I hope the Tank Museum can some day come across a M4A3E2 Jumbo that can be restored to running order. Would basically have every important variant of the Sherman then.

The contrast in size between the StuG and the M4 behind it. M4 was a big tank, though, unlike some others, the extra room inside improved crew ergonomics . . . until the upgunning began. Fortunately, the T23 turret was adapted to the M4 hull, creating the definitive M4(76). The Red Army did the same with T34/85. I have so far come away with the impression that Chieftain (AKA Major Nick) was sparing in praise of all other WW2 era tanks, while effusive in it about the M4, Panzer III and IV. For these three, specifically, turret accommodations were such as to be conducive to greater efficacy. On a personal note, were I sneaking through a confused battlefield, separated from my unit, smoke and fire everywhere, I might feel like a plucked bird awaiting the roasting pan. In such conditions, though the aforementioned sanin (trio) made overall better steeds, I might wish for a Tiger, instead. "I find our lack of Tigers disturbing." -APC227

@@pernibuzdovan12 the Russians had their own classification of their tanks they didn't nesscarily follow the rest of the world's tank weight classification. The js2 was considered a heavy tank by the Russians and so was the panther. But later varient Sherman's such as the jumbo was a heavy tank. The Americans, british and the Germans put the panther as a medium tank. And if 40 by you is considered heavy than why isn't the easy eight considered a heavy tank coming in at 42.2 tonnes. The Jumbo is the heavy "infantry" tank that the British wanted. We waited 3 years to build it. 100's more were made, Commanders loved them and they were always put in front. Remember that the Germans were always on defense, they almost always had the first shot. The Jumbo's job was to be a target. After it was hit, the American forces would react. We needed 1000's more of these. Make the hull longer and the tracks wider and it would be fine.

The Kangaroos issued to 1 CACR were converted by 1st CBW in the UK from the final production run of Ram II tanks (with a bow-mounted MG and trailing arm suspension). CT40472 was transferred to the British in 1944 and if it is to be displayed as a Kangaroo, it should be shown in the markings of the British 49th Armoured Personnel Carrier Regiment.

I always wondered why french hadn't continued using Panthers postwar? They didn't had as bad reputation as basically "tool of evil" as in the east, they were able to produce components, it was still a fine tank in terms of power that needed refinement in utility and reliability. Why bother with ARL for parades if you can get a good tank by redesigning on basis of Panthers? Move transmission to the back and without the shaft going through the hull, you can lower it by 30cm if I recall right and also change the angle of said armor. Add rear turret niche, remove frontal MG. Lowered mass would help with reliability and logistics. Yes, there was no point since thousands of M4's were available, but still, there was ARL made solely for national pride. Could have used that budget to get a good tank out of it.

@@TheArklyte I never said that they never entered service, only that they never saw combat in WW2 which is what actually matters in any conversation about WW2 tanks. The Germans had plenty of their own projects which yielded prototypes, but they don't matter either because they didn't make it to the war. I give the M26 credit because it wasn't just used as a postwar parade vehicle, it actually contributed to the ending of WW2, even if it's contribution was very minimal. Also speaking of the space program, have you ever heard of Werner von Braun? He's the German rocket scientist who lead the design team of the the Saturn 5 rocket. The Germans were absolutely essential to the space program.
