i remember the biggest rush when i started really gaming was that i could play against real people around the world after years of playing against AI. now that all games are designed around that it's become the norm and doesn't give us the same excitement, we've peaked dopamine. nowadays if you enjoy a single player experience you're considered cultured.

Well, everyone forgets that they had fun when they were kids, young, carefree, and full of imagination. Everything was fun back then due to those factors. We also had limited time from parents and limited games. Now that we have all grown up and we can buy many more games and watch them on KZbin before actually getting to play them, we have lost the feeling of novelty as we truly are experienced generally and know-it-all, been-there-done-that in gaming. For some, these modern games are their childhood and they will remember them forever. I, however, enjoy many new games and I play different genres. From online shooters like COD, PUBG, BF to side scrollers like Ori, Rayman, Trine to artistic games like Abzu, Gorogoa and Journey. You can still get that "childhood" nostalgia back by: 1. playing fewer games 2. buying games on sale after the hype trains are over (not talking about the online games), so you play solely for your enjoyment and curiosity 3. watch fewer trailers and don't watch gameplay from youtubers 4. focus on a single game at a time and don't be distracted by social media and hypes.

Games used to not be political and bring their agendas into the game. For example cod or fortnut. The majority of games were better back then. Now most games just copy the newest trends like every game having a battle pass. They no longer take risks to trying something new. There's games that are well made but also notice most are single player because multiplayer games are all about making the big bucks.

Games can be boring for those who do gaming since late 90s like me. I saw a time when people don't care about graphics graphics card and fps. But now everything is on your desk. I like some current gen game not online gaming because online gaming is biggest time waster. I plays doom 2016, doom eternal nfs payback, starwars Battlefront 2015, Tekken 7 and some many more. Then there is mobile nowdays i like offline mobile games too. I never bored on gaming just because of the art style which attracts me alot.

I really agree with the being able to see games before we play them. It's completely necessary in a landscape of money hungry developers, but in the 90's, developers had to make a complete game, because they couldn't patch them. I remember always being excited when I got to rent a game from Blockbuster, because I had no idea what it was gonna be like. The sad reality is that the landscape of gaming has changed, and gamers have had to adapt, and those feelings we had in the golden age of gaming just aren't able to be recreated again.

Its weird for me. I feel as if I am waiting for a very specific type of game, something that has everything I want in a game, but every time I try to play something, I realize that its not what I am looking for. Best way I can explain it is that I want to play a game that doesn't exist yet and its frustrating. I know, it weird, but because of that, I am not interested at all in anything.

thats a really good point, kids have so much time and friends that they can use to play games, but grown ups will have gone seperate paths and won't be talking to their friends, and won't have the time. In my experience it generally has to do with novelty. In other words, when you're first introduced to games everything is new but as you play more and more games you start noticing the patterns in game design. And when you eventually get bored of one aspect you recognize that aspect everywhere and it becomes stale.

I feel like it's a growing up type thing, as when we were a kid, when we beat a pokemon champion, or get a victory on a shooter game, we felt like we were doing something to benifit our lives, and made us better people. Growing up is realising that when it happens it's not pointless, it's just not going to benifit you at all in the real world (unless you compete in the tornaments). And the fact that people are just getting much more skilled and arnt chill for the game. Games were meant to be fun and chill and for enjoyment. But the fact people are taking these games much more seriously its not worth the time trying to play. The fact that my mum also only allowed me to play on weekends felt like rewards because it was only allowed on a special occasion, and if I was allowed to play everyday, it would not have felt like something I worked for and was just another thing that happens. I'm not going to argue with the gaming community, because theres no point, but I miss the uncharted days man.

I was a kid in the 90s. I expected holodecks by now. But what we have is corporate greed afraid to take risks and we wind with franchise 15 to 20 years old that havnt changed their game at all. Single Player games don't offer continuity unless you're a speedrunner that keeps trying new things. You might like Resident Evil or Outlast, but by the 3rd replay you'd already know where/when whose/which enemies are going your way. Yes, maybe Hardest mode would force you to replay several times, but I don't think you'd have to restart the entire game as you already saved your progress. Same cases in terms of From Software games like Dark Souls or Sekiro.

@@thebluescaptain That's not true at all. It's all about a game's replay value. Obvious if you play a game that has a one time replay value, then yes you'll get bored after the first playthrough. Most single player games like: DOOM Eternal, Skyrim, Devil May Cry, God of War, etc., all have high replay value and I myself have replayed each one of those games over 4 times at least. Single player games are the way to go man, especially now. Games were never made to be played forever. Once you feel like you've done all you can with one game, move on to the next. And when enough time passes maybe pick up the game again of you like. Single player games are still great.

@@Rageren Goes back to personal taste yes, but pvp games are replayable not because the game is fun. I mean, of course the game is fun hence they dedicate themselves playing it, but after technical stuffs they look for something, which is competition. Most of the people enjoy PVP games, or Single Player, BUT open world like GTA Offline. Again, in terms of DMC, RE, etc, the most common ones are speedrunners who're basically PVP players as they try to break records of other people, and memes enjoyer. In terms of Devil May Cry, combo records and highest endless palace floor. Again, beside speedrunners almost nobody would repeat Outlast over and over again, unless they're looking for easter eggs, actually learning the documents, or looking some screenshot materials for memeing purpose.

I think the true death of online games like cod / halo was the death of the lobby. In the past everyone played with the mic on, you talked shit between games, you made each other laugh, it was much more social, when someone was clearly skilled you could talk to them after, when they sucked you could talk to them after. Now most games I feel the mic is barely on, unless playing ranked, and if it is just call outs. Now if someone is really good, instead of forming a relationship with them (good or bad), they are just a soulless avatar that kills you. Its very clinical and soulless now.

Sick of micro transactions . Sick of half finished games and developers releasing the rest of the game for more money . Sick of woke values corrupting quality storyline and characters . Sick of realistic shooters having characters with unlockable costumes that looks like a rainbow 🌈. HOWEVER ...I think this video has helped made me realise something , he's right . @@InfoblackXD I disagree with all of this... mainstream or not there are GREAT games (example, monster hunter world, one of the best video games of all time), good games (ex. Tomb Raider or Uncharted) and BAD games (CoD is a perfect example)... that is subjective up to a point but there are video game creation fundamentals that make games go to one of 3 categories... what makes Monster Hunter World one of the best games of all time? Immersion, intensity, level of detail, incredible intelligence and realism of the AI, fantastic flow of the combat system... on the other hand what makes the latest CoD a bad game? Horrible maps, lack of balance that makes the game always end up with 2-3 meta weapons everyone uses in every game, ways of losing that feel unfair (RPG spamming, flame shotguns, unavoidable killstreaks such as choppers that are not even player controlled), SBMM that makes every game feel sweaty and the better you get the harder the game gets which makes you never see any real improvement in your performance since the game just gets harder and you perform the same, the game aims to keep you playing through rage and frustration rather than enjoyment... All these are OBJECTIVE characteristics of each of these games and they are also objective characteristics that most games have some of them... so, mainstream or not, big studio games or small indy games it doesn't matter... all that matters is being able to identify what makes a game good or even GREAT and pick the ones that objectively are the best games out there and then out of them you can subjectively decide which ones are more for you... CoD is still coming out every year and bought by people (while 80% of them complain about how the game sucks) only because these people don't know how to identify a good game... it's that simple...

I love when a COD fanboy tells me “there’s no good games out right now.” Expand your damn library ffs OR just take a break. Sometimes that’s needed a lot more than finding something new to play. Spellbreak was a fun game. I could only get two friends to play it with me even though it was FREE. Plenty of fighting games to play right now which is awesome too. I’ll never finish all of the single player games that I want to. I have a plethora of games in my library to pick from. (PC/PS4) 96 in my Steam Library alone. Not all of them have been touched or even half way completed, and it’s not because they’re not fun. I just have a bunch of things to play plus I work a lot. Anyone that’s bored of gaming needs to take a break or just try something different for a change. FPS isn’t the only genre. AND anyone that was looking forward to 2042 I feel for you. I was looking forward to playing that also. That’s the only game I’ve ever wanted to play that was literally in the red for Steam reviews. I had to take the people’s word for it.

I'm the same. eSports has mostly ruined what was a great way to relax after work or school. And the fact that so many people on KZbin are trying to cash in by becoming a streamer or video content creator cashing off the latest trends just makes this all the more worse. You used to be able to hook up with more people in multiplayer games. Now people are too eager to block you for saying the wrong thing and they're far more competitive than they were decades ago.

Yeah e.g. COD campaigns don't have a clear break. The short cut scene that plays before a mission starts can be stopped but it plays automatically. I believe that's a reason for more continuous and lengthy sessions

I love specific shooters. If I could play hell let loose or beyond the wire I would. But what ruins shooters for me is the over the top competitiveness that promotes selfish playstyles. The k/d stat for instance. Its shoved in your face in almost every shooter, even in gamemodes that are supposed to be TEAM oriented. People check on this and worry if theyll go negative, so they adopt a shit playstyle like sitting at the back with a sniper or mortar truck and do nothing to help the fee teammates who actually want to play properly. Almost every game in bf1 Operations becomes a stomping match as either the attackers become too scared to spoil their k/d and play sniper, so not attacking, making the defence way too easy and boring. Or the defenders are too scared to stay in their defence zones because theyre afraid to die and mess their k/d up, leaving it to the enemy to capture. So its either an extremely easy defence or a steamroll attack with little no resistance, both extremely boring to play on both sides. All because K/D is plastered in front of everyone like its the main objective, so thats all people focus on. Even some people shoot friendly ammo and health crates just so they can place theirs and get points. To me even leaderboards are a problem, literally because they promote selfish gameplay, team quitters and team switichers. A solution would be to either have a stat track based on how many objectives you have captured and defended, promoting players to do just that. Or at the very least allow players to turn off public leaderboard stat tracking in the match itself. So players can actually play for fun and be immersed without being frustrated and only playing for good stats.

For me personally, I had to really think hard about this “what was it about gaming that I miss/made it fun” and what it came down to is people. I just remember being able to get on a game and forget what upset me in my life or what was going on or who was arguing or what test I had coming up and if I had to go to work the next morning. I think there are 3 main issues. One is a lack of dedication due to endless choice. We all didn't have much choice (back in the 90's, early 2000's) in what we bought so we stuck to the games. Even replayed them multiple times. We had more patience. Now you open up steam and have a million games to play at once. This happens with movies too. I remember watching Toy Story a billion times due to not having much else. No sometimes I can't even start any movies due to Netflix having a million movies. Second is I think gamers tend to only play video games. As in, in terms of general entertainment media. For me once I'm tired of gaming for the day, I read a book, watch a show, read manga, listen through albums. This leads to not feeling like all my free time having to go to games. Thirdly, is having a narrow scope in terms of taste. I have plenty of friends that only play the popular multiplayer games. I'm glad this is not me because I can enjoy the game design/stories of JRPG's, platformers, horror games, stealth games, adventure games, metroidvania. My favorite games of all time are from a variety of era's, genres and atmosphere.

I mostly agree with this. But the reason I don't bother with a lot of movies anymore is because like with games, they are using copy and paste. Toy Story was a major step forward in the animated movie industry. The first full blown CGI title starring Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear. The sequel was also pretty good. I miss the days when Aladdin, The Lion King and Beauty & the Beast were shattering box office records. The 1990s was considered the renaissance of western animation, particularly Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs that took elements from those real old vintage Looney Tune cartoons your great grandparents watched in the 1940s and 1950s. Even animated movies with a far lower budget like A Goofy Movie and live action films with some CGI like Casper had their own quirks. Today, Hollywood has lost all originality. How many times are they going to try to reboot Star Wars? Spider-Man himself already has a reboot. DC is trying to revitalize Batman. So what, the Dark Knight Trilogy not good enough? Star Trek isn't immune to the reboot treatment either. Look at what Hollywood did to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers. Look at what they basically did to He-Man, an 80s cartoon that many middle aged people today practically grew up with. It falls right in line with gaming today. Your friends are watching the popular superhero movies just like they're playing the popular multiplayer games. Fortnite and Overwatch. GTA Online. In the 1990s I rented Sonic the Hedgehog 3 more times than I can bother to count. You had to go to Blockbuster to rent the game, or pay a good amount of money which most kids didn't have. That is why we had more patience because the technology just wasn't there. Today my niece and nephew are gobbling up shows on Netflix and playing on their parents Nintendo Switch at a much faster rate than I was ever able to do when I was their age. We can say a lot of things now are for the better, but we should also say a lot of things now are for the worse.

@@KratostheThird I disagree, some of the best games I've ever played are from the last 5/6 years and I play game since NES, Psychonauts 2 is in my top 3 games of my life and it's from 2021, maybe you just need to try other genres or play more indies, some indies are experiences that no AAA could give to you. I can't say much about movies because I never was someone that watched a lot of them, but game still have a lot of fresh and good ideas (mainly within indies). Games are a lot like music. If you listen to the same song for 2,000 hours, no matter how much you love the song, you will wish to hear something else. A single music genre can last a lot longer, but after a decade of only pop or rap or country or metal you will begin to get tired. With music, there is an incredible amount of variety for you, tons of different genres with great quality in each if you search for it. Games are not the same, if you like RTS games for example, Starcraft 2 was the last great AAA RTS game made, there are no good modern options. Modern developers mostly focus on multiplayer games, especially fps games and they take no risks anymore, so it is a very stale industry. It's a good comparison to music though, mainstream music is trash, and the mainstream AAA games aren't trash but very average at best, focusing on what generates the most sales, trying to reach as many as possible. The industry has matured, developers have figured out the most optimal formulas for games that maximize sales and revenue with the least amount of work and cost. The phase of experimentation, innovation and excitement is over.

I think it's a matter of neurochemistry changes. As we age, our dopamine levels decline. This makes the same activities less fun. Combine this with the fact that games haven't changed a whole lot since we were kids and there's very little novelty, which is what promotes high dopamine levels. The end result is that games just aren't as entertaining from your perspective as an adult as they were when you were a kid filled with wonder and curiosity.

This is true at least in my case, because I remember getting super excited when i saw the game limbo for the first time, and now if i see a super technological game like cyberpunk or horizon zero dawn, and I couldnt care less. I would have believed this until I played with VR. I think the real issue is the lack of actual advancements in game design. So far, it has mostly been graphical changes. With VR, there are so many new ways to play games. This is also why I like some "gimmicks" and novel ideas such as the Ring Fit Adventure and my favorite handheld being the DS. I also appreciate games that utilize physics like Zelda BotW and good level design as seen in TLOU Part 2. I think my tastes just have been more refined and the need for unique experiences continues to flourish.

The games have also changed as we grow older. Most games now are marketed to the younger generation, NOT US. Those of us who played GTA San Andreas and Halo back in the day are grown ups approaching middle age with families, jobs and responsibilities. Nothing lasts forever. What they make now is far different and likely catering to a different audience than when they were first starting out.

Maybe it’s time for people to realize that there is more to life than just gaming. There is so much to do outside than just always staying inside and just doing the same thing all over again. During quarantine, it made me realize that staying inside and gaming all the time was draining my life and it was so boring. Once it was more acceptable to go outside and continue to do the things we love, i felt relieved like i just released a huge amount of stress I had the whole year. Hanging out with my friends and going to school now was the best part, even playing basketball, traveling, movies, and theme parks.

Sports like football, baseball, and basketball are now playing in their home arenas with ofc the players being covid tested and the fans wearing masks. Even school we wear masks and we can take them off once were outside and barely near anybody. I think you missed my point, I didn’t hate that I had to wear masks and covid 19, im not like those anti-vax anti-mask people i actually like how the government promoted masks. The thing that I hated was the solitary confinement of quarantine and how it limited my freedom to just being in my house and going out barely. Plus, when i hang out with my friends there is no risk of death. Death is not always guaranteed and you could lessen those chances by the universal cleaning methods. All of my friends take clear responsibility for one another and themselves. Also if one contracted it, then we will test ourselves to protect our family. Some of my friends already had it and they said it wasn’t that bad, some of my family members too and all safely recovered. Actually the death percentage of covid 19 WORLDWIDE is less than 1%. I didn’t contradict myself because I only started going outside when it was more ACCEPTABLE to go outside, as in more SAFER, which was at the time quarantine ended. Quarantine may still be happening for some people only because if they’re old or because they’re paranoid. I’m a teenager and my family is ok with going outside but are self-aware.

It isn't necessarily gaming for me but games that require so much of my time. I can't do long RPG's anymore. MMO's and competitive games put me off. I discovered VR with the Quest 2 and that has been a godsend. It still allows me to be physical and doesn't require me to game for over two hours to feel satisfied. I have been leaning more towards shorter and casual games to take that stress off. I'm glad you feel freed and are doing other things you love. It is nice to get some variety.

It's actually the opposite. Publishers want you to keep playing and spend money on microtransactions so they can tell shareholders how good they're doing. Cod4 (2007) didn't get any new content ever outside of 4 dlc maps. Cod Vanguard came out 2 months ago and already got more dlc content than that.

@@stevulkolego7641 I seriously recommend you try other genres. Grand strategy for example and simulation games are still amazing and make you want to play more, and they don't do so by trying to make you feel the need to grind battle passes etc, they do it by having deep and satisfying mechanics.

The quality of games has decreased over the past few years which is partly why I'm tired of games, but I have to admit that the main reason is because I'm just burnt out. I've seen it and done it all and nothing feels as fresh or exciting as it used to be for me. I think the reason I'm still here is because I don't know how to move on or that I just don't want to. Games have become such a integral part of my life that the idea of completely moving away from something that has given me such joy and memories is impossible.

I play something and I realize that this game only has like 20% of the features/lore/whatever I actually wanted from a video game. And then I stop and play the next best thing, that probably is even worse than whatever I played before. Right now I just cant bring myself to even launch any game I have in my library. I am still looking forward to Starfield, Diablo 4 , Hogwarts Legacy and Ashes of Creation. But of course as most games that are promising, they will get delayed for years or be released prematurely and broken.

For me it's having those old friends we've met during matches online while playing our favorite games, besides our IRL friends. Till this day there's people I met at 11yrs ago who don't play anymore but we still hold some conversation from time to time through social media and seeing them accomplish their dreams/goals is also amazing. I’ve recently taken a break from gaming. And outright left console gaming altogether. Halo infinite was a burn while the gameplay was great, the challenges and lack of progression seemed like a real job for me. Same with games like fallout 76 and elder scrolls online, it just feels like a job that I don’t get paid for these days. When I return I’ll be sticking to mostly single player experiences. It’s weird man, the older I get, the more money I make, the less I want to spend that money and the more I value my time.

A big role of course is the competitive gaming. But the main thing for me is growing up, you realize things, your mentality about games is changing also. When you have weight on your shoulders, you know you cant stay home playing games all morning/day. I have spent hours trying to find the perfect game to play and then realize that there isnt any. The only game i wanna play right now is Terra Invicta. Ive waiting for this games tbh. I dont know long i will play but i will try it. Even with Football Manager, which i buy every year since 2005. The FM22 version, i bought it on a sale and didnt play an official match yet.

It’s just disappointing how there’s such a variety of different games but barely any of them can keep my interest anymore. Back then, playing games was the funnest shit ever and it took my mind off things. There were people to play with and the online experience was overall the greatest. I am (or was) an Xbox player. I got into competitive gaming and it was fun because I was introduced into a whole community of people with the same interest in an area of gaming. I only really played with one person back in the day where we would pull all nighters playing BO2, switching between 1v1s, tryharding on multiplayer and playing zombies. As time progressed, we don’t play or really talk much anymore because we got our own shit going on now. The only games I actually enjoyed are now absolute dog shit and the communities are trash. The newer generation of games (like COD) are just not it for me because they are just exact copies of one another. Nothing new in the world of gaming has been introduced for a few years now. Each new game is a rushed cash grab that had barely any though put into it. Even Minecraft is hot garbage now (talking about bedrock edition). Every update introduces more and more bugs including older ones that have been present for almost 2 years. They say that they fix almost 100 bugs in every update but it’s all bullshit. The developers for Minecraft Bedrock are batshit retarded and don’t care about the game or community whatsoever. It’s unplayable and overall un-enjoyable. Now to rant about Xbox. It’s like Microsoft is purposely trying to make the gaming community more and more inconvenient. First of all, they removed the 12 month gold subscription obviously because they were tired of slower cash flow. They reduced it down to 3 months so you’d have to pay $100 a year instead of $59 once a year. They constantly promote shitty games and make poorly made deals for when you have Xbox live gold or that shitty game pass garbage. I get one Xbox every couple of months just to get more and more disappointed with the way things are going. I’m always greeted with an update that doesn’t change anything but it makes me wait 20 minutes before I can actually play a game. By then I already lost interest. The home menu is increasingly getting slower and buggier every update. I know it’s because they want people to move to next gen consoles but you cannot even get your hands on the new Xbox because of scalpers. But still, it’s like what’s the point of getting the new console if it’s going to be the same shit anyway? You still gotta pay $100 a year just to play online, your still gotta put up with the shitty deals, still playing the same shitty games that only get worse and worse etc. This is really my personal experience with the way gaming is today and I know it’s not the case with everyone. Some people still find the majority of games fun and don’t really have an issue with bugs. Gaming just isn’t something that sparks any joy to me anymore because of the lack of creativity or originality. It’s nothing but cash grabs that may seem fun until you’ve been playing for about 30 minutes just to see how it’s all repetitive.

@@deepfriedspaghetti982 im someone who has a favourite game list with a lot of indies but no one ever really goes further tham "stick to indie" but its not that easy Firstly you end up in a smaller community so less people to play with/discuss You have to find what genres you like There are millions of samey looking games with a manga art style that all blend together for me I love unique games like untitled goose game and undertale but you need a taste for it And if you're going for shooters good luck

@@colin3ds1 Bingo, the biggest issue right there at the end: “If you’re going for shooters then good luck.” Most people these days have been ruined by AAA titles because now the only thing people want to play are highly polished and highly populated games with tons of other players. Indie games are not that at all; Most indie games are usually single player, and the multiplayer options sometimes don’t work simply because nobody else is playing this completely random unknown indie game, so your only option from there is to hope that you know somebody in real life who is willing to play with you. . This is my number 1 issue not with just gaming, but with all of Society: For so long now, we have been raised up and conditioned by the system of Capitalism to believe we need Bigger, Better, Brighter, and Shinier things, and that we need them to be brand new and coming up with something different all the time, because owning the same thing for more than a few months, god forbid more than a year, is considered *wrong* because that means companies get to make things cheaper and shittier and charge more for it because we’re now a planet of idiots conditioned to believe the Fastest possible solution is always the Best solution; Even when the Fastest option almost always means poisoning ourselves and the planet, we still do it for the sake of quicker convenience. . This has seeped its way into the video game world too, and has sprouted in the form of all the bullshit we see today; Rushed titles that are never what they promised them to be, cash grab options to make as much money as they can in a short amount of time before releasing the next shitty piece of garbage to rinse and repeat the process, embezzlement through the rough as frat boys try to make video games just to take money and not have to work for it, and also the culture we’ve ended up in where companies know we’ll still buy the games no matter how fucking terrible they are, because nobody is willing to stand up and say something and stop giving in.

For me right now, I’ve got 6 massive games I still need to finish plus loads of multiplayer games and soon there’s another 10 games coming out very soon I really wanna play and also the massive back catalogue of games I’m still yet to play, I just can’t set aside time to play, it feels like a chore to plan which game I’m gonna play first and for how long, inevitably what happens is I load up a game do 1 side quest which I’ve done 95 times in other games, feel the pressure of the magnitude of playtime I still have to play and end up watching Netflix :(

I think the biggest reason why games suck nowadays is that there is just no fulfillment when you play them. Nothing feels earned because if I want a specific rare item, which I have to grind 20 consecutive hours for, someone else can just work 1 hour IRL and swipe swipe swipe and get the same item that way. Of course games have to monetize but they also had to monetize back then, and they managed to do so. I don't know what thrived video game publishers to monetize their games to the trash. Maybe for accessability for the whole world instead of just the hardcore gamer core? I don't know man, but for me nearly 100% of the games today miss the "Do this and you'll get rewarded this insanely satisfying item" and the reward actually being something you are proud of and not just "Oh I unlocked this? - *1 Hour later* - Oh, screw the old unlock, let me use this!" mentality.

Couldn't agree more. Especially RPG games for me, when they are well made and have a good story, never get boring, even with +200 hours. And just like you said, there is a ton of new and interesting games.
