This was the last remaining K-Mart in MN. It was expected to close June 12th for a construction project. On May 29th 2020, rioters broke in to loot and damage the establishment. No one saw this coming before the George Floyd events (RIP George Floyd). It is sad that people have the nerve to do these things. There are better alternatives! I've been to this store many times during my time in MN. I know most of the former staff and they were devastated when they were told the store was closing June 12th. Most of them worked there for years. It is dreadful to see that it had to end like this for this store. Since I really small, I loved going to kmart back when there were so many around. It was one of the 1st places where I started buying basketball cards (it is what started my hobby in the sports cards industry). The moments are real! This was the only kmart close to me during my time that I spent when I was in town. Thanks for adding more to my kmart memories!
At no point did I ever looted or destroyed anything in the establishment. I did asked permission from some of the former staff that was out there before recording and taking pictures.

A sad end to a store that was always controversial. I know it's just a corporate store owned by a dying company but if I had lived in this neighborhood I would have gone down that toy aisle just as I did in the one that was in my hometown. Places have memories and meaning and soon this one will be only a memory.

This video reminds me of our old Kmart in Ogdensburg NY. The store closed in 1998. But that was during the ice storm we had. Apparently the cruise climbed up on the roof and used pickaxes to break up the ice and punched holes in the store roof. When the ice melted it ran all down inside the store and flooded it. I remember going in there right before the store closed and the whole back half of the store was under water.

So was the store open here, or was it just being looked at by employees? Any indication on what is happening with whats left inside? Seems like there was a ton of salvageable merchandise. I'd imagine the water is from the sprinklers and/or fire dept, otherwise maybe a busted water pipe? The water didnt look that discolored, and water in the sprinklers is usually black/dark colored.
@trolljones4386
@trolljones4386 3 жыл бұрын
It was probably the insurance companies doing the damages but the store had no control over the merchandise anymore as what happens when stores close is they basically sell the stores to the closing company which does the process of it.(the closing company getting an insurance payout and closing the store).

joe mlm I worked for Kmart for almost three and a half years. Trust me those jobs were starvation wages. Kmart should’ve updated their stores when they came out of bankruptcy instead of acquiring Sears. Committed to higher quality products, better employee training, updated website, updated and open to relocating stores rather than just closing them. They should’ve partnered with banks, restaurants, and other businesses so they could have what a lot of Wal-Mart Stores have. Stores within stores.
