TBF beneath all of this is an alleged 75 year cover-up by the US government, which is quite sinister indeed.
@leadpaintchips94617 ай бұрын
TBF it's still a rather depressing topic. First, it's chock full of the US government lying to its citizens 'for national security'. Despite how valid that lying might be, it's still the government flat out lying about it's actions or the actions of other governments to their citizens. Second, it's just an extension of the tribalism that we have over things that we can't prove. The schism around if they're aliens or not is _very_ heated, and the whole point is in the name, *Unidentified* Flying Object. We don't know what they are, which is why they're called that to begin with. People are 'debating' it in the same way that we 'debate' religion, which is shout our beliefs at each other until our voices are tired. I'm a skeptic at heart, I don't believe that aliens would show themselves if they came to see us, because all we got going right now is a fast track to self destruction. _But,_ a major part of the logical and scientific approach is being open to new, and verifiable information.

Actually one of the most horrifying wars in history and regarding numbers in percentages one of the most deadliest. Killing around 35% of the population. Much more then first ans seconds world war combined. ( only in percentages )
@@J.M.-nb4gwAn awful war to determine who will rule large parts of what is now Germany. Its the point where the desperation of the ruling class in the face of an existential threat allowed capitalism to florish in the hope it would lend its adopters an edge over their enemies. It worked... and then everyone else jumped on board out of fear of being left behind. Something that caused a big old shift in power towards a new class of people who are still in charge today.

The problem with this topic, is that many people use the term "U.F.O" as a synonym for "Alien Spacecraft", which leads to much misunderstanding. I am a retired cop. I have answered the phone inside a police station in the middle of the night and had somebody tell me they saw a UFO. My response was to ask if the UFO had committed a crime or if there was any obvious threat to public safety. The answer was invariably “no” which removed the incident from my area of responsibility. I literally had no way to take a report for a UFO sighting if I wanted to do so. That makes sense because police should not be wasting scarce resources dealing with non-police matters. It does leave me wondering how difficult it must be for somebody who sees a UFO to find a government employee who is willing to take them seriously.

If the UFO pilots destroyed a farm animal or unlawfully detained a person, no one has authority to arrest UFO pilots. I’m usually pretty good at identifying things but I still have my one sighting from a few years ago. Middle of a very rural area in Northern California’s Lake County I was walking from the camper to the campgrounds bathroom and admiring the night sky on the way. I see a blinking light coming in from one direction, no sound at all, and suddenly that blinking light takes a 90 degree turn without slowing down or banking, just was going south is now going east. At the exact same time as the sudden turn I see a small 4 seater plane appear to roll over as if it had been upside down and was righting itself going in the opposite direction the blinking light had been that seemed to appear at the spot where the light had turned. The only time there was any sound at all was when I saw the plane roll over so I could see its underside and then normal plane sounds as it flew off into the distance. The blinking light also continued without changing directions until I couldn’t see it anymore.

To add to the bit about "Viking helmets didn't actually have horns", the mistake came from the fact that there were ancient Celtic helmets that *did* have horns, and they were found at so many sites of Viking battles that archaeologists just assumed that the Vikings wore them - it turns out, the mistake came from the fact that these ancient Celtic horned-helmet-wearers were simply fighting the Vikings so often that the site of any battle where the Vikings fought was liable to have these horned helmets there.

The "better than our plane" comment reminds me pf a fun story involving an F4 interacting with two F22s. The short version is that a drone was picked up on radar by another country and they sent an F4. They didn't detect the two F22s who were able to get so close that they could visually inspect the F4's payload undetected and then basically pop up on it's side and radio over to go away. Imagine thinking you are aline in the sky and suddenly another aircraft is close enough that the pilot can see your "oh sh*t" face when you finally noticed the other plane.
@davidbodor17622 ай бұрын
Unfortunately that 'better than our plane' comment reeks of preconceived notions. The guy basically made up his mind already that's actually a plane or some sort of craft that flies, rather than a giant number of much more likely and much more boring explanations. There could be a solid reason he thinks it's a plane, but it's weird to say it with this much certainty when it could very well be a tech glitch, a some weather phenomena, a bug/bird that look weird at the altitude/speed, something stuck to the camera, something looking weird in infrared, etc etc etc...
@Londonmale89Ай бұрын
@@davidbodor1762 If you listen to his whole account it sounds like, in his mind, it was pretty unequivocal. I saw a UFO when I was 4 years old. One night, presumably having seen something on TV about UFO's and it was topical, my dad claimed he knew a place where UFO's could be seen, and that night took me on a drive in hopes of seeing one. For most of the drive, my face was glued to the car window as I looked up at the night sky. We arrived at the destination and waited... and waited... and waited... and sure enough, after my dad excitedly pointed them out, I witnessed an odd pattern of lights flying overhead. I was utterly amazed. That was my go to UFO story for years after, for better or worse, until I my late teens when I was able to think slightly more critically, and I actually asked my dad about what really happened that night. He confessed he had no memory of that night, but most certainly did NOT know, or even care about, UFO's. Intellectually, I can only assume he had played a little prank on me and took me under a flight path near or at the local airport, and what I saw was a airplane taking off or landing. Emotionally however, I still like to believe my dad was somehow in the know about extraterrestrial visitations... which ironically would make more sense if you knew my dad.

Anyone familiar with photography should understand the part about the triangular highlights. In a camera lens, out-of-focus highlights resolve to the shape of the aperture. If you have a six-bladed aperture, you get hexagons, if you have eight blades, you get octagons. And if you have three blades, you get triangles. Some lenses even have custom apertures shaped like stars, etc.

It is fantastic to see John Oliver talk about this phenomenon! I was a Navy submariner, and I can't talk about the things I saw underwater, but I can talk about what I saw before I joined the Navy. I was crew on the tallship Argus out of Newport Beach CA. One cruise I was standing watch, about 0200 hours I saw a large object pass below the keel amidships while we were anchored in Cat Harbor, Catalina Island. We had three guys on watch, one on the bow, one amidships, and one on the stern. Cat Harbor is long and narrow, we had to make sure we weren't dragging anchor. This thing was big, maybe 30 feet wide. I saw a green glow from below the boat and looked down over the gunwhale. Saw something very wide and glowing green passing below the boat amidships. I called out to the other watchmen and the fellow from the bow came down to join me. This thing was huge, we thought it was a whale, and maybe it was glowing green from disturbing the plankton in the water. We decided to explain it that way and note it in our logs, but I don't really believe that - it was too big, and too bright green. The brightest green I have seen the ocean is when waves are breaking in plankton rich waters, this was brighter than that. I had no other frame of reference at the time, but now after hearing reports of USOs I think it may have been that. Super weird.

Not when you realize it's 100 years of lies from the US gov't on top of the other shit they lied about... It's more depressing he never mentioned Fravor, Lazar, or any of the many who threw their lives away to tell us the reality they keep from us. We can't lie in court, but they can lie about anything they want and it's fine? Nah. Fuck that shit.

If someone identifies a UFO as a Boeing aircraft I'd be a sceptic. They can't fly! ;) But seriously, saying UFOs don't exist is the least believable thing. The fundamentally most scientific statement is "We don't know everything." followed with "But we're trying to figure it out."

I know of 2 people who say they had an encounter with a UFO. The first guy was at a park at night, He saw a bright light and heard a “sound like a helicopter”. I think he saw a helicopter. The 2nd was a relative, sober, serious and smart. Driving in a very remote area of Texas at night. They were followed for miles by a huge, black, triangle shape that covered almost the entire starlit sky.

If you do the crime, you should pay the time. So in my opinion, if test pilots are dumb or careless enough to forget running lights on a secret craft, the responsibility of keeping it secret was already fucked up--the issue shouldn't just be packaged up and shipped off to politicians or agencies or even regular people to cover it up. That ship has sailed, at that point; the jig is up, and if someone investigates it they should buck up and own it up. "Yeah, we fucked up, that was us." How hard is that?
