The presence of the AA battery on High Ground suggests to me that the damaged Pelican on the monitor was actually part of the invading force that the defenders managed to hold off before finally being overwhelmed. This in turn suggests that the attack on the base wasn't Covenant at all, but _Innie._ We know from stories like _The Cole Protocol_ that long before the post-_Halo 3_ stalemate between the races of the galaxy, there was a black market for Covenant weapons that thrived in circles where the UNSC were unable to impose due jurisdiction, explaining the presence of things like Needlers on the map; the Mauler could have been brought by them for the purposes of clearing out the UNSC holdouts once they had broken through and the fight turned close-quarters, or it could have been at the base already for UNSC study and taken up by some desperate Marine in the final throes of its defense. The more interesting thing is that there was Insurrectionist conflict at all during the events of _Halo 3_ (which, again, is a notion backed up by the books): the rebels believing so fervently in the Outer Colonies being granted the justice they deserve that they're still striking at the center of human ethnocentrism after the Outer Colonies have been all but lost - refusing to yield their ideals on the infinitesimal chance that humanity indeed lives to see tomorrow. ...But your reading is still better. 😉

High Ground was hands down the best map for the game mode "Infection". The custom map I remember playing on had these barriers covering the doors, as well as the hole on the side of the bunker. Then the zombies would race up the hill and try to breakdown the barriers with their energy swords. The humans would fend them off at the top of the hill, but then slowly retreat further back into the base as the zombies started breaking through the walls. It was the most intense thing trying to survive the time limit. Miss those days!

The surviving soldiers defending high ground got evacuated, but their Pelican got shot down. That Pelican you see on the monitor is the evac ship that got shot down on the way out. At least that is my theory. If you remember Halo Glasslands, one of the Spartans stuck in that Dyson sphere in slipspace under Onyx found she could make tables form out of the floor. Maybe citadel is just an office space, but all the desks are stored in the floors and walls? Maybe Citadel is a powerstation and this floor is where they are supposed to manage everything?

Wow I love how you started this video off with High Ground. It was the map that really got me invested into Halo. I remember being late to the Halo 3 party, having gotten an Xbox in 2009. My friends begging me to get Halo 3. Playing a bit, but not really having fun because it was so different to other shooters. But I remember my friend showing me forge on high ground. Something about the map just got my creative juices flowing. Just like you came up with a story for the map I too envisioned a battle of attrition taking place on that hillside bunker. I remember spending all night with my friend forging an "epic" ctf map. In reality the map was insanely unbalanced. We placed every power weapon and power up on the cliff by the beach for the attackers while adding only basic weapons and more objects as cover for the defenders to use. It was a truly a rudimentary map, but as a teenager it felt so awesome to have a map I could call my own. It was due to this experience that I invested more time into Halo forging, then as I forged I learned more about map/weapon balance. Which made me better at understanding the multiplayer. Getting better at multiplayer made me more invested in the universe. From there I invested time into the Halo 3 campaign. Didn't understand everything, but I enjoyed it. This lead me to buying the other 2 games and ODST so I could understand the full scope of the narrative. Then once Halo : Reach came out, well the rest is history. Still loving this franchise to this day.

One my best multiplayer map experiences was on the map Breakneck. You see, I had just gotten xbox live, and the first game I played with it was Halo MCC. On the third or fourth match I played, the chosen map was Breakneck and the game mode was Team Slayer Heavies. I started the match (I was on blue team) , and it was utter chaos. Wraiths, Tanks and Warthogs battled across the streets, skirmishes occurred in every room and combined with the map's aesthetic, turned this simple match, into a full-fledged war. Me and a few teammates managed to make it to the top floor of the tallest building in the map, and began sniping down onto the streets below. The red team saw this, and took control the building in the middle of the map, and we began trading fire. Rubber burned through the streets, while the air crackled with shots form our sniper rifles. Then the Banshee arrived. It was a very surreal moment when the Red Team's Banshee raced from above and began firing down onto the streets while it speared through storm of sniper shots. Then Blue Team's Banshee joined the fight, and a dogfight sprung between the two alien vehicles, only 3 meters in front of our faces, with each pilot attempting to outmanoeuvre and outgun the other. Plasma reigned down on us as we attempted to hold our position. Despite the fact that we lost, I loved the feeling of adrenaline and dread this match gave me. It was exciting, scary and epic. It felt like a campaign mission, and that both teams were fighting to control this particular harbour. It felt like Halo.

When I was young, my brother and I didn't have Xbox Live, so we'd often mess around in Forge, and I recall Sandtrap being one of the ones we'd always go back to. I remember thinking that the Frigate hovering above the map was the missing half of the Forward Unto Dawn, and the crashed Human and Covenant ships were from other people who tried to escape the Halo's pulse.

My favourite is Achour Nine. I loved that map and used to play it with my friends when they would come over. I did not have xbox live either so me and my dad would explore and roleplay it all the time. The others left to fight the covenant and we were all that were left. I also love Halo 2s headlong, the city and driving in warthogs, I made for the perfect gettaway city. My last but not least favourite is Halo 3s Citadel, storming the citadel and blowing up the cores and trying to escape... Those are my halo memories of the maps.

Back in the days of Halo 2, Turf was occupied very much by me and my two sisters. We would waste our time pushing all the boxes around the map, usually into the military tent, where one of us would run "an ice cream shop", or something like that, while the other two drove around in a vehicle, occasionally stopping, and of course, throwing grenades from across the map at random. We would do the same thing on Terminal as well, which provided much cleaner lines of sight for fun harassment, and also the traincars. The person running the shops would walk around inside it, push boxes around, and when we discovered that this was initially boring was when we started tossing grenades to knock stuff around. After Reach released to PC, and I (for four and a half straight hours) used a barrier-removing mod to explore the whole ForgeWorld map with a Falcon, I came up with the headcanon that Bungie had intended to turn the whole map into one giant playfield, as many of the mountains are fully textured, and many areas just seem to have randomly more detail than they should. I now believe that map was a pet project that was being worked on until the day they had to pack up the game and ship it. Imagine what it could have been if Reach delayed until Christmas that year. Imagine being able to cross that ocean to the mountains on the other side and build over there. Mods can make that happen now, but what if Bungie had "completed" forgeworld to where there were no soft push or kill barriers except the water?
