Hey friends! Sorry for the delay getting this video out. We are finishing up our move this week and looking forward to getting settled in a new space and catching up on all the stuff we need to do. We'll be more active on social media once we get where we are going. The shop is going to be closed until around March. Thanks so much for sticking with us through this home stretch!

I already watched this on Nebula and I'm so excited I can finally share it with friends! This video changed my mind on LNIS from "It's good but it's not CORNETTO Good" to "Yeah, this is up there with The World's End." It really granted me greater perspective and appreciation for the writing and themes. 🥰

I feel such “Joy” when I hear your opening music, almost nostalgic. I’ve been enjoying your work for years. When I found your channel, I didn’t subscribe expecting it to help me, I didn’t even think about it until just now. When I heard the intro music, it just clicked how much this channel actually helped me during that tough period. I find it interesting how something as simple as just a couple notes of an intro can bring me back and reconnect me on such a deep level that I was completely unaware of until this very minute , years later !! Nostalgia can be a dangerous

Remember seeing this movie in theaters, on Halloween no less, and how much of it absolutely tore me to pieces whilst helping rebuild me. I don't have the best memories of growing up both in quality and quantity terms, so trying to accept that I cannot recover what was lost AND that not everything was lost is an extremely resonant aspect of this film. Its certainly not outside my experience either of men fully intent on taking sexual gratification _from_ you, the best of them being ignorant yet still compliant, and how that builds an utter bitterness that leads inevitably towards harm of innocents or allies even if it stems from survival instinct. Everything about this movie is downright gorgeous. Upsettingly so.

I lived in London as a child in the late 1960s and a college student in the early 1980s. Soho was a place of prostitutes, restaurants, and artists. Among the things to remember, the British Clean Air Act had gotten rid of the toxic smogs by the late 1960s. The Krays got fruit machines (slots) into every venue they could. One fact is hopeful for a better future; the other puts an undercurrent of desperation everywhere. Was there great art and music? Yep. Was there glamor and sophistication? Of course. But never forget the undercurrent of poverty and violence that made it possible.

I caught this while it was still in cinemas, and I came out of it having enjoyed it, but the more I think about it the less I like it, as a story. It sets up things that either don't pay off, or pay off in underwhelming ways. The script needed a good once-over to interconnect some of the dangling plot threads imo. The vibes are *_immaculate_* though.

Literally. The direction the story took was very unfortunate in my opinion, it could have been so much more deep and memorable and tied together the main characters better thematically.

Edgar Wright is a magnificent filmmaker when it comes to visuals, music, and pacing, but as a writer, he lacks delicacy, and needs someone like Simon Pegg to help him round out his character arcs. Both Baby Driver and Soho had disappointing third acts, with major characters just abruptly taken out (of the story) because there was apparently nothing else to do with them.

I was reading the Bible recently and there was a story that exemplified the theme you're getting at I forget what abuse the family encountered but when they finally escaped the wife looked back longingly in nostalgia and turned to salt. The remainder of the family after her death then sexually canibalalized themselves and they became lost in generations of drunken incest. I suppose it's a metaphor for how we can find ourselves in evil patterns and lose ourselves if we have nostalgia for the things that scarred us I'm agnostic but so far the Bible is super trippy and interesting

I adore this film! I think it's SO refreshing when a horror film is a lot more focused on the horror of a particular situation [especially one that is culturally and institutionally reinforced by vast swaths of people] rather than ghosts/monsters. Thank you for this erudite examination of the different aspects, and particularly the brilliant lies Nostalgia manages to weave for us all.

I see some of your videos have "Movies with Mikey" in the title while others not. Is this related to length or just by chance? I spotted the logo on the thumbnails but it's easy to miss if you don't know to look for it. I don't know if this is useful feedback to you or not but I only watch your uploads from this particular series and if any more of your subscribers think like this then a clear distinction in the title is very helpful so they're less likely to miss some videos.

Great video, and thanks for shining a good light on LNIS. I put off watching it for far too long, because I'm really not into Classic Giallo's obsession with pretty girls getting brutally murdered in the most objectifying manner possible. But I should have known to trust the team - it's very cleverly icky in a way that makes itself both very clear how this is icky and not sexy, avoiding the traditional male gaze issues. Oh, but dear Lord, Stamp still knows how to light up the screen.

Unfortunately I haven't senn "Last Night in Soho" yet (although I probably should have, given the cast and the director), but hoplefully this Anti-Algorithm comment will help the video until I do! Keep up the great work and take care!
@andrewklang80910 ай бұрын
Good movie, but did it need to have so many pointless jump scares in the third act? The movie had until that point been more about mood, channeling the creepy but subtle atmosphere of 60s horror. Other than that, no notes.
@gamezilla34510 ай бұрын
One of Wright's few disappointments for me. There's some extremely impressive artistry on display here, but it's ultimately undermined by some truly, bafflingly, amateurish and embarrassing character and scenario writing.

A very good film that I kind of hated watching which I guess is the point. Sort of in the same vain of Midsommar, it's just something I will never watch again.
@MrClarkkerr10 ай бұрын
Its Wright's least successful film in terms of achieving what it set out to do but perhaps the only really interesting one as a piece of cinema, because of the contradiction at the heart of the movie and its ambition. Is it a exploitation horror movie and genre pastiche or is actually trying to say something about misogyny and 60s nostalgia? Those two elements never quite gel. The problem is as well is the script feels 30 years out of date. The idea of a Gen Z fashion student being mocked by other students for making her own clothes or being obsessed with 1960s fashion is unbelievable. Plus coming up from Cornwall in the age of the smart phone is not quite the same of coming to coming up from Cornwall in 1994. But saying all this the film is gorgeous and doesn't and there are not many mainstream directors doing anything like this.

You realise the talent was fiction right? The old lady was framing herself as a victim to justify her need to kill , she was probably the agressor in that situation pushing for a spot in the puppet on a string show
