I actually knew people that did that, could never quite decide if it sounded more like a point of pride or the moment someone at an AA meeting has to tell everyone they're an alcoholic (even though the fact that they're at an AA meeting should be your first hint).

"Selfish I suppose, not to want to spend the rest of my life screaming on the inside" I know it's been almost 6 years since this game was made but this one line alone is still so fucking profound to me just for the fact of how many situations that those feelings could work for and the way Dorian's actor delivered the line was a perfect blend of resentful bitterness and solemn sadness, whole personal quest was one of the best in all of Dragon Age

The writers and VA did a wonderful job on Dorian, you can hear the concealed pain and resentment in both the words he says and the way he says them. His arc is as lovely as it is honest and heartbreaking and I especially appreciated that while his sexuality was a big part of his arc, it wasn't ALL that he was - he'd have been a brilliant and compelling character even if he was straight. I wish more fictions had more characters who showed the pain and complexity of his story arc associated with his sexuality AND still allowed the character to be more than "The gay one".

At 7:17 he's just so angry but then you can feel the pain when he says "You tried to change me." Damn good voice acting, always love it when you can feel what the character is feeling simply through a line of dialogue.

Im not gonna lie, when he says "You tried to change me" it my heart broke. Im not gay, but my sister is & when our dad found out he said some not so nice things to her. She spent the next 2 days crying, I argued with dad about it & we havent spoken since. Hearing him say that just makes me feel like I want to protect him like a little brother. Amazing writing & even better voice acting. Dorian is definitely my Inquisiter's best friend & he'd stand up for any day of the week against anyone.

Under normal circumstances, I would not insist that he give his father a chance to speak. However, I do ultimately believe that things work out for the best if he does give him that chance. There's this short story, written by Dorian's writer David Gaider, called The Final Conversation. It's a story about Dorian's last interaction with his father before taking over his position as Magister. It's such a wonderful story, but not one I can see happening if Dorian and his father don't have that talk here.

Some people have thick eyelashes it looks like there's eyeliner. Sometimes it's just skin pigmentation. That being said, I think that is left for the player to take it as he/she believes.

This whole entire questline was dumb. Dorrian was a great character and had a lot of depth. Then we get a "Daddy Teh Gah Issues" quest. it was so cliched I eye-rolled through the entire quest. Dorian was my main bud in DA:I. Too bad he didn't have a good personal quest.

i feel like calling it cliched is a bit harsh. i mean, the cutscene could have been written better, watching it again it's very... one-sided, with dorian just yelling at his dad. but most media would have him reach some sort of closure, or end with a resolute "this abuser is an irredeemable pos who gets what they deserve." the way this quest line has neither of these things is a huge break from the norm.

This also doesn't just come down Dorian being gay and his father not accepting it, it's also about Dorian's struggle growing up in a society that understands nothing less than being perfect (their version of perfect, anyway) all the time while Dorian himself wants none of it. It offers us a look at someone who grew up in Tevinter but didn't take on any of its backward teachings, instead choosing to be true to himself and what he believes in This was a very personal quest for Dorian, much more personal than anything about his love of books or alcohol, hence why these kinds of quests are called "personal quests" because they often take us deeper into who these characters really are at their core

This was an important issue for him because it was his reason for leaving his homeland. Plus, he does have Daddy issues even if you want to pretend he doesn't. He loves his father and desperately wants his approval. But, as most children who don't get that, they do usually strike out and try to embarrass their parents as much as possible in order to get even. Dorian did his fair share of creating scandals whenever he could, getting thrown out of various Circles of Magi in the process and even ending up in a rather sticky situation which is where Alexius found him and took him in as his apprentice. Dorian is 30 years old at this point and still resorts to getting drunk until he passes out or end up in someone's bed for the night. That sort of behavior isn't very inducive to the idea of living a happy life. It's more indicative of someone who's flirting with self-destructive habits and self-loathing. The way he reacts when a partner suggests a more exclusive relationship, one based on something more than just carnal pleasures shows how scared he is to actually be in a serious relationship. Cole hints at that when he comments on Dorian's relationship with the Inquisitior... "Will he want me after?" And Dorian happily answers "But he did!" He's still growing up from the rebellious teen that he was in Tevinter, unlike Sera who flat-out refuses to grow one damn bit.
