It's the exact same line of thinking that Spain, Portugal, Belgium, UK, France, Germany, and many others applied throughout the globe for decades. Whenever they encountered people who didn't live under their interpretation of a nation-state, they didn't consider them as such. The fallacy followed shortly after: if those people were technically 'nothing,' then that piece of land wasn't really theirs. It didn't matter that people had been living there for generations, because in their minds, they had already rationalized that the land was free real estate for them to take

"Never Again!" in the second interpretation, namely: that never again should such horrors like the Holocaust to befall *anyone, anywhere around the globe.* Frankly, that is the *only* legitimate interpretation of that phrase. Anyone saying that it only means "never again should someone like the Holocaust happen to Jewish people" is betraying the very concept of it. @@slashb7836”Valid criticism” is fine, Israeli citizens are critical of the Israeli government more than anyone else. They have the right to do so. The issue starts when an unfair “golden standard” is reserved for Israel that apparently doesn’t apply elsewhere. The lands of Judea and Samaria are now known as the “West Bank,” which refers to West of the Jordan River - a name given to the territory after the illegal Jordanian annexation of it in 1950, followed by Jewish ethnic cleansing, destruction of synagogues, a large influence of Palestinian-Arab refugees (following the war started by the Arab League and championed by the Nazi-collaborating Palestinian Grand Mufti), and then Jordan citizenship was applied to Palestinians. None of that was mentioned in this segment. The very idea of the Fourth Geneva Convention is to maintain the pre-existing sociopolitical status of the land until a mutual agreement can be made. Before 1967, the land was illegally annexed by Jordan. Before that, it was under British Mandate. One could argue that the Arabs were offered the “West Bank” per the UN Partition Plan. They rejected this outright (as regretted by Arafat.) Of course, the Palestinians have additionally rejected sovereignty on numerous occasions - 2000 Camp David Summit, 2001 Taba Summit, 2008 Olmert Plan, and the Kerry Initiative, to name a few. Not to mention that the PLO agreed to full Israeli military and planning control over Zone C per Oslo Accords (which didn’t mention settlements once.)

And let me be clear on that: No, it isn't! On the other hand, what Netanjahu's government does is anti-human. There is no genocide happening neither in GAZA nor in the westbank. The westbank has a birth rates of 2,7 children per woman and there are about 2,5 million Palestinians in the Westbank now a little less than in GAZA - so no GENOCIDE by any means. They need the children to feed the terror teams I suppose. Terror that is raining down on Israel since forever when all Israel ever wanted was good neighborly relations. They even have this in their founding document. Unlike HAMAS - I guess by now everybody knows what the HAMAS charta says. All the numbers of victims in GAZA come from HAMAS and cannot be trusted and the hostages are still not free. Netanyahu is a terrible corrupt politician but this war is just and is a fight for ISRAELS survival. The settlements are not a breach of international law.........

As another German, I'm shocked to realize that so many Germans seem to have learned the wrong lesson from our history. Many seem to have just internalized that we were the bad guys and because of that we need to defend Israel at all costs to show the (western) world that we are now the good guys. People like to see the world in black and white. They like to see themselves on the side of good. So everybody who opposes Israel is evil and deserves to be oppressed and even their destruction is justified. Many don't see the palestinians as people. They see them all as terrorists, which makes it easier to defend Israel. They like to believe that Israeli's are righteous, therefore can't do any wrong, because their people used to be victims of Nazi Germany. Because of that they are given a blank check to do as they please. And anybody who dares even critisize them is silenced with the knockout argument "anti-semite". They don't care if the criticism is unjust or just. They won't allow any criticism, they'll defend Israel even when they kill thousands of children. It's not even really about the Jews, it's really about siding with those you were taught to side with no matter what. We were made to believe that Israel is one of us, one we have an obligation to defend no matter what, to make up for our history. It's so ironic, Germans are so afraid to be called anti-semites or Nazis, that they've become blind to Israel having turned into a fascist nation. The real lesson to be learned from the holocaust was that fascism of no kind should ever be tolerated again. Not even the former victims of the Nazis should get the right to become like them and should be opposed if they do. All that said, people who attack random Jews who have nothing to do with what Israel does are not to be tolerated either. Those people don't help the cause of palestinians. The people who now use the opportunity to let their hatred of Jews loose, they are no better than those who side with Israel. You all need to see that there are people on both sides. Try to see people as people for once. Both sides have good and bad people, because in the they are all just people. This cycle of hatred needs to be stopped.

@@thinkbeforeyoutype7106 Palestine won't accept liberation or statehood or a two state solution as long as Israel exists. They would rather stay in the situation that they are in than have to recognize Israel. Their intense sociopathic hatred of the Jewish people prevents them from thinking of anything other than destroying Israel. They even say so in the very first paragraph of their constitution. Palestine and Hamas wish they could genocide Israel but they don't have the means. Israel has the means but there are still a lot of Palestinians living. It begs the question who's genociding who? Still I've yet to hear anyone protest the oppression of women in Palestine and pretty much every other Arab Muslim country. Oppression isn't even the right word for that, oppression is a gross understatement. Not one person has mentioned that, except Bill Maher.

3:12, is when John O. starts his history monologue from the moment Israel was founded n started their war of independence, that concluded on the 6 day war. Where "THEY TOKE THIER LAND BACK" and some more from Egypt n Jordan that they later give back with a Peace Treaty (that they have abided by since then). Palestinian people were the one living on Jewish people land that was taken from them by the Romans, In the early 2nd century CE, the Roman province of Judaea was renamed Syria Palaestina ("Palestinian Syria"). Israel became legitimize by their Independence on 14 May 1948, while Palestine has not, n since then Israel after the war has coexisted with the Palestinians that were living on the Jewish people land. There are more Palestinians living in harmony with Israeli people, been part of their government, while 1/3 of Palestinians do to Religious believe and heat-treat towards Israel outright calling for the death of all Israelis n the Palestinians that support them. With the implementation of the plan, IDF installations and forces were removed and over 9000 Israeli citizens living in 25 settlements were evicted. By 22 September 2005, Israel's withdrawal from the entire Gaza Strip to the 1967 Green Line, and the eviction of the four settlements in Samaria, was completed. Israel after been force by the USA for peace chose to give Gaza to Palestinians for them to run n they voted for HAMAS a terrorist's organization branched from ISIS leaders that have been living inside Gaze for years causing more attacks n violence in the area. As of today the Gaza Strip is governed by the Hamas Terrorist Group that was elected on 2016 after a strong misleading campaign of misinformation n lies about their beliefs that they said has changed to a more moderate one that were all lies. Soon the majority over 60%-70% of Palestinian people disagree with the actions n beliefs of their government but were not capable n Hamas remains in power on the Gaza Strip were only Islamic Palestinians (40% of all residents are children) n 0 (zero) Judaims Israeli people live or reside. While on the Israeli side is been governed by a leaders that despite n also hate the Palestinian people and every USA President since Bill Clinton has said that after many meetings, peace talks, n agreements signed they all believe they don’t want peace n seen peaceful agreement were forced on them. Also like on the Gaza N West Bank the residents n citizens of Israel disapprove of their own government with a 65%-75% of them wanting to remove them from power but after multiple close election they haven’t been able to do it. Specially unlike Palestinians controlled lands Israeli people are welcome of their Palestinians people with nearly 2 million of Palestinians (20% of the residents n citizens) living on Israeli controlled land together n in peace not counting the 3 million in the West Bank and 2 million in the Gaza Strip. It actually serves as propaganda. Most of the conclusions here are completely, objectively wrong. Almost everything is out of context. And it’s all wrapped up in humor to make it seem somehow obvious. For example, it is not “hypocritical to prevent Palestinians from building on their land” because it is not their land. Israel was invaded and during the course of that war, they took this land. It is theirs now. They have every right to “occupy” or control it. Don’t like it? Stop waging wars against them.

I was in the middle east in 2008, which included a few weeks in the West Bank. In that short time I personally saw examples of everything John Oliver talks about in this video. Checkpoints every few miles, sniper towers and forced ghettoization. Gleeful harassment and humiliation of old men and women at gunpoint. Settlers on the hill taking pot shots at Palestinians and their cars and houses (yes, with guns, not merely rocks and beer bottles). A military convoy of about 10 vehicles rolled into town at night, abducted several people and left their family members terrified amd confused. No arrest, no formal charges. Bulldozed houses, denied permits. So glad someone is addressing the elephant in the room re: Israeli ethnic cleansing. The settlements and expansionism absolutely must go. Israel does just fine with its legal territories and could be generating so much more wealth for itself and the world in peaceful relations at least with Egypt and Jordan. Israel could be so much stronger and more secure if it cleaned house of these right wing nut jobs.
@EbnterYourName3 ай бұрын
Here's why: ONCE UPON A TIME IN MIDDLE EAST: From the first time they arrived in that part of the world, Imperial Britain's plan was to have European occupy (settle, or land grab or whatever your flavor is) that part of the world like they did to this part of the world for its land as well as rich natural resources. Therefore they began by moving europeanjews (who had initially asked the British to settle them in Argentina) to Palestine, later to be followed by russianjews, and renamed it. The difference between the Native Americans and people in Eastern Africa into Western Asia (Middle east), Turkey, Iran, India, are central Asia) was that unfortunately for them, the native Americans were not able to defend themselves like people in that part of the world, so like Palestinians, they lost big time, and no one was willing to help. However, The Plan keeps running into snags. When British empire conceded to American Empire, that plan changed much over time. From having complete states with governments in that part of the world, but in conflict of course, to micro states run by local religious warlords, Amirs, Khalifehs, Ayatollahs, or whatever your flavor is. And, that's how we got to where we're.

It seems they realized that the camps would be more than the international community can ignore, & decided that they would just do the 1st part. It will take longer, but still have the same outcome. Except, no outside interference.

John made the HBO lawyers work so much (and so rich) that they managed to avoid a nervous breakdown the second John's team let out the words "West Bank". "You know what, John ? Go on. The dragons are our Iron Dome so this one shall pass." They won an Emmy after making a 2020 sign explode. But here, it's real journalism. With more integrity and backbone than most modern media. I applaud it, encourage it. I've been pro-Palestinian since I was 16 years old reading an article about a kid shot by an Israeli soldier with au automatic rifle after the boy had thrown a rock at him. And I think it's the first time an American show teaches me anything about how awful the Palestinian situation is. My mom (who majored in Middle-Eastern History) told me there's a bit of a stereotype regarding Arabs/Muslims and "Honor" (e.g.: "Honor-killing" - murder in response to dishonoring one's family - is mostly associated here in Israel with Arab-Muslims... and crime-families)... "Dignity", however - despite being the same word as "Honor" in Hebrew (כבוד = kaVOD) - is something completely different in my opinion -- a basic human right. Maybe not everyone deserves "Honor", but they sure deserve, at the very least, "Dignity"... And West-Bank Palestinians sure aren't getting any, by the looks of it... 😮💨

The “Palestinians,” of course, have also rejected statehood and sovereignty proposals many, many times - UN Partition Plan (which Arafat himself said was a mistake,) 2000 Camp David Summit, 2001 Taba Summit, 2008 Olmert Plan, and Kerry Initiative, to name a few.
