There is no such thing as "far gone" with cast iron pans. Half an hour in a oven set at the highest temp, let cool enough you can use a hot pad on the handle,. Pour kosher salt in pan and rub hard. Rust usually sluffs off. Repeat process until salt comes out clean, then oil the pans interior (seasoning).

Cast iron cookware is rarely ever gone. A good scrubbing with a fine steel wool will remove rust and water stains. After the cleaning, it has to be reseasoned with a vegetable oil and heated in a 350°F oven. Let it cool, wipe out with paper towels and repeat. Cast iron should not be soaked in water for any long period. Any stuck on food can be removed by deglazing the pan. Deglazing is done by heating the pan and adding a little water. The boiling action and a spatula or wooden spoon will remove any debris. Rinse and towel dry. There are plenty of tutorials on KZbin explaining how to do this procedure.

I live in Hagerstown and when she said we are heading to Hagerstown goodwill I thought save your time all our goodwill’s have is crap she finds stuff at the Frederick goodwill but I don’t ever find anything noteworthy.

Are all of us resellers noticing that these thrift stores, are beginning to think that they are now boutiques? My local thrift store had some items in the hundreds of dollars for dish sets, when most young people do not use them anyway, and us older people already have dish sets! Everything of any value has gone up, so that there was zero profit to make, and the store gets ALL this for FREE! I realize they have expenses, but most of the help are volunteers. They are way more expensive than the Flea Market down the street, kinda like the prices at this GW. The best bet is still garage sales and e sales! Good luck thrifters!

That tiny Goodwill is a clearance Goodwill. Everything there is .99 so it's stuff that sat at the other goodwills. Hit or miss! Juliette is adorable as always.

The cast iron was awesome! You never get a score like that would have been, 3 pieces together! Don't worry about rust or even grease build up its all able to be cleaned, seasoned and put back in use for 100 more years. Us who use it, understand that. Its very hard to find in most places. The rust just wipe off with olive oil on paper towel. Loved the bunnies. Happy New Year.

@@LindaKayHolevas those were in good shape. Seriously I've been using cast iron my entire life. They just havent been used in awhile. someone made error in putting them in soapy water. I'd put in HOT oven bake off germs/oil residue then wipe down with olive oil and salt. After rust is off put coat of olive oil back in 350 oven for 15 minutes. Ready to go. It didnt look like needed steel wool I think rust will wipe right off. There's nothing better then cooking with real cast iron like those were. I inherited my grandma's its over 100 yrs old, Id love to add a couple more to it.

Even Goodwill raised their prices! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Juliette has learned alot from you. She's going to be quite the flipper one day. You hit the bunny jackpot! 🐰🐇 Cast iron is never too far gone or in bad shape. With some elbow grease they can be re-seasoned. There's a process but once they're done they'll be good as new and will last forever if taken care of properly.

Since the new manager took over and they were bought by another group the prices have doubled sometimes tripled. Making it a disappointing shopping experience everytime. Glad to see you passed over the same items i did for the same reasons.

Hey Jocelyn! This is ironic. I went to visit my son in D.C. and on the way back to PA, I stopped by Frederick's Goodwill. Didn't see much there and told my husband that Jocelyn must have been there! LOL Sorry I missed you and your sweet daughter! I did find a very nice vintage wagon planter, so it still was good. Visited the Restore, then, and got a very lovely Murano Cobalt Decanter and some other things. What a great place with so many cool things! My hubby and I had fun browsing!

Just a quick FYI on the cast iron it could be completely covered in rust and it's never a problem all you have to do is wash it , oil it and stick in the oven for about an hour at 350 and it will be good as new.

Is the white elephant Satsuma? Watch out for large ones of those with Japanese Kanji (not modern alphabet) markings. High quality ones have sold at Christies and Bonhams. Often found with a vase or incense burner on their back. Happy New year :-)

Precious Moments aren't too precious these days; I wouldn't pay more than 10% of what the store had on them and then only if I was keeping it. (and I hate Precious Moments.) 02:36 Saw brass coming through. I'd have left it. I did score some nice Waterford glasses the other day, but my local thrift only gets anything good right around Christmas. It was back to jack squat on Wednesday.
