I was struggling with addiction when this originally aired. It pointed out that rehabs often use a 12-step program anyway, so I decided to take action. Since AA is free, I went to my first AA meeting that same week. I'm thrilled to say I've just celebrated 6 years of sobriety!

Whenever he's happened to mention a horse in the earlier reruns, I've thought about how that bit hadn't started yet, but this episode... wow, he really didn't like horses in 2018.

I personally did the Florida shuffle (lost my MIND when he read it out loud cause that’s literally what we call it down there) and the amount of horrendous shit going down in the residential facilities and the halfway houses were like one of the eye opening experiences of my life. Plus the death rate from overdoses…I’ve seen what that does to people first hand and it needs to end. I’ve overdosed and survived but I know many who weren’t that lucky and I saw the emotional fall out from their loved ones It’s just a business down there and most likely everywhere. It’s never about helping it’s about the money

when i was in community college i lived in a dorm operated by a prive third party company. you didnt have to be a student to live in the dorms and somebody running a rehab clinic was telling them to live in the dorms. we had multiple overdose deaths in the semester that i was there
@Uruz20122 ай бұрын
That's called an apartment. Dorms are places where you live on the college campus with only students, usually in a shared bedroom.
@jasonellis43302 ай бұрын
@@Uruz2012Nope. "College hall of residence or hostel." Neither of those have to be on campus or student-only. Another definition is also just a large bedroom for multiple people in a school or institution.
@ArcanineEspeon2 ай бұрын
That is absolutely fúcking wild, but it's still 92% as wild in an apartment as in a dorm, and I don't think that counts as a dorm if it wasn't operated by the school and other people could live there.

as someone who's actually done wilderness therapy, "inadvertent wilderness therapy" is just when parents don't bother learning about the place they're sending their kids to and they end up finding out that this year's "summer camp" is being miserable in utah for three months. on a more serious note, until there's a better official path for dealing with addiction, probably the best way to deal with it is to go to a support group if you can find one and talk to the people there. other people's individual experiences may not necessarily be completely illustrative of whichever place is in question, but it's better than nothing.

The best evidence I was able to find when I researched different addiction treatment approaches is that the best of them are only about (iirc) 30% effective, 12-step is probably about the same mark, but 12 step is free, which does make a difference. It's not for everyone but it seems to be a decent option for a first approach.

more or less the same, with mental health care...too little understanding of the problems, rest of society is parallel with the people going through their horror, too much profit, spineless amount of lies and faking sympathy...millions of lives and those who care can barely do anything, partly because there is not enough successful research, too much of it is still just guessing and experimentation (not the good kind), it is overwhelming and partly because too much corruption that takes away a lot from them...almost all cases, trauma...
