Finally an 80s-ish look that isn’t only masses of fluorescent colours/neon. So many beautiful looks from this era also incorporated earthy tones, whether they were natural or dramatic looks. I’m glad you have captured this in your tutorial, definitely reminds me of the makeup worn on the runway and I love it! Your content is always as informative as it is enjoyable xxx

Why is everybody complaining about listening to Charli's story as if she is interrupting Lisa? Lisa was asking her questions the whole time and I am sure she brought her onto her channel for this video for people to hear her story (as well as view this lovely makeup tutorial). I am sure if Lisa truly did not want her to speak, she would have instructed so beforehand. It sounds rather insensitive for you all to ignore this young lady's beautiful story and say, "omg shut up, Lisa is trying to do your makeup." I am not a makeup artist, but if they are anything like your hair dresser, I am sure they love to chat with their clients as well. As long as the client is following their instructions on when and how to tilt their head and not move their mouths, I don't see it as a problem (again, especially if the artist is asking you the question).

We are all responsible for changing the standards in the fashion industry. We, the consumers, hold the power for ourselves and for the future generations. I've worked in the industry for over a decade and nearly all the models I've worked with (even size 0, including men) have had stretch marks and/or cellulite. We've just been so accustom to seeing photoshopped images that people think perfection is the standard.
@stanbalo5 жыл бұрын
as much as we are brainwashed into liking what we see in a magazine etc., the real solution is to have positive self esteem and discernment. if one has low self esteem, you always create problems in your mind and no amount of diversity and inclusivity in media will change that. positive self esteem should come from inside you and not from an external factor.

Lisa I've always LOVED the makeup (and fashion) of the late 80s/early 90s (i.e. 1989-1992). To me it felt austere and modern but also beautiful and timeless. Earth-toned, classic and neutral yet quite glamorous, a "romanticized realism" if you will. Anyway, great video, beautiful, highly versatile look. Charli seems so sweet and thoughtful, and I love her mission towards body positivity. This world needs more people like her!!

I have a short bowel syndrome and severe underweight and as much as I try to explain to people the severe and at times truly dangerous health issues I have due to that, many afterwards keep replying "But I bet a lot of women are jealous" - because that "look" of BMI 15 which almost looks like you come from a concentration camp has become NORMAL and what one should strive for. It took me 18 months to gain 3 kg with a strict high calorie diet, supplements and 3x weekly 90 min light muscle strengthening training plus daily physio exercises but I still prefer that to parental feeding through a tube. I can tell every 500 g of gaining strength. I fret getting sick or no availability to the food I need for I can then easily loose 3 to 5 kg a week. And people think I should be happy to have this condition ! I hope women realise soon again when overweight actually starts, and what is a healthy normal range. And strive for that. Your body is your temple, honour it, treat it like that! It's a marvellous, mysterious thing!

A few words on this era in makeup : ( I’m 55, so I lived it) - good to use bronzer for warm glow now (we all used tanning beds then, really), blush was used as contour, we didn’t use fake lashes, we loaded on the mascara, going for length over volume, separating each lash with a pin (again, really), our go-to eyeliner was a crayon-type, and we did not wing - a big, round eye was it - yes, it was a neutrals/browns a la Bobbie Brown makeup, (using a gold on lid only for evening) - the only color ever used (sometimes) on eyes were navy in the lower outer half of bottom lash line to bring out whites of the eye - early brows were super full like Charley’s (Brooke Shields’ influence) - great job Lisa, this more modern interpretation is so much better than it really was!!!

I wasn't familiar with Charli but listening to her talk in such a vulnerable way about her ED and body image made me go look her up on Instagram. I didn't expect that as soon as I saw a few pictures of her I'd burst into tears because she has a body similar to mine. I've been feeling really insecure lately, pinching my stomach, arms, and thighs in front of the mirror, over thinking what I do and don't eat and obsessing with how clothes are sitting on me. It just really made me step out of my own head and realize that there's nothing wrong with how I look. So thank you, Charli and Lisa

As a child of the 90's (I graduated mid-90's) I have to say contour and highlight was NOT commonly used in everyday life- blush yes but not the others, and concealer was always the same shade as your foundation, not lighter like it tends to be now!- but obviously this was for average people, not people in the beauty industry. But yes I remember browns being very popular!

I thought Brooke Shields, but now that you mention it she does look a lot like Margot Robbie. Same strong face shape and features.

She looks like a mix between Margot Robbie and Billie Piper!

@T I actually think this girl is more stunning than Margot! Margot suffers with bad bags under her eyes.

Charli, you’re a beauty regardless of how your face and body look. What an inspiration, but also what a testament to the cruelty of this industry that shapes both young and older women’s opinions of themselves. I am so glad that strong, opinionated women like you are refusing to be silenced. You go, girl!

Lisa, I'm still here 10 years later, loving your videos, loving your integrity, loving the way you explain things! I became a makeup artist because of you, and while I watched many channels back then, yours is the only one I still religiously watch to this day. Thank you for sharing you expertise with us, thank you for bringing such inspirational models to your channel. From the bottom of my heart - thank you Lisa!
