Thank you Maryke. Very informative and exactly what I needed to hear right now, since my ultrasound has come back positive for bursitis. It’s 31st of December and the physio isn’t back till the 4th. Im back at work on the 9th and want to make sure I give myself the best opportunity to be able to walk by then. Wished I watched this earlier as I have aggravated my bursitis by trying to stretch the area to the point where later that day I couldn’t walk, stand or sleep without feeling extreme pain. I will try the ball massage method against the wall to help sooth the surrounding muscles. Hadn’t I of watched this video today, I’d still be trying to stretch it out 🤦♂️ Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏

I had this some years back. It started on day 4 of my holiday abroad. No idea what I did to start it off. Went to Physio when I came back and not much difference. I had the cortisone injection at the Physio after my doctor recommended him. He went in and out with the needle to cover different spots just tiny amount of cortisone used. The pain went quite quickly and it's never come back thank goodness.

I am on my fourth day of no pain pills - finally. Was able to walk outside in the snow today. I am doing mild stretches and message with my knuckles. That seems to help it all relax. Thanks for the great video which describes my problem exactly. Thanks for the information. You are an angel. God Bless.

This was so helpful, Maryke, thank you! You helped me identify the cause. Clam shells and leg lifts! I started doing them in recent weeks and it was after that when the lateral hip pain started. Another KZbin channel by two well-known PT guys actually RECOMMENDED doing stretches for this lateral hip pain! Well I've learned from past experience with those two to always question their advice and do more research since I've found some of what they say to be questionable, very general, and even a bit careless at times. Anyway, I've stopped doing the leg stretches and clam shells because you make perfect sense and I now know that this led to my problem. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. Your videos are so informative and helpful!

This video has given me the most detailed and clearly laid out picture of my hip bursitis so far. Although I have gotten, I believe, a correct diagnosis of hip bursitis by my physician, seen several physios and explored numerous videos on the subject, this video is gives me by far the most thorough and comprehensive information on my problem thus far. Now I am ‚armed‘ with enough information to review my habits to see if some are causing the pain, to avoid certain movements and postures, and can develop a game plan for my treatment. I am currently in Thailand, where I am undergoing acupuncture for various health issues. The acu doctor has included needle treatment surrounding the sore hip, not directly on it. Ive been astounded that it seems to be helping-your mention of dry needling/acupuncture as being effective for some helps me confirm that the slight improvement is due to the recent acupuncture. Still not sure if my case requires strengthening or releasing….will try out some things. Thank you

Baie, baie dankie! Bells were going off in my head as I listened to you! This video was 10 times more valuable than the appointment I just had with an NHS Physio, which left me confused and just holding a leaflet of excercises to try - some of which seemed to make the pain worse - and now I think I am begining to understand why... Oddly, not right away, but like a couple days later is when I noticed it. Following up with back-breaking lifting one weekend didn't help either. A year last February I had a nasty fall landing on my left side in work. I went to A&E as my shoulder was very painful. It was soft tissue damage. Following morning when I woke up my hip was very painful. I had physio it got better. Alas I went for a walk up hill for 30 minutes in June and had an awful pain in my hip again. I had another appointment with the physio in July but a week before that I fell down the stairs and broke my ankle on the same side. 8 weeks with my leg elevated above my heart and an operation on my ankle! My ankle is fine now but still my hip still painful. I am seeing a physio, he gave me lots of exercises, it's finally getting better. I'm a nurse and cut my hours and not doing 12.5 hours anymore as my physio said this would aggravate my hip. Thanks for all this info!

I realise "in hindsight" and confirmed by your video, that it was my 'well-intentioned' stretching (on 2 different occasions) that caused hip bursitis pain to go into absolute throbbing overdrive.. I get it now.. no more stretching until things settle down, and even then .. go easy. I also think if you stomach sleep with 1 leg 'up'.. all night long.. that could be another habit that would be contributing to this condition..

I’ve been in the Hawaiian hula dancing classes for the past 3 years. We would practice dancing once a week and sometimes we would do performances but lately I’ve noticed that my right hip is starting to feel very sore and it get worst and worst after the dancing session. I truly aware that the cause of my hip pain is from the dancing due to the nature of the dance it require lots of hip movement. I’ve done lots of stretches to loosen up my muscle and hopefully to minimize the pain but the pain will come back especially after the dance workout! I just hoping that I don’t have to quit what I love to do. 😭 I would definitely try the ball massage hopefully it will reduce the pain on my right hip.
