Brent Hoberman is an entrepreneur and investor. He founded lastminute.com and made.com, both of which went on to be valued at 1 billion dollars. Being born in South Africa, from a Jewish family and moving to England to attend boarding school, Brent identifies being an immigrant and an outsider as a driving force in his work. He shares with Jake and Damian how he used his misfit status to create his own path, and now actively looks for outsiders and mavericks to work alongside him.
They discuss how to build credibility as an entrepreneur and why this is so important. Brent doesn’t believe that anyone can be an entrepreneur, he reveals the traits and skills he looks for in young employees. After over 20 years of managing people and founding businesses, Brent shares the secret to finding the right employees, how to create and maintain a dynamic culture and how to find the benefit in controversy.

Get young people in, use their talent and energy and give them no work/life balance and probably pay them less for the opportunity. Good business, no wonder he was so successful 😂😂😂

Great podcast again guys. Worth pointing out for some viewers it might be worth explaining acronyms or saying the phrase in full e.g. IPO, ROI

Really enjoyed this, I would ask the question though on the start of an entrepreneurial career, Brent had more of an advantage in that he had a better education than say a young guy from a council estate, he went to private school then a top university, the opportunities are multiplied greatly with a good start,(I know there are many working class success stories) I hope people don't see this post as negative , I very much admire this man, but it does beg the question how much of anyone's success is down to background and opportunity or lack of, that's not to say Brent didn't work hard, his current status is proof of that endeavour, I didn't hear much on luck though, everyone needs some luck, pls don't post a reply with the the old chestnut that you make your own luck, I wish that were the case, the world is littered with hard working triers who were plainly unlucky, anyway, well done brent.

It took a long time, but eventually, "curiosity" rose to the surface. It is the founding element. Really enjoyed the conversation. Thank you 🙏
