Great seeing that 1440 out harvesting. I’ve got a 1460 about the same age. I’ve noticed that they are very good for getting clean corn. I get comments at the elevator about. I might be spitting some out the back but I hate seeing trash in the wagon. Fact of the matter, I’d rather run this “mature “ equipment more than the newer ones. The in-laws have the newer case IH with the bells and whistles, they also have more computer problems and issues with that exhaust system. The one time they spent almost $1,000 to figure out that a fuse blew. 🤦‍♂️ As for the corn burner. I’ve had one for almost 20 years and never want to go back. It’s in our basement and heats the whole house. ( fyi, we’re from Minnesota so it can get a little cold up here). If it gets down to-20 than the LP furnace will kick in maybe once an hour or less otherwise the corn burner takes care of it. We don’t have access to natural gas so we have to burn LP and I think corn has about 5 times more btu than LP. 🤷‍♂️ we spend substantially less burning corn compared to LP. Sorry this got to be kinda long Take care and Happy New Year.

Yes these older combines do a nice clean job on corn. This corn is clean right from the combine to go into a corn stove. Older combines are simple and nice to learn if somebody is just starting out, more hands on adjustments. Someday I will try a corn stove. Thanks very much for watching and responding.

Awesome to see the family children involved in farming operations. People can have all the cushy nearly mindless office jobs they want, but at the end of the day, that work doesn't put food in the belly.

we used to have a 1440 combine with a 4 row 38 inch head . you can speed up the rotor and lower the concaves and run 4.5 mph with a four row head

Another reason I like the 4 row it’s nice traveling down the road. Thanks for watching!

How do you keep the corn from molding at 17%? I tried storing corn in a gravity wagon in a pole building at around 16% with no luck.

Good question, I didn’t except it to be 17. I’m going to feed it. Another thing I noticed when it’s like this, if it’s cold out it last longer, so we will see.
