Race report
I was ready, yet I blew it.
The weeks leading to the race had been hectic with marvelous 150K weekly. Double marathons and all. I was in perfect shape but on race day, I wasn't able to deliver.
Since the Pyrenees' crossing, I was on a roll. Escape from Meriden, Montmatre 271, Paris by Night... I was getting unstoppable.
Getting to Last One Standing this year, I was fairly confident to be a top contender. All thw signs were there. After 12 laps / 50 miles, I was still drilling the same pace and my lega were fresh. Lap 15, it was still there but the legs were starting not to move as switfly as they should, yet I wasn't bothered by any form of pain of discompfort. Lap 16, I am bored.
I never EVER get border while running. Something is wrong. We are deep in the night and the ground is frosty. Lap 18, I still don't know what is happening. 2K into lap 19, I can fill it drift. It is over. I don't have any power in the legs. I finally get it. Fuel. I didn't fuel enough. I wasn't eating as much as much as I should for any ultra and even less than I should with the cold. It's a shame because for once I didn't fell into the early morning hypothermia trap.
I blew it. I stop after finishing lap 19 with seconds to spare. There is no point in pushing further: I was "running" even uphill and burned out what was left in my tank to pass the line.
It is a hard lesson learned. I still don't kow how to properly fuel for ultras. It is definitly getting better thank to the Pyrénées, but I still need to work on it. And I will.
How do you feel after giving up after 19h (128K) when your legs were ready for 40h+?
When it is from a totally avoidable mistake?
Furious. Absolutly furious about yourself.
I will learn. I will know better. I will conquer.
See you on the trails.

Yes, I'll be running it but not racing it. I am using it as a long run before a 480k a week after
