Idk, ppl react to things differently, I feel like Shane might just be really shaken by some of the accusations... I think THESE DAYS he's the type to try to be a very 'positive' person and less like outrageous/vitriolic as he used to be with his old humor... Problem with that is 'positive' people aren't good at defending themselves... As a bit of a side note, I feel like some of the most 'positive' people are like people who have skeletons in their closet... Like they have either 1. Reformed themselves after being a total selfish asshole at one point. They probably will admit they were a selfish asshole as part of being reformed. OR 2. Another type of super 'positive' person is someone who is secretly depressed... Depressed people are like beacons of joy to those around them since they can often do a really good job of hiding they are depressed. That or perhaps they are trying to do good despite how bad the world is... Stuff like this makes me kind of suspicious (not in a bad way rlly) of people who are just like extremely positive... I feel like I've encountered some IRL and online and based on my anecdotal experiences it usually turns out they are the reformed asshole or the depressed... Maybe even both, who knows... And I often hate their optimism, sometimes they'll criticize pessimistic/pragmatic people (especially the reformed asshole) like myself and their criticisms will be stupidly idealistic and what not... BUT at the same time in spite of that I feel like I'm drawn to and respecting of these people's optimism... They're often deluded, but it's amazing that they can be and perhaps not necessarily always a bad thing...

That's a bit of a meandering last half 😂, But I never understood the backlash he received, and after all this time, the conclusion I came to, was that it was the effect of migrating to a much more left leaning and progressive audience, and a hyper critical one like the makeup guru space on youtube. It's a known cesspool of toxicity, and it seems like the moment he grew an audience over there, it was only a question of time until he had to make his nth apology video, but if he'd just pulled through and posted more stuff, enduring the toxicity of the makeup audience, then I feel like he'd just lose a couple tens of thousands of viewers, but wouldn't really be affected, but because he's rich as fuck, I don't think he even bothered. Just took it as an opportunity for a break, but then that break is what ended up killing his reputation, and he became a nervous wreck after that, and that snowballed. The reason why depressed people can be some of the most optimistic people around, is because they're intimately familiar with how pessimism feels, and they're deathly afraid that it'll shine through their fragile outward appearance of optimism, and shatter the illusion they're trying to build, so they're aggressively positive. I think the reformed asshole stereotype is just something you see in storytelling, because humans as a whole are rather balanced, with only a couple metrics that are skewed significantly, and it's really rare for someone to start to exhibit actually opposite behavior, unless it's forced. If the assholish behavior you're mentioning stems from an outlash that originates in trauma, and that the exterior functions as a coping mechanism, then it's not impossible, that they mellow out as they either age, grow up or start dealing with the trauma in a professional setting, but they're not likely to do 180 flip.

There's Shane Dawson, there's iDubbz who I don't watch but months ago he was being talked about because he was calling all his old work horrible and saying he was an asshole but no more, and then there is also this person 'Robert Moran' ('Rawb' on Twitch) who you probably don't know since they're not super popular but he notably made "Jimmy The World of Warcraft Story" which you'd get if you were into WoW... Similarly he also made "Unforgotten Realms" which has some jokes that are not very politically correct anymore... And he has talked about how in his past he was an asshole in that he was saying awful things and even tricking people with a fake Neopets website to steal their logins and make money off of their accounts... And yeah, all 3 of these people basically followed the same trend of making edgy content ages ago that perhaps had some slurs and what not and perhaps doing other terrible things... Basically being super toxic online to other people... And then gradually they end up apologizing for their past content and denouncing it as wrong and kinda virtue signaling about how they're a better person now and maybe they also criticize the people who enjoyed that old toxic content and would want to see more of it... There's a bit of variability but that's basically the trend for a lot of people who were edgelords in like 2008 KZbin... I don't see the reformed asshole though happen in real life though so it might be just more of an online thing... After the iDubbz situation I was kinda like "I've seen this sort of arc before..."
