Dorian. The man knows how to make an entrance.

I feel like the whole Haven sequence was written with Cole in mind. It's a badass entrance, but it's kinda funny to see Dorian be so quick to help Chancellor Roderick. Also, to picture him running through the mountains trying to get to Haven before the army in that outfit. I imagine Cole just kinda... Teleports?

Dorian, the entire time: First, camping! Camping! Oh, and not just anywhere but in Ferelden of all places! The outdoors, with all this humidity and cold and snow and bugs- simply barbaric! And now I'm running and falling flat on my ass in snow so I can warn these people about The Elder One and his entourage of furious fiery mages. Oh, and did I forget to mention the Venatori? How delightful! (Falls again) Vishante Kaffas! Enemies: .. Do we... wait for him to finish or... do we... put him out of his misery? Enemies: Mnm... no no, let him live, he's amusing.

***** Well, it is mentioned that the other magisters do live. Of the 7 magisters for each of the Old Gods, three were mentioned to exist together, until they fought: one ate the other and the other ran away. This is a codex entry in Inquisition. He is dead. That leaves 6 magisters. One is Cory. Dumat was the first archdemon, with a Blight that lasted 200 years and is considered the most powerful, likely b/c he came first. That leaves 5 magisters. The Architect is widely believed to be a magister. Like Cory, his hat is a part of his head. He can't remove it. That leaves potentially 4 magisters. There are two sleeping dragons, so perhaps two of the magisters are out there looking for their dragons? And we have two/three unaccounted for :( Cory definitely should not have been recycled, but what are you going do. Like ME2's DLC Arrival, we were getting acquainted with our enemy.
@sushiseru9 жыл бұрын
***** "his underlings failed him" ? No... they didn't. If you played Leviathan, you realize this is a program. It was going to happen regardless. Cory is hardly incompetent. The Inquisition was just that good.
@sushiseru9 жыл бұрын
***** His ritual was interrupted by the Inquisitor. His army was lost at Haven, due to the Inquisitor. His demon army was lost due to the Inquisitor. In Orlais, his assassin fails or succeeds due to the Inquisitor. He fails to take the Well of Sorrows due to the Inquisitor. Do you see where I am going with this? The Reapers "failed" due to the intervention of Shepard. I can keep going -_-
@Tetricus579 жыл бұрын
***** Except Cory does win without the Inquisitor. That was the entire plotline when you sided with the mages. The Inquisitor is sent forward in time by only one year, and Corypheus controlled Thedas. The Inquisitor was the only thing holding Corypheus back.
@Tetricus579 жыл бұрын
***** Except Cory constantly fails because of one person - The Inquisitor. While the Reapers were certainly more competent than Corypheus, it's wrong to call him incompetent. If anything, just unfortunate.. He's the cliche villain who threatens the world with the cliche hero that stops all of that villain's plots. When that villain is only held back by the hero, then how is he incompetent? Everything Corypheus did would have worked if not for the Inquisitor. Also, the Inquisitor dying is not an official story, but siding with the mages is. It's wrong to dismiss it just because it was prevented from happening. The Inquisitor was still sent through time by only one year, and in that future Thedas was under control of Corypheus. I'm not saying Corpyheus isn't a bad villain. I'm merely saying that he could have ruled the world, if not for the Inquisitor.

I usually do the mage quest instead, but I do think Dorian's entrance here makes more sense than Cole just showing up out of the blue here. I really enjoy the templar quest, but it always feels like the game makes it the asshole choice to choose to side with the templars. They don't really explain that the templars are in as much trouble as they are until you've already chosen the templar quest. All you see is the Lord Seeker "acting weird", even Cassandra's weirded out a bit but not that alarmed.
@user-yk9kh3xu5s3 жыл бұрын
I felt they've kinda went a lazy route with mages' quest for that very reason. The moment you get to the "Tevinter Magister" part, the intrigue is gone, you don't even need Dorian explain it is worse than you think to know he is an asshole. Wish it was more subtle... and I mean "Lord Seeker" overacts too, but you do feel like the initial premise of their quest is exactly what the player thinks it is, only to turn south later.
@abcdefghij337 Жыл бұрын
I remember approaching the Lord Seeker and walked away thinking “Wow what a dick. I’m not asking for his help.”
@bradtorville5526 Жыл бұрын
She's alarmed plenty by the disappearance of her former fellow Seekers, which she was a part of before helping to form the Inquisition. And Lucius was the head of the Seekers. Honestly, if you just go to Redcliffe and only speak with Fiona at the tavern but ignore the warning/note from Felix/Dorian because you believe it to be a trap, choosing the Templars makes much more sense as you'd be following up on a definite lead with a really bizarre Lord Seeker and some genuine concern from Barris who tips you off that they're at Therinfal Redoubt. There are lots of things that are missable in Redcliffe. You can miss speaking with Connor, if he survived you DAO playthrough. And you can speak with several mages who voice their concerns over this new alliance with Tevinter. They just might convince you to go ahead and meet Dorian and Felix at the Chantry. But if you miss speaking with these people, doing Champions of the Just flows more easily and can be a more interesting quest in that you need to keep going back to the main hall in order to help fight the demons streaming in there or you'll risk losing Barris altogether. If alive and well at the end of Champions, he can be given several War Table Operations that can lead to his promotion to Knight-Commander of the Templars, if they are brought in as allies following the quest. Cole's appearance during the quest provides a lot of assistance and turning up afterward in the War Room is fitting as he'd tag along with the Templars traveling to Haven. His appearance in Haven if you side with the Mages still works quite well since he's been with the Templars, knew of the Envy Demon's plan to copy you and since that plan had been thwarted, he knew he had to head to Haven and warn you of what could have happened since you didn't help rescue the Templars and went for the Mages instead. So he really didn't just show up out of the blue. Both he and Dorian knew how important both groups were to the Inquisition and both had their own motivations in trying to secure the Herald's and Inquisition's help.
@sailtheplains8 жыл бұрын

That depends on the choice you had before. If you chose the mages you will meet Dorian way earlier in Redcliffe and he will already be part of your inquisition. If you chose the templars you will meet Cole earlier (I did not play that way myself yet) in the place where you have to go instead of Redcliffe. But be warned, if you chose the templars and meet Dorian later (as it is in the video) it will be quite a bit harder to romance/befriend him. If you wanna know more, I can recommend the dragon age wiki. :)

Yeah, I had never seen his alternate entrance until now because I always choose to make an alliance with the mages. I really love this entrance, and I’m still considering it, because there’s a side to him here to don’t really get to see otherwise, but ... idk. I feel like I miss out on a lot not getting his main story. I don’t like the Templar method as much either lol.
@HairyNippy3 жыл бұрын
@@moody_mayhem_ so, I love the time travel shenanigans in Redcliffe and the extra time you get with him too, but let me try to convince you to try this out, at least once. I reluctantly chose the templars in my last playthrough and honestly? I prefer it ten times over the mages now. Not only is Calpernia a more compelling antagonist than Samson, Dorian's connection with Tevinter and the Venatori as the main antagonists is much deeper and makes a lot of sense as a set-up for his decision to return to his homeland in the end so he can help change it. I felt as if he was more invested in the fight to close the breach because his countrymen were in the way, and that was, in a way, hard for him to accept. I don't get the same feeling from Cole, bless him, because he's a spirit-turned-teenager who has one templar friend who isn't even a templar anymore. Varric and Cassandra are much more invested in the templars than Cole, so he ends up staying on the sidelines, kind of out of place. By doing his quest, you get to understand and connect with Cole better. I ended up romancing Dorian and liking it more with my Dalish warrior (who was just thinking more swords could help close the breach better than over a few dozen mages and that Alexius looks like he could be setting up a trap so let's not go to that chantry anyways) than my mage Trevelyan who was all in for mages since the start. I really liked the conflict and the perspective a templar playthrough grants you because Dorian ends up being a better link between the antagonists and the Inquisition than Cole. You miss out on Fiona tho, that's sad for Alistair bby. :(
@flabbergasted62312 жыл бұрын

What's this about Corypheus never winning? He drove the inquisition from their headquarters, he either enslaves the Templars or the Mages, His followers succeed by proxy in negating an alliance between the INquisition and the Qunari if you let the chargers win. Corypheus doesn't succeed in his long-term goals, but he still presents a hell of a threat. And don't forget it was Corypheus and his followers who ignited the Templar/Mage rebellion in the first place with the abuse of red lyrium.
@user-yk9kh3xu5s3 жыл бұрын
If memory serves, the rebellion started only when it became public knowledge Tranquility is reversable, not even Anders' stunt yeilded much in that regard.
@bradtorville5526 Жыл бұрын
To be honest, Varric and his brother (and Bianca) did more to start the whole damn thing off where the red lyrium was concerned than anyone else. It is possible to win several battles and still lose the war. That's the scenario we have here. Yes, Corypheus successfully attacked Haven but the Herald is the one who actually destroyed it, not the dragon. That was done to spite him and give an opportunity for the survivors to escape. Corypheus went there to retrieve the anchor from the Herald which he failed to do. He then wanted to kill the Herlad, which he again failed to do thanks to the avalanche the Herald triggered. He loses either the mages or the templars but is unable to proceed any further thanks to the actions taken by the Inquisition. If they sided with the mages, they have the Red Templars to contend with but Corypheus' next plan was to assassinate the empress of Orlais and invade with a massive demon army. The assault on Adamant resolved the Grey Warden issue and the demon army, removing both from Corypheus' control. And the Inquisitor's actions at the Winter Palace secured a stable ruler for Orlais and thwarted Corypheus' plans there too. The only step left was the Temple of Mythal and the Well of Sorrows. Either Samson or Calpernia were to act as the "Vessel" for the Well's power and that also was taken from his grasp. That's a lot of losses, not to mention dealing with the Red Templar red lyrium cargo routes in the Emerald Graves, the mine at Sahrnia in Emprise du Lion and Samson's armor at the Shrine of Dumat. For Calpernia's side, investigating her dealings with the slave merchant and former slaves she had bought and freed led to information regarding the Shrine of Dumat and what Corypheus was keeping secret from her. Going there revealed his plan to bind and control Calpernia once she drank from the Well of Sorrows. Loss after loss after loss.
