Where my father was born. So sad to see it like this.

Need to feel for the guy. Probably stayed there most of his days with fond memories of the place as it wasn't always a shithole. I bet like he said, if the flats were renovated again it would be great for social housing at least. The buildings are clearly bomb proof, they have been left to rot for years and you'd think you'd start to see major decay but the buildings are absolutely sound. Even the roofs are in good nick!

The only problem is that if they did it up and made social housing all they’d do is put all the rejects that don’t appreciate it into it and the place would be a disaster all over again. This has the potential to be absolutely something of a fix for the housing crisis I totally agree, however the riff raff that’d end up there would make it a waste. Should do it up and select certain residents for housing there, people that just need a good solid home! Would rejuvenate the community, re open the school the shop create jobs and whatnot!

Where is this? There is a man in Stanhope Place in Wishaw. He is the only person in the building and North Lanarkshire Council is demolishing the building around him. Perhaps these two men can get together and contact their respective MP’s for help. 🙏🏻

The sandstone buildings need to be restored
@hchapuis23123 күн бұрын
Houseing is needed for the whole of the UK. These buildings could be renovated for people looking for a place to rent. Why just leave it to ruin. This gentleman is still living here, so what is the problem. It costs more money to begin from stratch. When these flats were built, they were built to last, not to just allow these buildings to decay, so that they can be demolished.👎👎Shame.

It's social housing that does this to estates and then they lie to the papers and say its private landlords. There is a over a million abandoned properties owned by social housing across the uk and just a couple hundred thousand private. They use printed money paid by our tax to buy landlords out then they run the areas down and 1 by 1 bully landlords out and private home owners. This drives up rents due to 1 inflation via printing money and 2 artificially playing with supply which increases demand for housing a common feature in history during periods of inflation like Austria in the 20s which was in a population decline and printing money yet had a housing crisis. Social housing is the problem not the cure.

The government can't order all council tenante in the UK to buy their properties.

The STRUCTURE of those sandstone tenements, the SHELL, is SOLID. As it is in all other sandstone tenements in & around Glasgow, which were built around the start of the 20th century. Those tenements in Clune could be REFURBISHED, as many in Glasgow have, to "modernise" these.

Yes. They just demolish old well built old buildings and replace thwm with new build crap quality buildings. Exterior wise they have far greater character than new buildings. A chap living theee still, he's a private tenant (many bought their homes there), he's been condtantly hsrassed by the council to move out for them to bulldoze it, but he will get no money for selling it. They can't surely bulldoze it with him still living in it. Refurb of an old well built building is far better than bulldoze. Far too many old buildings been demolished.
