Hey everyone! Just wanted to say thanks to Brass Against for inviting me to join for this project. I’ve been a dedicated fan of Tool for over 20 years and also recently become a huge fan of Brass Against. Was a real pleasure and honor to work with such impressive professionals and to get the chance to channel my inner Maynard. It’s not often I can let it out a metal scream, but damn, it felt great. This meant so much to me. What an experience. 🙌🤘

In my intro to psych class, we were asked if we believed in the death penalty. The professor tasked us with writing a position paper on the subject, which caused me to undergo a personal crisis. Did I truly believe that the State's taking of a person's life could ever be justified? I wrote enough of a response to pass the class, but that question has stayed with me ever since. In fact, it stayed with me right up until the 9:38 second mark of this video, at which point the music was disrupted by a youtube ad for car insurance. I now know the answer to the question that has plagued me, and recognize that there are some things that even a lifetime in prison can't atone for. Natural justice must be pursued.

Samuel Hope’s voice felt perfect for this cover. It’s so smooth and controlled, yet his body moved along so fluidly. If his body was getting into it, that makes for an amazing emotion in the voice and I admire that. The vocals in this one are almost monotone, very chanting like, and for some people that’s as hard to maintain as high range vocals, but he nailed it. I can’t wait for another cover!

What are you going on about!? The vocals are monotone but he has amazing emotion in his voice, pretty sure those are mutually exclusive. Next time just write "i'm really deep about music"
@bumie_el6 жыл бұрын
robplant899 well that’s what I meant. Despite the original vocals being in a very chanting, mantra style in some parts, there’s still emotion. So both the original and this cover do very well in that regard.

Sam Hope, you're the man! Maynard's phrasing is so non-typical. Seriously difficult to cover. You absolutely nailed it.

Even his visual animation was on point. He's looks like the type of guy who dances to street performers as he walks past because music.

Exactly!! These People make it seem like hes lacking in comparison but not at all, his voice is incredibley close to the original. Good stuff. Both covers are masterclass projects!

I know we all love Sophia Urista, but I gotta say Sam's incredible in this. I've been a Tool fan for the past quarter of a century, and it'd take me a while to realize it's not Maynard singing. Awesome cover!

LYRICS Black then white are all I see in my infancy Red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me Lets me see As below so above and beyond, I imagine Drawn beyond the lines of reason Push the envelope, watch it bend Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must Feed my will to feel my moment, drawing way outside the lines Black then white are all I see in my infancy Red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me Lets me see There is so much more And beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities As below so above and beyond, I imagine Drawn outside the lines of reason Push the envelope, watch it bend Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind Withering my intuition leaving opportunities behind Feed my will to feel this moment Urging me to cross the line Reaching out to embrace the random Reaching out to embrace whatever may come I embrace my desire to I embrace my desire to Feel the rhythm, to feel connected Enough to step aside and weep like a widow To feel inspired To fathom the power To witness the beauty To bathe in the fountain To swing on the spiral To swing on the spiral to Swing on the spiral Of our divinity And still be a human With my feet upon the ground I lose myself Between the sounds and open wide to suck it in I feel it move across my skin I'm reaching up and reaching out I'm reaching for the random or whatever will bewilder me Whatever will bewilder me And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been Spiral out, keep going Spiral out, keep going Spiral out, keep going Spiral out, keep going
