I love this thing in aviation and fits very well inside the foam cut outs

I’ve been an aircraft mechanic for 24 years. I remember using speed handles when I first started working on aircraft, now we just use cordless drills (screwdriver) or a ratchet. Great video though.

You can open up the better classic hard handle ratcheting screwdriver and remove a c clip so it can accept these attachments.

Ohhhhh really? That’s cool. I’d like to try that

I used to works as an aircraft mechanic back in 99. The amount of torque and pressure i could put on a screw with speed handles was crazy lol.

I have the Snap-On angle adjust driver and a Gearwrench set with different heads. I always thought they came out of the same factory.

I have an old Craftsman T-handle 1/4 socket drive with a sliding collar on it that I find much nicer than a speed handle for stuff where I want to do things by hand to be sure I don't over tighten things.

I also have the Snap-on non-conductive shank and the set of shanks that includes #1, #2, 1/4, and 3/8 flat in a tray. They still sell the non-conductive, but don’t make the shank set anymore. I think I bought them in the late 90’s.

I use speeders for small engine work, there's just not enough fasteners to justify having a cordless battery tool.

you can make the hard handle interchangeable by taking it apart and removing a internal clip off the shaft. i have done it works great to use diffrent shafts. theres a video out there on it

I’m going to have to do this

I have that multi-positioning, ratcheting screwdriver and I have mixed feelings about it. I also accidentally hit that little switch that unlocks the handle positions which is very annoying. I find that I bump the direction switch occasionally as well, which is also annoying. I think the bit storage in the handle is terrible compared to other designs out there as I HATE dumping the bits out to find the one I want. I also find the bit retention at the end is meh. More I type this out the more I realize I just don't really like it and convinced myself I did since it was so expensive. 😂
@Raeilgunne9 ай бұрын
there should be an offset from the front to the back, so that you can do everything from the handle, but that's just my 2 cents. I have used speed handles on my own work regularly, they're convenient as heck when you need them. Definitely an industrial mechanic or aviation mechanic thing, though, as you almost never need to drive more than a few machine screws at a time otherwise.

That is actually what I did a few months ago. I have a couple of those snap on screwdrivers and i bought the (significantly cheaper) gearwrench shafts on Amazon. I found those shafts to be a hit or miss though. Some would be slightly too big and couldnt fit in the handle. Just letting everyone know. You might have to do a couple reorders/returns
@lastbesttool9 ай бұрын
Good point. It might also be on the Snap On side too. I have one driver handle the GW shafts don’t easily fit in. And the SO square-square only fits one way.
@dimitrisloufakis9169 ай бұрын
@@lastbesttool yes that definitely could be either the handle or the shaft. I have three handles in total but only tested one so I couldn't tell. I know that the shafts that fit the tested handle will also fit the rest, but not sure about the other way around. I returned those thicker shafts and got replacements so I have no way to check now.

This ^ But I want a short 1/4" speed handle. Do they even exist? Doesn't have to be a male square / male square ends, like the Snap On one demonstrated here by Doc. Just a normal speed handle with a shorter shaft. There was a Snap-On K4-C short produced in 1927 but that was 1/2 drive. I am using an old brace hand drill, equipped with a Wera Rapitdaptor, to drive screws: faster than a ratchet driver but heavy. Hence why I would like to try with a short speed handle.

Quick question, is the part/model number different for the drivers with or without interchangeable shafts? I can’t find anything about that on google and I want to make sure I order the right ones. My SO guy didn’t have any on the truck so I had to settle for a hard handle for now
I wish Snap On would make wobble end extensions for the screwdriver handles.

As you mention, we use speeder handles in aviation, but even then I'm not sure I see the utility of having it on a ratchet. Must be the reason why they only make a very small amount of them.
