Warren Demartini, along with Nuno & Ronni Le Tekro, was a HUGE fave of mine, back in the day. The holy trinity of the LA school, back then, was Lynch, Demartini & Jake E. Lee. Loved all three, but Warren was the player i was most drawn to.

Warren is a legend. Criminally under-rated. His riff writing and soloing out of the pentatonic box were creative and smooth like you mentioned. I saw Ratt on their final tour with him about 4 years ago and he played most of the solos with his eyes closed. The 1st two licks you showed are from the solo to Head I Win. Warren was in peak form for Detonator. The solo to "Can't Wait On Love" is my favorite DeMartini solo of all time.

Warren carried the band Ratt for so many years ... a players player ... I can’t imagine Steven Pearce singing Lights Out In London ... make cringe just thinking about it ... Warren was a “gun slinger” coming out of the eighties ... love the content

DeMartini is one of those '80s players I never got much exposure to because I hated the singers in so many popular bands of that era. Pearcy, Neil, Slaughter, etc., etc.. I'd rather watch my grandparents go at it then listen to their screeching, out-of-key voices. Unfortunately, that meant I listened to very little from great players like Warren. I might have missed him all together if I hadn't been a huge fan of Lynch and Schenker (the reason I switched to guitar from drums). DeMartini seemed like a much more melodic player than a lot of his contemporaries. Another great post, Dave. Cheers.

Every video you put out makes me want to go pick up the guitar and practice !! Great video !!!

His technique and articulation is next level. To play lead lines like a jazz player is the sh-t. My buddy wrote to me from Hawaii yrs ago said he meet and hung out with, i think he said the guitarist, which may have been Warren. Ratt had their first album out and were touring it i guess? Stan wrote, Warren`s? mom was telling him he had to get a haircut and stuff cause he still lived at home. I thought that was hilarious. Long time ago.

And he always had groove, for days, as if there ever was a pocket, my God! And the way he puts a little stank on it sometimes, Slick Rick .
