Windy day here again, really warm though. Cleaned out the chicken coop and put down some bedding for them. Apparently starts snowing tomorrow and cools down on the weekend. Thinking of going to a sale on Thursday and buying some more breds to feed this extra hay to. Maybe sell my replacement heifers in the spring.

Good morning Ed, Nobody needs sick calves. Hope yours will be OK. Last year I had one with a thick , hard navel. He seemed healthy enough though. I treated him for it and it didn't go away. Now that he's just about a year old, it looks normal. 2 months and I will be calving again here. Have a good day my friend.

One of the reasons i like calving in colder climate and out in the open is less bacteria

That's why we shoot for the cold weather.. but you know how mother nature is. Too wet to calve outside on pasture. Some people wait until mid June, but they're not making hay either. Makes a difference... We didn't have naval infections until 35 years ago or so. Have never really had pnumonia issues until the last 10-15 years. We all have issues to deal with, just hopefully overcome them.
