Try a very small o ring instead of the wire it may wear out but it won't bend

This would be good to bring along in a motorcycle tool kit where space and weight is critical. It would eliminate the need for a dedicated ratchet which is generally heavier than a combination wrench.

Those things are awesome in tight quarters where a regular rachet cant get to. I was first introduced to them 12 years ago at a fire truck repair shop installing a relay junction box under the dash for the lights and sirens on a brush truck.

Hello again Doc Thank you for another Great Video. I brought my original Gearwrench Ratchets Wrenches in either 1997 or 1998. My set came with adapters 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 " drives and a bit holder. Which I have used from time to time. Don't get me wrong, they are handy to have. I just don't see them as everyday use. Again thank you

Yesterday i absolutely would have to need this... With an wrench i couldn't reach and with the ratchet it was to big for the space i had.... I ended up cutting of an long nut to the proper size and welded onto an old wrench... Man do i love when it gets delivered, just ordered 1 of every size 👌

Harbor Freight has a mid-length and a longer ratcheting wrench that has a flex-head with 1/4" and 3/8" socket ends. They are quite thin and come in incredibly handy. I appreciate your videos! Thanks.

The equivalent Hazet 4piece kit is 606/4SPC has all adapters 1/4 3/8 1/2" and a hex adapter, it has rubber rings including spare ones, about 33eur.

Here in the UK Halfords have three sizes of those handy spinners in their socket sets. They’re very useful.

Stahlwillie makes a 1/4" female and 1/2" male adapter... If you had that adapter it would really be a game changer for your overland kit eleminating the need for a 3/8 drive in my opinion. Since you could use the 1/2" for 17mm+, I would keep a 15mm socket and wrench to compliment the 13mm for aftermarket purposes. ..... BTW I recently purchased the adamas and I love it! I got some 3000 grit sand paper to polish up the scales. I put up a video showing a ZT 562 and I have been modding that knife, I found a knife maker that does regrinds and he gave it a really nice flat grind, Stassa23 has an Adamas that he sent to the same person for a hollow grind and it turned out really really good which is what triggered me to buy the knife without hesitation so I can have that done making it into a custom grinded knife by a well known knife maker in the edc community.

I have a Gearwrench set of those. There is 1/2, 3/8, and 1/4" in the set plus a 1/4 bit adapter (6 pieces in the set). They use rubber o-rings instead of the metal ring. I'm not sure if they still make them, but I bet the set was cheaper than that one item from Gedore. BTW, I've had them for probably 10 years and I don't think I've ever use any one of them besides messing with them.

I have the GearWrech set a well as the Sears block set that you chan slip the wrench over ,both I use a couple times a month for tight spaces on Boom lifts. I can see why the one's made in Germany are a touch smaller, Deutz, 2.9-3.6 ,Volkswagen have very tight tolerances! (Experience check) I purchased the GearWrench set 8-19 mm Locking flexHead for $75.00 off the Snapon truck!

One way to get a tighter fit on the 13mm hex is to use a 1/2” spanner/wrench. .500” = 12.70mm

I preferred to use a half on 13s anyways since the tolerance on cheap tools is so bad, it fits very snug and refined like a high quality wrench on it, and 13mm is an extremely common size anyways

I bought my first metric wrench 13mm because the 1/2 was a little loose because of rust eating away at the metal. Still got it Blackhawk 13mm. The neighborhood auto parts guy turned me to metric. Then I got 1960 VW BEETLE and re built my first engine and made it a Baja narrow eye . .miss those good old days but never expected to rive another cold war

The Hazet ones use little rubber o-rings. Maybe better than the metal wire? No idea, I have never actually used mine.

have you tried that adapter with a 1/2" wrench? it's slightly smaller than 13mm and could reduce the play you describe around 2min into the video.

10, 13 & 17 are indeed the most common sizes to carry for automotive work here in metric land (metric land being the 96% of the world that is outside the USA!). Unless that is you are working on the Mazda Miata which has no 13mm head bolts - they are either 12 or 14 as 13 is considered unlucky in Japanese culture. 18mm was rare but has become more common in recent years so the normal set to carry now are 7-19 then 22, 24 and 27.

Yeah, its a European thing, Japanese tend to use 12mm hex rather than the 'exact for the job' 13mm and then jump up to 14mm. It's good to have a Japanese car again after VW less tool count pulled out for 'simple' jobs 😉

As a UK Automotive engineer, I know that 13,15 and 17mm “wrenches” correspond to the three most widely used ISO threads in Automotive, ISO m8,m10&m12. Even the American automotive industry has adopted the ISO bolt standards. So why wouldn’t you carry at least a 13,15and17mm wrench in your toolkit?

As a US mechanic I’m pretty familiar with many of the OEM fastener tooling sizes and it doesn’t strictly line up with your statement. Toyota typically uses 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 22mm. Ford uses 8, 10, 13, 15, 18, 21, 27mm. You can see by that example that depending on specifically what you drive determines what tooling you should keep in your toolkit. If you have many aftermarket parts, as the presenter mentioned, the number of tools goes up. This is especially troublesome for us in the states because many aftermarket fabricators here use fractional hardware…😑

lol.. Standard M10 bolts use 13mm (AF), so a fairly common size when using metric hardware shop fasteners - the whole world is really metric, where it matters (ok, maybe not Myanmar) ha ha..

its useless, youd be better off with a breaker bar if you want a solid socket back up for impacting or something. Milwaukee offers the wrench on socket functionality built in if thats your goal, no adapter needed, personally never tried to use channel lock pliers on a socket, seems dumb to even try.
