monday for our hot water heater (its still under warranty). TYG! I made a pitcher of Crystal Lite Lemonade in your honor tonight. Sending a prayer things get better soon!

I had a hiatal hernia surgery and it went very well. The surgery was laparoscopic and the recoup period was a couple days of a sore area in my stomach. You need your van is 1st, sewer is 2nd, and hernia 3rd since you have had it for years and have not had any issues. Good luck!!!!!

🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼😇 I am 73 & had a major hernia surgery. It wasn't the type you may need. The new laproscopic and robot assisted surgeries are less invasive and are now outpatient in nature. If you have it I hope it goes well for you as mine was for me. Take care.

Im sorry AAA treated you that way. They have always been so prompt with me. Im sorry about the surgery thing..I know your family will take loving care of you,Ive never had any surgery but wisdom teeth and tonsils. All my prayers to you ........I think Id do as you are and try some other things if you have no symptoms.I had so many years where I had to watch every penny as a single mother and a teacher. Im blessed now that I dont have to scrimp. The best thing I ever did was go to a financial advisor who set my retirement and investents up for my senior years. At 74 Im good.......Im blessed and I love you!

I have hiatal hernia. Weght gain especially belly increases pressure. I can tell you it improved after weight loss. The danger is it can twist or can cause choking. And can make you feel like you are having a heart attack. After losing weight Dr instructed also no large meals and nothing several hours before bed. So 15 years later Ive avoided surgery. Hope this helps. Prayers and best wishes❤

I'm sorry to hear that you're having troubles. But I know where you're coming from. It seems like if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all. I just keep praying and hoping that I'll pull out of this mess that I'm in. And that's both personally and economically... My prayers are up for you. Keep your faith, Rosa, it has always helped you in the past and he will keep you safe now. Blessings from Central Florida 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I have had those days, weeks, and months. I will be praying for you. I also would like prayers for my special needs daughter. She is having health problems and is still not diagnosed. More testing is to be done. Lymphoma has been ruled out now, Dr. Is thinking perhaps sarcoidosis. I will ask like mornings with granny , if anyone has been diagnosed with sarcoidosis how are doing health wise.
