I LOVED this show. I found it by accident late one night on my local PBS channel. I was awake, depressed and in all kinds of pain. I had just gotten out of the hospital after a car accident that took my wife and 2 of my 3 kids away from me, I was also told I'd never walk or talk again. I walked out a few days later lol. Anyway this show and "Waiting for God" probably kept me from self canceling. Then a few months later they aired the episode after Compo/Bill Owen dies and it was like losing everything all over again. I so wanted to meet these people. I was designing a game a few years later and had even checked into what I'd need to do to add Compo, Cleg and Truly in as some NPCs that you could come across occasionally just doing what they do in the tv show. Even got my mom hooked on the show. Went to the library and found a dvd collection of all the old episodes and she pretty much binged the entire show up to like right before Truly came on (that was all the library had at the time). Great show, amazing show.... Thanks for saving my life.

I have been forunate to have collected the entire series. I watch a couple of episodes each night before bed. Regardless of the day I have had or what is going on in my life -- I am raised to a higher place of peace and thanksgiving. Last of the Summer Wine is my personal blessing. Has been for years. Glad you found it as well.

My dog loves this program, we have had to record 20+ episodes to play while we are out at work and he lays watching until he gets dozy and I have to always put it on at night so he will come up to his bed. I remember watching it as a child with my parents and grandparents and found it as funny as I still do all these years on

“Keeping Up Appearances”, “Last of the Summer Wine”, “Are You Being Served”, “As Time Goes By”, all of these British Comedies are true comedy at the best. I wish these types of comedies still existed!

The BBC no longer caters for the middle aged or pensioners or anyone with more than 2 brain cells. It's now run by quiche korraine eating, chardonnay sipping, Guardian reading neo marxists who think that unless you're a university educated millenial what you want to watch doesn't count. They still want your £157.50 a year licence fee though. I haven't watched the Biased Bullshit Corporation for at least 4 years.

Move to the uk. We have 3 programs a day. From episode 1 through to the last show the it starts again. Wonderful lost my dad in Jan. pneumonia. Couple of weeks ago we had compo funeral. Suddenly realised I was crying. I agree with you. These fun loving old folk reminds us of our own families. My wife’s family live only 15mins away from holmfirth. I took my parents a couple of times. Lovely happy memories of my family sat round the box on a Sunday evening watching this.

This was a time when the BBC knew how to produce wonderful sitcoms and programmes that everyone could enjoy. Not like today’s miserable selection of doom and gloom soaps, irresponsible man-boy car racers, classic novels that are modernised filth, endless boring games shows and rubbish so-called talent shows which we have to pay for because if we don’t we are hounded by their bully boys enforcers. Roll on the day when this so called licence fee is made illegal. It certainly is not valve for money.
