Next thing you know it'll be a Holley Sniper and front disks. Sacrilege! Back in the seventies I would buy an electronic ignition kit that was fired by a Hall effect transducer which was triggered by a ring with 6 or 8 magnets depending on the application. I kept a set of points and condenser which could be swapped in about as quickly as in a stock distributor but never had cause to use them over several cars and many years. If I remember correctly the first kit cost about $12 and the last one, about 10 years later, cost $19.

Just started my 440 I rebuilt over the winter for my 70 GTX. 70 block. Aluminum heads. 484 purple shaft cam. Melling high volume oil pump. Milidon 7 qt. Oil pan. Rebuilt the 3 Holly 2 barrels. 10 to 1 pistons. I also took off the headers and went back to stock 70 exhaust manifolds. At some expense I might add. 😮. She starts right up. But pounds 90 psi oil pressure. Heated up she drops to 70. Doing the brakes now. Just need to bleed them. Rebuilt all around. New master cylinder as well as slave cylinders. Thanks for the motivation UTG.

I think you're very wrong on an Edelbrock not giving you the performance of a Holley. I have 2 of those 800s on my hemi and they are box stock except the springs and I'm close to the 9s with them. I'd run Holleys but I wanted the traditional hemi look. As far as bulletproof? I agree. People that say they're junk are close minded. The AVS 2 is one nice carb.

Tip: Make sure the pertronix ignitor grabs its power before the ballast resister. It operates at full battery voltage. I’ve never used one but, I’ve read that’s a common mistake that leads to premature failure. Awesome car man.

I hope you are going to run a fan shroud during power tour. Trust me it makes a world of difference. The first time I took my 65 coronet to the woodward dream cruise it ran really hot in traffic. The 2nd year I found a fan shroud at a swap meet from a Ford of all things it never got over 180 in bumper to bumper traffic.

Great video UT! Spot on about those Edelbrock/Carter AFB's. They are perfect for the street and have crisp throttle response! I had not been around a lot of '66/'67 Chargers but, it sure reminds me of my best friend's black and red '66 AMC Marlin that was their family car we rode in as kids. The shifter on the Charger is nostalgic to me also as it was the same one in my grandmother's '69 Fury III Hardtop with a 383/727 that she was known to get in a few street races with! Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing the Charger out on the tour! Take care!

I agree those Eddys are great carbs. The late Joe Sherman said the whole performance difference between them and Holleys was something that was simply not true. There’s a post of his on Speedtalk forums where he talks about his extensive dyno testing between the two carbs on various combinations showing hardly no power advantage with the Holley!

I wouldn't rush the paint job. Just rattle can it, or something like that to get it on the road. And then when you get back, take your time and get it right. You don't want to go through all that time, work, and money to do a rush job. That car deserves to have the trim removed and polished and give it a good paint job. It might not look as good on power tour. But you'll be much happier with the finished product if you don't rush it. That's a beautiful car. Can't Can't wait to see it done

I love this car! I like the shifter. Reminds me of my buddy's '67 383 Polara we used to beat around in. It was a column shifter though with a bench seat. It was a tank and man did we treat it like one! The ultimate daily driver. And it would go anywhere! We were often the only one on the road after a good snow storm doing our own plowing - literally! We used to get pulled over pretty regularly because it had a cherry bomb muffler. Remember noise ordinances. It was/is a form of pollution and used to be enforced almost as much as a faulty bulb. Can't wait to see and hear her on her maiden voyage! I think you should leave the exhaust on the floor. Kidding! But it sounds bad ass.

Pertronix, bullet proof. Much better than playing with points and the regular adjustment and replacement. Bypass the ballast resistor and keep a set of points and condenser in the glovebox just in case. I put a Pertronix in my Ford 289 distributor after I got tired of asking for points and condenser. In the old and simpler days, you could go into a parts store and ask for a points and condenser for (in my case) a 1966 289 single point. Counterman would wander in the back and return a minute later with the proper items. Same applied to carburetor kits. Is it 2V or 4V, auto or manual. Now they have to fill in ALL the boxes on their glowing box to find if they have what you need and the location. So now you need to go through the Make, Model, engine, transmission, AC questions. 1966 Ford does not do it. They have no understanding or seemingly interest to find out that all Ford V8 engines used the same points and condenser other than dual point. Those used 2 six cylinder points. A couple of timrs I tried telling the person the parts were for my 1940 Ford Fordor Deluxe with a 1966 289.with a C4 automatic. Response came back that a 1940 Ford did not have a 289. Says it had a 239. Good call Jr.. Now would you like to fill in model Ford. Ya hit a brick wall on reinforced concrete with that. The Pertronix solved that.
