Infidelity seldom end up working out. Once one cheats the likelihood of it being done again is greater. That said Kiera said a lot even in the end. With Alex I believe he was in love with a thought… When she was with him, he was elsewhere or preoccupied as well. He also had a girlfriend and was going to cheat with her… a believe though they had chemistry one girl was never going to be enough for him! He was constantly scheming.

This movie is like a cup of tea on a rainy day in a cabin, like listening to blues on a brown chesterfield in the home library, like finishing a book that you can’t wait to savor again, it’s like wanting to be alone while at a big loud party. Ms. Tadjedin, you got a fan here. I love everything about your movie: casting - everyone is just a perfect fit for the character, terrific music to amplify the depth and emotions, great chemistry between actors, lots of little scenes, glances, and details that make this movie so special! I LOVED the ending because it was not a cliche, it truly shows that relationships are complex and I love it that people have a different perspective on it. It’s hard for me to relate to comments that are black-and-white, along the lines of “Johanna should end up with Alex” - it’s a tad more complex and profound than that. I do hope there no sequel because this is a work of art and it’s complete.

So, Michael cheated on Joanna but he loved her, Joanna said no to Alex and didn't cheat all-way like Michael did, but she doesn't love him and she is emotionally attached to Alex. Now, 1. Does Michael realize in the last scene that they are going to have same open honest relationshop like Laura and her boyfriend or 2. Did the final grasp of Joanna mean that they are going to argue about it and the whole point of movie is that some marriages aren't worth keeping ? Btw. I don't know if anyone realized here that while Michael saw the shoes, Joanna might have smelled the unknown parfume on Michael.

Joana loved both alex and micheal and she said that micheal did the first move unlike alex eventhough she's emotionally attached to alex and who we are kidding every man would get tempted if a gorgeous woman is working with him even if he's happily married with a woman he truly loves the thing is marriage is just a tool to set some principles and limits for both parties which could never be respected 100 per cent in every marriage so most people chose to just get along with it rather than destroy or end a long term relationship that is based on real things rather than getting slipped away by some simple physical attraction

What I understood was: the "real/physical" betrayal (when Michael cheated on Joanna but it was just sex, not love involved) is nothing compared to the non betrayal (Joanna didn't cheated on Michael, but she has shown how deep she loved the other guy and spend hours with him even tho no sex happend). If I have to pick one situation that it would have hurt me less it you be choose my partner just have sex and not love with other person than my partner being envolved emotionally with other peson even tho there was no sex. Is that make sense? Bc most of the time we think sex with other person would be the worst betryl, right? And in this case was the opposite.

This literally happened to my friends recently. Husband had a meaningless fling after his coworker tried to get with him for half a year he gave in one night after drinking. His wife had been having an emotional affair for years with someone else texting on a daily basis. She refused to respect him throughout the marriage and insisted on her own way. She got bitter and emotionally separated from her husband even though he admitted the affair (without getting caught) and wanted to just move past and humbly took all the blame. His wife then cheated multiple times sexually and still couldn't forgive her husband. She then filed for divorce. He remaireeid within 8 months. She is alone now. So then question is this...Would you rather your spouse cheat once sexually with someone they don't love or be in love with someone else for the entirety of your marriage.

I see a lot of people didn’t like the ending, but I think it was perfect! The way he said to her “I love you”, but she didn’t respond the same way, instead just a deep breath. It was a clear sign she was about to finally say the truth out loud after 3 years of their marriage. But most importantly to admit the truth to herself.

It’s natural to be attracted to people but there are boundaries for sure. Michael desired Laura and nothing was going to change his mind into going to bed with her. He was thinking in the moment not about the consequences of his actions. Laura on the other hand knew he was married yet she pursued him she wanted him. Kind of sad in a way because she was cheated on and she should know first hand that betrayal is hurtful. Yet she pursued him.

Can’t one say that Alex did the same thing… if didn’t have contact with her till the chance encounter at the coffee shop… didn’t he stalk her? Did he not get forewarned by his friend that the end wouldn’t go well. Did she not tell him that she loved her husband? Yet he knew the keys were on the table and decided to leave without them. He didn’t take her home like a gentleman would’ve but took her to the hotel for drinks with his friend. Everything he did from the very beginning was calculated. She was never going to go home that night, whether she wanted to or not. He was shooting his shot regardless.

People are really trivial nowadays. There are only two opinions "she should have stayed with Alex, it's her true love" or "they don't know real love, the characters are losers who can't really love". How about the idea that the movie isn't about "happy ending" for dumb naive chicks and not an hommage to cheating but just a portrayal of our reality, where things get complicated, love doens't mean 'lack of temptation' and just because someone is sad and regretful about missed opprtunity to be a couple it doesn't neccesarily mean that if they had become a couple they wouldn't have broken up already without the haze of mistery, unavailablity and passion? Who said that it's enough to cry with each other to form a long term couple? Who says that just because a person gave into the temptation it means he's a terrible person and doesn't love his wife? People make mistakes, it is obvious from the plot of the movie that her husband has never cheated on her and plus he struggled with the temptation even during the movie. But our nature is weak, that's fact. And if it's not a habbit, but a single mistake it doesn't mean that a person is a piece of crap, it just means that we do make mistakes. I'm sick of these pretencious 'angels' who write that "these people don't know love if they are attracted to someone else!"- are you f ** ng serious? If you are a healthy sexually person you WILL BE attracted to different people from time to time, it's normal, but it doesn't mean that you should act on that. However expect your beloved one not to have a boner to someone else ever - that's increadibly pathetic and just shows your inner insecurity. THESE people will never know what love is because they measure love by the fact of present or absent errection regarding other people what's INCREDIBLY retarded. The movie shows that there is no "happily ever after'' if you don't work on your relationship, that loving someone isn't a feeling, it's a state of mind and will (to be faithful, to fight for the relationship), that love doesn't mean 'no temptation', it means 'there are many temptations but you gotta fight it', that romantic sweet feeling of being in love as Johanna and Alex have isn't real love that lasts throughout years in a marriage. Who said that if they had married Alex wouldn't have cheated on her faster or she on him? Relationship in a five year marriage is different than meeting for a night every once in while to reminice about the past. And that's what the movie is about- to show the reality. If you're too stupid to analyze the great work which this film is and the issues it shows without going full "naive 12 years old" or "a judgemental bit ch who never makes mistakes" - go watch The twilight or other dumb crap about "perfect love" which isn't love at all, but whatever, it is shown sugary and unrealistic and that's what matters, right?

There's no need explanation of the ending, they both cheaters and stay in relationship because it's marriage, it's what happens sometimes...they may eventually find out, they may divorce but that's life there's no straightforward happy ending...

No. Alex loved her, but he was incapable of committing to her and settling down. Joanna knew this, which is why she married Michael, he was her safe choice. Sometimes the love of your life isn’t going to be the one you marry.

For me, I would truly abhor to be left for such a petth reason as lust. Lust is fleeting and can be put on anything or anyone. A certain innocent touch can cause lust. Acting on that lust while in a committed relationship shows that the relationship does not mean much to the person in it. You can not love me and cheat on me. Now, if I get left for love, I would still be upset; however, the reason is more substantial. If you do not love me anymore, you should not be with me. If I get left, at least it was not because we did not try. It would just be because my partner ended up loving someone else. Now, if they had to physically cheat to get to that point, we would be back at the above situation. If my partner did not physically cheat but fell in love just the same, I would thank goodness for them not giving me any diseases or risking a child being brought into the world between us. Just leave. Explain why, of course, because we are in a relationship, but then leave. I imagine it will be much more amicable. Now, if I still love my partner, it will hurt a lot to know his love is directed elsewhere. If I dont love him anymore, he might have done me a favor. Who knows, right? This is why I feel like people fear the truth too much sometimes, thinking a situation will pan out one way and they end up being wrong. Sometimes, the worst situation people imagine does not even happen. I know a lot of people fear breaking up with others because they don't want there to be drama or crying or screaming, but if you are honest, the situation might surprise you.

I was really impressed with the movie when i saw it in my high school years. But now, it just seems dumb. The acting is great , but the theme is so dumb. If she really loved the other guy so much, she should've just stayed single and not mingle and marry her husband. And the husband is straight up cruel for giving in to temptation. Its not that thought provoking or high art as it seemed when i first watched the movie. It's just a bunch of dumb characters making dumb life choices.

alex_l3o so I watched this movie like right now. I might be the only one here but I quite didn't like it. I mean it was made well. I know its just a movie but what I don't get is that if two people are in love they don't get attracted to someone else. If there's some problem in your relationship you both work it out. Like I didn't even see that there was some problem in their marriage. And I don't know what's worst her husband being a prick or she hiding her secret romantic bond with someone else. Why they were even together.

Venus Veronica i understand and share you point of view. But I think this movie shows how difficult can a relationship be when you are (in their case) get married too early, and how you can easily not fight for this relationship but leave yourself to go with someone else. About the problem in their marriage, for me the big problem was the communication, they didn't communicate with each other, not a good thing... and then they were attracted by someone else... I liked the movie because this is not a happy ending like most of the movies. Here this is closer to the reality.🤗 Watch the movie "one day", the story is much better :)

+alex_l3o yes I get what you are saying. For me if you get sexually attracted to someone else while you are in a relationship maybe then that person doesn't understand love. I know in reality its hard but instead of fooling each other they should come clean. Yes I have watched that movie. Watch these movies if you feel like. I think these are some of the best movies I watched so far- Keith, before we go, in your eyes, teenage dirt bag, like Sunday like rain, Copenhagen, once .

I really don't see the point of this movie at all if not just to depress anyone. I hate anything about cheating on someone, and that is coming from me, an atheist who made vows to a nonsensical superbeing. Those vows, however meant something to me, and even decades later after our divorce, I still kept my word. I will die still being honest to my word, but a vow is a vow regardless of what you believe.
