X-Carve Upgrade | Full Step-by-Step Instructions for the 2021 Upgrade from Inventables.

You are my new hero. Bought my upgrade recently for my 1000x1000 like yours. Watched your entire video before attempting the upgrade. Your simple attention to detail was PERFECT. I literally opened your video and started upgrade. Was able to pause/start/pause/start numerous time to keep up. It is just awesome, that you presented the installation as a "regular guy" so I could follow along, as I did the install. Those side plastic\acrylic panels (8 of them with 6 screws each!!!) were the biggest pain in my butt ever. On, off, on, off to get them lined up. Slow but sure I finally got them all installed. Like you, I broke my Z-Probe barrel connector, pretty much right after I bought the machine. Inventables sent me a new one, and it too broke soon after. I just removed the barrel connector housing, and zip-tied the end of the probe harness to the Z-Probe holder, and it has worked fine since. The only thing now, as you are probably aware is there is no more going into the GRBL settings to modify code. Inventables created a "upgraded machine" that houses all of the new settings. I just had to turn on my unit, wait till the light turned green, selected the new "upgraded machine" (you need to rename it after selecting it, as it only says "X-Carve 1000") and installed it. I was nervous about deleting the original X-Carve, but Inventables directions said to delete the old machine so there is no confusion with the drivers/software. Once I tested the "upgraded machine" and was comfortable with it, I apprehensibly deleted the original machine with no issues. 4 hours overall was probably correct, though I spread mine out over 4 days, so I did not loose focus/patience. That's the good thing about being older, and having patience, I can stop when I want, then restart at any time, which is exactly what I did. So again, THANKS for a simple to understand "regular guy" video that made the upgrade easier. 100% recommend this video to anyone that is going to upgrade their machine as you (and I) did.

Thank you for this video! I bought the 1000mm kit plus full upgrade kit and have been having a time to do the whole assembly. I was stuck on fishing the 9mm belt through the z axis until I saw how you did yours. Brilliant! I am going to remove the upgraded stepper motor and run the belt as you did here. Looks like it should be vey doable. Thank you again for your video. Inventables should take your method and include it on their instructions! Mike

Sorry, I know this video is 2 years old now. Its a fantastic explanation on the upgrade. I just did the upgrade to my machine and I have 1 question.........When you set the new longer z-axis, did you install it flush with the bottom of the mount? I mounted mine flush and it doesnt appear that it will touch the wood to carve. Seems like maybe it should be installed about an inch or so below the bracket.I hope you see this.

Thanks so much for the video. I bought my machine already assembled, so I was a little nervous breaking it down, but your video and detail set me at ease. I watched a couple times prior to doing my upgrade and referenced it several times during the rebuild. I am experiencing the same noise/rough sound with my Z axis, so I uninstalled and reinstalled. Seems to all be working fine, just sounds rough on the slower movements(especially Probing) any thoughts? Thanks again for any awesomely detailed video.

Have a question, went int0 machine settings and in the console I punched in a couple of wrong numbers. Instead of $130=750.00, I have 790. How can I change??

I think you can just re-enter the correct setting and it will overwrite the old setting. If you scroll to the button you can confirm if the new setting was saved. Hope that helps. Thanks again for watching!

For the love of God, do the waste board FIRST if you haven't already done the rest of the upgrade. I learned the hard way. You have to take half the machine apart to get the new waste board in place.

Great video I too bought the X-Carve 2021 and all the upgrade bundle. Built a table for it and set up my laptop/monitor. Putting the kit together, next I will be doing the side plates and heading toward the gantry etc. This video will help immensely. Sub'd also. Some neat videos.

The keyboard and mouse are just a cheap model from Amazon. I wasn't sure how all of the sawdust would be tolerated so I went cheap to start. The PC is a refurbed Dell OptiPlex 9010 that I bought from amazon. Its not a super powerful computer by any means but it doesn't have to be to run the X-Carve and Easel. It works great and was only $145.00. Thanks a lot for checking out the video!

What is the biggest difference that you noticed with the upgrade. On my stock 1000mm xcarve, I get chatter with a .25 bit cutting at .125 at 20ipm. . . . will this help with that. Any changes with accuracy?

The biggest difference is definitely the increased capacity in height on the Z axis. There were many times before when I couldn't carve something because it was too high for the machine. I have noticed that chatter before too, and though I haven't specifically looked for it, I haven't noticed it since the upgrade. The machine is just way stiffer all around. Only once on the original machine did I experience lost steps during a job, and that was because I let so much epoxy build up on the rails during the cut. I don't think that would happen with this setup now though. the new belts, stepper motors and pulleys are much more robust. I just did my upgrade last night I haven’t turned it on yet, question for you. I have the same opt laser, did you have to modify and settings for that with the gerble stuff.

Great question. I don't think so as the Laser uses the same settings to move the different axis' and the settings that we changed for the laser are different than the ones changed for the X-Carve upgrade. Let me know what you find when you give it a try. I actually haven't used my laser since I did the XC upgrade.

I dont know if anyone has said this but with the amount of belting they send with this upgrade instead of 3 equal pieces you can actually get 4 if you measure right. I have the 750mm and I was able to get 4 pieces. so now i have a spare. I dont know if this will happen for 1000mm. another note is that once you connect to easel setting up a new machine will change all the grbl settings for you

great video, I went a minute or two at ta time and paused while doing the next step and mine is all put together. tomorrow ill go through the software. im wondering if you uninstall the machine and reinstall and the new style if you have to put the codes in the inspector? if anyone knows let me no. also I just bought the machine used and having trouble with it moving during bit changes and ruining my carve, does anyone no a good vid to correct this?

Good question. I think Easel now has settings built in if you choose the new upgrade.
