I've been watching quite a few races this year and find it far more interesting and competitive than the past two F1 seasons. I have time for both but for me F1 is struggling. Cracking video 👍

@@Clangokkuner I'm 50 and have been watching F1 for most of my life and you are correct. I just feel either my taste has changed or something is even more off with F1 than before. Inconsistent interpretation of the rules doesn't help and also the lack of likable characters is also part of it. The racing itself hasn't changed much however some of the circuits are poor. At least there are other options out there.

@@ic2433 different series like indycar and NASCAR having absolutely atrocious track selection or being needlessly difficult to watch contribute to them not really challenging F1 imo. I just choose to see it as it is and enjoy it for the engineering spectacle.

I know Scott is the master but how come the fuel saving strategy couldn't be done on the 2 Andretti cars, surely it was the only way to work back up the field, especially when sat in Sting Ray Robb's draft for a whole stint... is it car or driver, could it be CNR had lower downforce meaning less drag for fuel saving? Really want to know these type of things when de-briefing races

Thanks for the video. I love the cameras on the race cars now. I have been a fan of INDYCAR since the 80’s. The only race that I could watch back the was the 500 and I would have to do all the yard work and other chores for the weekend done on Saturday. I just wish home sim-racing could pull the gforces that a real car can create.

Shame the race both started and ended for you the way it did. Andretti really needs to get on form - technical issues are beyond their control, but they've made some bad strategy calls numerous times and under-fuelled both you and Colton several times this season. These are mistakes such a mature team shouldn't be making.

Only on road courses do they have less downforce. On ovals, they have a lot more downforce than Formula 1, hence the faster speeds and how they're much more difficult to steer than on road courses.

Indycar fans: Old fan of Grosjean (or "Big John") from the F1 era, is he doing well in the sport? Or is he doing badly in a good car? I'm only watching from clips so i'd be interested to hear the opinions of older fans. Basically i want to know if he was expected to have more success by this point than he has had, or if his job is in danger at the team. In f1 if you're on your third year in a top team without a win, your job is in danger.

Romain is doing ok this year he scored podiums at Long Beach and Barber. He probably would've won at Barber if it wasn't for an untimely yellow giving the advantage to Scott McLaughlin. However, Grosjean has made errors this year at the Indy 500 and Detroit which caused him to retire. Andretti as a team is being outshone by Ganassi and Penske

I believe Romain stays with Andrett for another year. He's doing better this year than last year, also better then Herta this year. Could have won at st Petersburg if not for that dive bomb from McCloughan, could have challenged for the win at long beach against Kirkwood but to play it safe, because Andretti drivers couldn't finish a race at that point, I believe Andretti didn't want his drivers fighting and possibly taking each other out. With less then 10 laps to go, Romain caught Kirkwood, but just stayed in 2nd. At the end of the race Romain still had alot of push to pass left. Kirkwood 1st, Grosjean 2nd, Herta 4th. Then at Alabama, late in the race while Romain leading after a great pass on McCloughan, on Grosjean's last pitstop on his screen showed alot of push to pass remaining. Then it mysteriously disappeared and he couldn't defend against McCloughan. There was no explanation. But still finished on the podium. Romain is a talented driver. Andretti isn't as good as Penske and Ganasi. With McClaren and Rahal also stepping up, it's not easy to get a win with all the competition in indycars. In Grosjean's first year in indycars, he was with a team that was considered as a low level team, Dale Coin racing. Romain did excellent with them getting a pole and a few podiums. If Andretti releases Grosjean, especially if Andretti goes to f1in 2025 taking Herta, it would be a big mistake. Other drivers like Polou and Oward probably leaving for f1 too. Another team will pick up Grosjean. My guess is McClaren.

his drive is not stable, he still hasnt received a contract for the next year, his performances can only be described as interesting, he is in an andretti which is probably the 4th fastest car (in the same category as arrow mclaren and a category below penske and chip ganassi) he had an impressive start of the sesaon where he was legit the fastest driver on the grid for the first 5 races or so, but only had 2 podiums to back it up with a spin on the penultimate lap in texas while 4th and a stolen win in st. pete due to mclaughlin crashing him out, since then he hasnt been the greatest but recently started picking up form again, last week he had a chance of a podium and maybe a win in nashville but finished 6th due to a bad strategy, this week he qualified 6th and got caught up in a lap 1 incident and following another bad andretti startegy fuelled in with another terrible 10 second pitstop (he had one in nashville already) he was only about to get 14th until his car decided to die on the last lap, all in all he has been the fastest andretti driver on pure pace (close with krikwood) but a mix of poor luck and his inconsistensy means that he is only 12th in the standings, he definetely deserves a contract for another year at least but you never know whats going to happen as there are many free agents on the market for the next season.

Judging by that downshift into turn 4, these cars barely has any downforce? I have 0 IndyCar knowledge.
@dand1585
@dand1585 11 ай бұрын
It’s not like they have 0 downforce but definitely not anything crazy. The formula is meant to make the cars difficult to drive, so no power steering as well. Teams can also change gear ratios (like f1 used to do back in the day) so they’ll be set up for a balanced braking/coast phase midcorner to maximize drive out of the corner.
@amjan
@amjan 11 ай бұрын
They have a lot of downforce, mostly produced by the floor. F1 copied this philosophy from IndyCar for last year's regulation change.
@jonathanj.3695
@jonathanj.3695 11 ай бұрын
They have downforce, but it mostly applies to the straights and shallow curves of the track. On the sharper turns, the drivers have to depend mostly on their gear ratio and brake bias adjustments to maximize their speeds around a corner. It's kind of like Formula 2.
