Күн бұрын

Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Soloing Secrets with one of my favorites - Mr. Freddie King! I've had requests to feature some of Freddie King's legendary music, and this lesson concludes this recent look at the "Three Kings" of blues music, with Albert, B.B., and now finally taking a look at some of Freddie's tasty blues guitar ideas - so let's dive in!
The ideas shared in this lesson were pulled from three of my favorite Freddie King albums, including music from Getting Ready, Texas Cannonball, and Burglar. This includes sections from songs such as 'Palace Of The King,' 'Pack It Up,' and 'Lowdown In Lodi' - to name a few!
I'm also adapting part of Freddie's unusual picking style in this lesson, as I'm using a metal fingerpick on my index finger played with lots of accented upstrokes. As you'll see, I've tried to channel some of Freddie's magic in this lesson, and this is the first time I've ever attempted to authentically play his way using a metal fingerpick. Playing this way really seems to add something when you use it and grab a plucked bend or single note with some extra authority and conviction.
Needless to say, if you're a Freddie King fan, a player searching for some classic licks/ideas to stick in their bag of tricks, or maybe you're just curious what all the fingerpicking fuss is about - this lesson is totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

So, no one can say that I'm not dedicated - today is my birthday and here I am working on a Freddie King lesson, but I love his music so much, this was fun to put together. Also, just a heads up, but the Patreon files that accompany this lesson will be posted late - I'm heading to Red Lobster for b-day dinner! [Burps] And thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! ROCK ON! 🔥🤘🤩🤘🔥

First off,Happy belated Birthday buddy!! Second thing, how can people on here criticize soo much when he is on here actually trying to provide information and demonstrate playing in order to teach those that want to know. I don't see any of you criticizers on here trying to share positive information

He’s magical absolutely! Luv everything he ever laid down but the “Just Picking” compilation changed my life. Wow, the blending of pure Country and Blues just blew my mind then and now what a player! Thanks for the episode David. 👍

Freddie's 1970s music is so underrated! His earlier music was so amazing and influential that the 70s music gets overlooked. I love both eras. He continues to be a huge influence on my playing. Thanks for the great lesson and happy birthday!

No "Going Down?" To me that's THE signature Freddie King song, even more so than "Hideaway." I am also in the Freddie is the best King camp, so count me in as a member of your club as well!

Love this channel! Im a Blues nut and use this technique occasionally. FLIP THE FINGER PICK AROUD. UnlessI missed something with Freddie? your finger pick is Backwards. I made the same mistake starting but if you flip around (opposite from where you had it) It will work faster smoother and won't pull off! Great work on these videos!!

Hey man! You’re wearing that fingerpick backwards, just so ya know. It’s not supposed to fit like a nail, but it goes over where your fingerprint would be. Not trying to be a douche, just trying to help lol

THANK YOU! I tried to search for that info and couldn't find it anywhere. I also couldn't find a clear photo or footage of Freddie picking. Usually the camera would pan to his face while he played, which was VERY frustrating! Good info to know, as I didn't know he wore it backwards - thanks for the heads up!

Jimmie Vaughan was highly influenced by Freddie King. You still haven't made any lessons about Jimmie Vaughan, Scott McKeon or Jose Feliciano which they also use Upstrokes to get that sharper pick attack. Watch Jose Feliciano using only upstrokes covering purple haze CLICK HERE kzbin.info/www/bejne/roqpZ32ljKymqqM
