A simple song, done so beautifully that it pulls you into the tragic story of mankind's lust for power and dominance juxtaposed with the simple life of a country boy who does not get the chance to grow old. Rust Never Sleeps was a Neil & Crazy Horse classic, kept alive by these brilliant musicians. Thank you Cowboy Junkies and Latent Recordings!

Masterpiece. This slower version of the Song underlines the seriousness and the sadness of the lyrics. And the Violin… the Violin…just incredible.

Met her outside of Belly Up in Aspen many years ago and had a nice conversation with her. She was by herself and we just stood and talked for a while. Uncommonly nice, engaging, genuine, and interested in just meeting and talking with someone new. I've been listening to her voice since the band first made a cassette tape for distribution. Too many great songs to pick just one favorite.

Never heard a cover of a Neil Young song better than the original, but this blows me away, better on every level, the slow pace suits the song better and enhances the sadness, the violin is a masterstroke and a vocal to die for.

Idk - when it says "and I saw black, & my face flashed in the sky", I think Neil brings that to life a bit better. And I think that might just be how it really looks, when a person dies a tragic violent death. But we'll never know for sure till its our turn, will we? Still, I think our men can speak of such deaths with more certainty than most women...we send so many of them to the slaughter, after all.

Neil Young has built a remarkable career by capturing startling moments of Raw Human Emotion and setting them to haunting melodies, which become forever etched in your memory.. Occasionally artists have made his songs their own by adding even greater depth to an already powerful statement.. This interpretation of a young life lost, in an Instant of fear and confusion, really brings home that feeling of unbearable Grief, and Pain, that can never be resolved, or ever understood well enough to be forgotten.. This is a masterful performance of a brilliantly crafted soundtrack... Lary

Of all the different versions of this song, that have been put out by Various Other Artists, it's This interpretation that Really captures the Ultimate Emotion of the song.. As you step into the Moment, those feelings of Angst, Fear, Confusion, and Disorientation become Cemented in your mind, and there is No Escape.. You can actually feel this Young Man's Finger on the Trigger, with No One Else to guide him other than the distant words of his Daddy.. Although you already know what's about to happen, you're somehow Still sitting on the Edge of your Seat, hoping, Against All Odds, that the Inevitable can Somehow be Avoided.. The final step is the Agony of the Moment, and of the Future, for the life that has been Lost, and the Grief of those who will Never fully understand What has happened.. This interpretation provides even more Clarity, and as many Chills, as Neil Young himself gave us with the Original song.. It's a Stunning piece of work... Lary

Just so fucking good! I keep coming back to listen again and again. Rarely do I consider a cover version better than the original but this is an exception. Just so fucking good! I think back to my young self and remember being 22 and feeling so much emotion as she sings and so much sadness for that kid and his family. Fuck!

Wonderful rendition of a powerful song… I get tearful listening to it and imagining the story it tells. Like many of Neil’s songs the message is especially relevant today, “shelter me from the powder and the finger. Cover me with the thought that pulled the trigger…”.

That's one of those songs where you think, it cant possibly live up to the comments. But oh my, it exceeds anything written below. If you love Neil, this is a unique homage. If you don't know this song, its simply a great find. Either way its a classic.

i read about them in a magazine around the time of Caution Horses and that was the first i heard of them. so i checked it out and it was immediately clear i had found something truly special. they became one of my favorite bands ever. between Michael's writing and Margo's singing, all their music is sublime. i had her picture on my wall for years. i only got to see them live once, but i bought and wore out everything they released for about a decade. because of them, i heard this song for the first time, i found out about Townes, and my life was forever changed. the only sad thing is they're best known for Sweet Jane, which is beautiful, but not nearly their best. that and they're not more famous for being so awesome.

I have not had events in my life even approaching something like this. I feel sorry for anyone who has. Mr. Young has done an excellent job of evoking that sorrow, I also think this band excels at that in their own way.
