Rollercam and Roperoller: Putting NRS's friction to shame. And the Roperoller is paracord essential!

They are true performers that solve an simple yet essential problem of adjusting and snugging paracord lines. And Rollercam's line of Rollercam straps knocks it out of the park. As a diehard NRS strap fan, I am keenly aware of the pains of the NRS buckles when on the last inch. The friction is unbearable, and dirt and water only make it worse. The Rollercams buckle design, on the other hand, are silky smooth and allow for single-hand snugging.

Wow. We have those NRS straps in the garage and I just thought they were some junk straps that I didn't buy. My GF was a competitive rower I'm talking about she had a $50,000 custom made boat. She gets mad when I call them canoes. I imagine she used these for ties downs. Now it all makes sense.

So I had her watch this but obviously didn't show her my comment. :) She had a shell and her main reason for the NRS straps was you couldn't over tighten them easily. It was carbon fiber so she just wanted it taught. She thought the roller straps would be great for other non precious things like rafts.

This straps are so handy it wouldn't surprise me if NRS sells more straps for non-boating, non-recreational uses than what they are nominally for. I have about $200-300 worth of them that I got for strapping things down in moving trucks, carry a small selection in my EDC work bag and a bunch more under the seat of my vehicle. The list of things they are good for is all but endless. Edit: BTW: the NRS straps I have (which, granted, haven't been out in the weather much) have a lot lower resistance than the one shown here seem to and I've never had enough trouble tightening them to warrant looking for something better .

Dang, i really like that paracord cam. Lots of possibilities there. Also have always used the NRS and Yakima straps for canoes, trips to lumberyard, etc. They can be a pain to cinch up.

i have those nighteyes paracord hooks and they are alright, but these rollercam hooks are far and away a game changer. i have a few different types of tie downs that i use, from paracord with repositionable hooks and friction straps, to ratchet straps and chain binders. i also use the hooks from broken bungee straps on paracord as well. if you run a loop of paracord through the coil eye where the bungee attached and around the hook, they will generally hold position under load, but this gizmo is a far more elegant solution.

I've been sold on RollerCam for my adventure and backcountry motorcycle rides. They are superior for lashing on extra gear, dry bags, etc. I won't use anything else. I found your review when I started looking into the rope cam I saw in one of RollerCam email fliers.

When I use an endless cam strap, it nominally makes sense to hold the buckle and thumb in the cam to make it easier for it to "work smoothly".. Don't worry I have issues with some hold down gear , I recently got a set of lightweight cam-buckle straps (cough, "grunt" ) and if the end was pulled through - ie. "out" all the way - (as it must to thread around many rack bars or through a tie-down ring), it "basically" wasn't possible to rethread the free end back through the cam-slit without tools (even after flaming the beautiful soft PP strap... Noting that cam-straps are really for getting "just snug" for (as you mentioned) fragile loads like surfboards, kayaks and canoes (against a foam or neoprene cradle cushion) - they aren't ratchet straps - those have - you know, ratcheting bits.. Nice to see different gear coming out (jk)

According to Rollercam's site, the hardware is made from a metal called "Zamak," a Zinc based alloy that contains aluminum, magnesium and copper; aka, pot metal. It's not considered to be actual stainless steel. It does produce a surface corrosion over time.

If you like that rollercam thing, you might try the Progrip Better than Bungee. I use them for the front and rear tag lines on my kayaks on the roof.

G'day from Australia. I like the form factor of the rollcam, but hate how you have to thread the end of the line through it. On the other hand there is a product called 'tite tie' which is two s hook type plates that work together to self lock on a line.... It works with all different sizes and types of rope, even ratchet strap ribbon if your old ratchet cam broke. So quite versatile. And it's the only self locking cam/ tie down device that you don't have to thread the end of a line through it..... as far as I can find. But... they aren't exactly pocket able like the rollcam. So I wish I could get the tite tie in a mini version.

NRS is amazing. I have two pairs of their NRS Boundary Boots for fishing and the NRS Freestyle Wetshoe when I take my Kayak out. I also used the NRS Straps to strap down my Kayak onto my 4Runner.

I think the cam action would work on UHMWPE line, keep in mind that 3mm Amsteel is rated to around 2300 lbs while this Rollercam's rated working load is 35lbs - somewhat of a mismatch.

Thank you for providing this. Anything I would use a rollercam with paracord for… The Rollercam is rated to 35 pounds. That’s between 5% and 10% of what I would need. At 35 pounds I’d be tying things up with string from a supermarket…. I couldn’t use a rollercam with anything that has a wind load, hammocks, attaching to a pack… What do you do with a cam that is constrained to

I may be wrong… but that looks like an Ancra buckle on your NRS strap, not an NRS buckle. Is that a homemade strap? The old Ancra buckles have a lot longer teeth making it harder to pull the strap through with two fingers. Not as usable or strong as the NRS can buckle

all good untill ya driving down the m1 doing 70mph and yav got a fridge or somet held down buy this this new device and somet hits the buckle and wirhin a split second the strap has lovly gone easy off the roller and now your fridge is going through the air at 70mph lol..them strqps are stiff so that iff somet happens they hang on..i would not trust this new thing or any new thing ..stuff now days is made 2 break within a certain time or fail or wear down so you need more wnd more use stuff from 30 years ago build ya own stuff..even the fact ya saying it has a crass roller that roller that brass roller is holding that fridge down if that brass snapps whifh bras dus same as copper its very very soft compqird 2 steal or s steal prob softer than ally cos ally bends and stuff brass snapps alot of the time

Only 35lb working load / 150lb fail load on the rope-roller; 350lb working load on the strap roller, Just too little! Normal 11 strand paracord rated at 800-1000lbs and 1” ratchet straps will hold 1500-2000lbs. Sorry 350lbs is not enough to trust..

Thanks for your comment. Rollercams have a huge safety factor so the working load limit is easily one-third of the actual anticipated strength of the system. In a perfect world, one could advertise the laboratory breaking strength, but when dirty, wet, sun bleached, twisted, bent over edges, minor cuts, aged, and heavily used, the 350 or whatever it is, is a realistic and safety-oriented working load. I have had NRS straps begin to rip where nicked when stressed. I am a fairly picky and OCD loadmaster so when considering the anticipated load under actual working/driving conditions, I only use quality straps, and rarely less than two. I see tons of straps, bunjis and ratchet straps on the shoulder of the highway. Many broke at the junctions and stitching, with the ratchet straps gaining length (through slip, slop or stretch) only of unhook and drop off. In my recreational use if I need an honest 500lbs stress on a load, I'd be more worried about the strap digging into the item or the tiedown points or rack breaking off than I would of the strap breaking.

Some of these are made overseas, that's understandable. No it's not! I was 💯 percent on board with this product right up until that. Sadly, I will not be purchasing them because of that. Be American, buy American! China has flooded our markets and buying American is difficult.
