What a wonderfully happy evening. I didn't hear this prom's night when it was broadcasted but so glad not to have missed it after all these years. Sir Andrew Davis really captured the atmosphere of the night with a fun song instead of the conductor's traditional final prom speech.

Watching this on the BBC made me a fan for life of Kiri Te Kanawa and in particular Marietta's Song and Ebben From La Wally. With Plaisir D'Amour by Mado Robin and Solveig's Song (Libor Pesek, Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra) and J'ai perdu mon Eurydice by Maria Callas, these are my top 5 classical numbers

I'm glad to hear another piece by Peter Maxwell Davies. I attended what I think was the first performance of his "Martyrdom of St. Magnus" at a prom years ago, in the Round House, Chalk farm, and I found his music electrifying then as now!
